It appears I'm going through a repeat of what happened last summer. I noticed it really picking up about 3 weeks ago and now it's bad.
Nothing has changed regarding my diet or routine so all I can surmise is that, at least for me, I have seasonal shedding and that season is summer.
I remember a lot of us had bad shedding last summer and I'm curious if anyone else has noticed an increase this summer.

Hi Jason, it may be time to double or triple your biotin intake and double up on MSM too. I am tripling my intake of biotin and doubling my intake of MSM in an effort to defeat increased shedding. I am shedding more than I like but not as much as last year.

Well I've been shedding a lot too recently. I started on the end of July...hope it stops soon!!
-Andrea
I've noticed a little more than normal lately myself, probably due to the normal summer shedding and also, possibly due to a side-effect from some medication I'm on. I'm not worrying about it, though. At least not at this point... :-)

yeah, Ive noticed it more too in the past 2 weeks or so,
Ive started using shampoo less often and keeping it tied in a segmented tail or a braid more often.
This happens to me every summer. I just took a shower last night and could have made a wig fit for a wizard with all that was lost.

Hi Jason,
It must be a hot weather thing as I get it during some summers and notice a load hairs in the plughole. I certainly wouldn'y worry about it hair is an amazing thing and does recover.
Cheers,

Hi Jason,
Of course I am sorry to hear about the re-occurance of your shedding similar to what you went through last year.
Although I haven't really noticed any different in my shed rate, since I am not that good keeping track of it anyway, I know that my hair hates the humidity (frizzy mess today), and it humidity is almost non stop this summer. In fact, I remember that last summer was humid as well, but this summer actually seems worse.

Hey Jason
This Summer seems like the "Normal amount of Summer Shedding." Always seems to start about mid July and is at its worst in mid Aug. By mid Sept. it is all over and just normal shedding as usual.
Take care-
Justin~
My shedding picks up in November and December, Summer is a relatively light shedding period for me.

If we ever get a summer in the UK, I d suffer from this problem. That said this is the third 'failure' on the run so much more limited but I don't think that this an issue to be concerned at.
Well we had Wimbledon fortnight...plenty sun!
You are quite correct we did - presumably the implication is that we should arrange for more roofs to be built over beaches and gardens!!!
(UK joke reflecting the fact that Wimbledon fortnight enjoyed unmitigated sun in the first year the new centre court roof was available.)
Yeah, much hair in the drain and much hair in the brush. Raargh!!!
I used to raise Huskys and Hybrids, they always shed their winter coats in the summer.
But I think the Duck-billed Platypus sheds in Nov. and Dec.

Hi Jason,
Sorry to hear that you are experiencing the shedding again this summer but I too have noticed a big uptick as well with my own hair.Seems that this time of year is when it happens.I try to be extra careful when combing/brushing my hair out but still there is loose hairs tangled in my brush that I have to clean out.All I can hope for is it to settle down asap.
Mark
I shed my hair on a daily basis, even during the cold, dark days of winter. In April, I had pulled out enough loose hair in one morning to form a sphere 2 inches in diameter. My shedding is random and there is not a specific season that I shed more.
Matthew
I'm also noticing a lot more shedding than I did in Spring. My guess is that it's a seasonal thing.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's reassuring that summer seems to affect quite a few in this way. Hopefully it still won't be as severe as last year for me.
hell me too! the summer sucks for my hair I always shed way more in the summer hot weather, the winter I barely shed
I don't pay much attention to my shedding, as far as keeping track of amounts. The only reason I pay any attention to it at all is knowing I'm going to end up cleaning much of it out of my shower drain and off of the roller in my vacuum cleaner.
Other than those reasons, is shedding actually a major problem for any of you, as in causing thinning or bald spots??
Hi JS,
I don't pay much attention to my shedding amounts, either; but, I think I can answer your above question...
My understanding of thinning or balding hair is that this is all a matter of one's genetics combined with one's age, --- whereas just normal shedding is NOT an issue connected with Male Pattern Baldness (MPB).
Bill Choisser explains the shedding process very well in his writing, "On Being A Longhair", found in the Links section. While it might be common to some degree that shedding might increase a small bit as one gradually ages (which explains why older guys have a much shorter terminal length than a younger person usually does), the shed hairs are still being replaced with new hairs at least, --- whereas a guy who has hereditary MPB will NOT see new hairs coming back in, once hair has fallen out in those parts of the scalp that are genetically prone to going bald or thinning out.
Clear as mud? (LOL) Hope that at least gives you SOMEWHAT of an answer, though!

Well, was actually curious to see if there were specific problems from the guys who've been discussing the issue.
Hi Jason,
I don't notice a whole lot of difference beween my summer and winter shedding; but, that could be because San Francisco is a weird planet to live on...
As Mark Twain once said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!" Our summer fog in this coastal town is THAT bad!! Unless we're experiencing one of our rare "heat waves" (where the wind & weather temporarily come from the hot inland valleys to the East of us), I have to wear warm layers of clothing every time I step outside, --- ESPECIALLY during July and August! By September the cold ocean current coming down from Alaska has warmed up a few tiny degrees, enough to give us at least a nice "Indian Summer" through most of October as well... I'll let you know if I do any more shedding then!
