Hi !
Yesterday, I began my year in Trondheim, Norway. The journey was long but fine. I'm now almost installed in my new appartment, which I share with 2 or 3 students. It seems that there's someone there, but I didn't see him yet. Here is the view of my campus, from the kitchen (I'm on the 6th floor of the building)
I will now have to prepare all the things needed for the year.
Bye !
Vivien
Ahhh, you lucky dog, you...
The Scandinavian countries are one of my goals to visit if/when I ever make it to Europe.
Yes, the scandinavian countries interest me a lot. Now, I live in one of them :)
Norway, nice! I'd like to visit it. I've only visited Finland. Hope you'll have a nice time!
-Andrea
Thanks Andrea !
...is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with absolutely wonderful people. Your next year should be a wonderful adventure. Good Luck and I wish you all the best with your studies.
Walter
Thank you Walter. Well, at the first sight, I found the people quite "closed", but very sympathic when you speak with them. But, it's also true that I have only spent 3 days here...
Melting with envy over here, Vivien.
Good luck with your studies! :)
H.
Thank you for your encouragement, Hegg ;)
dude I am so jealous! lol that is awesome you get to live in such a beautiful country as Norway! good luck with your studies and def do a hair update with some countryside of Norway in the background :)
I hope so, Mark !
Hi Vivien,
I'm glad that your move went well and you are settling in. It certainly looks a nice part of the world and it's one part of Norway I've not been to.
How are you coping with Norwegian or are you fellow students also from France or all over Europe.
Cheers,
John.B
Well, actually, in three days I've met more french people (also students) than norwegian people, a problem of housing for a lot of them. And there is a lot of foreign students here in Trondheim. Though, I guess I will also met some norwegian people :)
Vivien
Where are you from originally? It is my dream to become fluent in Swedish and live in Stockholm or Uppsala
Originally (and always, in fact :p) I'm from France.
For what I know, someone who is fluent in English and who have a bit of logical sense can easily learn some basis in Norwegian or in Swedish.
Yeah, I study German, so it shouldn't be a problem. I want to do my graduate work in Sweden hopefully. The money is gonna be an issue though
So glad the journey went well and that you are all set up getting ready for yor studies. Norway, such a beautiful place and the very part of ther world in thich the great composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) hailed from. Perhaps on some trip you may see his house which is a national treasure.
Take care Vivien and with all good wishes-
Justin~
Hi Justin ! Yes Grieg was Norwegian. And "Peer Gynt" is a masterpiece. I hope I can visit his house, near Bergen, during the year.
Vivien
Hi Vivien,
Looks like a very nice campus and great scenery in the background. I hope you enjoy yourself there and I'm sure it will provide many good memories.
College room mates can be interesting you'll have to tell us all about it sometime.
Have fun
Kevin
Hey Kevin !
Very nice campus, yes. Near the city and activities but yet calm.
Actually, my room mates are not arrived yet. I'm about to feel lonely :)
Vivien
Hi Vivien,
Thanks for your update on the move and I hope your stay in Trondheim is a successful one my friend. From the looks of that pic it looks like a spectacular country.Hopefully your roommates are nice guys who are longhairs too:) Might be odd living with a couple buzzcut guys.LOL.Do keep us posted on how things go with you in your studies.Cheers!
Mark
Hi Mark,
Concerning my room mates, I hope so !
Vivien
I am rather envious, Vivien. My friend also spent a year in Norway as part of his degree; he loved the place and his collection of photos certainly increased my desire to experience life up there. Funnily enough, at the university gym today I met a professor from Norway.
I hope you get the very most out of your time in Norway and of course your education (what are you studying, by the way?). Take it easy.
It seems to be a great country, yes. I'm quite impatient to see what the courses look like :) I study mechanics, by the way (machine design, materials, plans, etc, etc)
Vivien
Hi, I am sure you will enjoy this beautiful country very much. I also imagine there are much more scenic places than this giant parking lot. ;-)
Best of luck in your studies, and keep us updated on how things are going.
Matt B.
You're probably right !
Of course ;)
Also, I believe you know swedish, don't you ? Norwegian and swedish seems to be quite similar languages, so, maybe you could understand something here in Norway ?
Vivien
Hi Vivien,
Thank you for updating us, and for sharing this photo of your new place. Best of luck in your studies, and I am sure you will do well!
Take care,
David
Thanks, David ;)
Hi Vivien,
I'm pleased that your settling into your new "digs". When you wake up in the morning will you feel like an eagle looking out from it's mountain roost? This year and next will be a very important stage and life changing forward step for you on your future career path. Good luck with your studies and I hope it all goes well for you my friend.
Kind Wishes,
Duncan
Thank you for your wishes, Duncan :)
Good luck with the studies Vivien. The Scandanavian area of Europe is very beautiful so hope you get to do some sightseeing while you're there. I was a student for 1 year in Denmark 27 years ago and the experience was the best. I didn't get to travel to Norway unfortunately, but Sweden was beautiful. I recommend you visiting both if you get the chance.
Have a great year and keep us posted. Since the languages are similar I believe the correct phrase in Norwegian would be Taak for det.
"Takk for det" may be correct, yes.
Thanks ;)
Hi Vivien, it is many years since I have been to Norway, such a lovely place, I'm sure you will have lots of fun. Take it easy.
cheers Dave
Hi Dave ! Yeah, seems to be a nice place !
Very exciting Vivien! Here's to a successful year!
Bruce
Thanks for the comment, Bruce !
