This is my son Dakota that is in process of growing out his hair. Obviously he's in the awkward stage and he's trying to figure out what he wants to do about his bangs. He doesn't want to cut them, but he thinks parting his hair off to the side so that his hair won't be in his face will look, well "weird" as he put it. But he really don't care for hair in his face. Ah, the joys of the awkward stage and the hair styles of todays teen have created an amount of confusion for my son. It's been so long since I've been there I can't even remember the awkward stage, but back in those days it was the norm for young guys to part their hair to the side. Whan wet his hair is pretty long, falling well onto his shoulders. I'm so proud that he's decided to grow out his hair to the dismay of his mother. Hehehe.

I've noticed lots of guys his age and older wearing hair bands to keep the bangs out of their faces. It appears to be totally socially acceptable (read: "cool") to employ a hair band for this purpose amongst young males. By hair band, I mean one of those half-circle, horse shoe shaped devices that you place over your forehead and push back to restrain the hair.
Hmm, I have yet to see that. Maybe we're just in a corner of the world where that being cool hasn't reached yet. Wouldn't be suprised though, that's the way it was when I grew up...LOL
Daniel
Eh, I haven't seen any either, and from the attitudes of those around me those sound too "girly" to be cool.
Its a bit of a pain really, any possible way of keeping hair out of your eyes besides trimming it is considered feminine, even brushing it behind your ears. O_o
Huh, I dont ever see that. Most guys around here just tie it in a tail, and one guy I know wears a hat with it pushed behind his ears all the time. If Im inside Ill use my sunglasses as a hairband though.
Yeah, that only works though if you don't have to wear perscription glasses all the time anyway. Which in the case of both me and my son, we need to. Sunglasses holding the hair back is a pretty cool look, but when you add perscription glasses, then it just looks dorky. lol But otherwise is a good idea.

Two words Bandanas, Buffs
Right, just not sure how well that will fly during school hours though. I guess we'll find out.

That's really great he's decided to grow out, and I can understand his frustration. His hair is much curlier than mine, but I'm also not a huge fan of bangs in my face. If he can pull it off and likes it, try out bandanas. One of my friends who has semi-long hair wears bandanas all the time to keep his hair out of his face and loves them. Myself, I just can't pull off the look, so I just try my best to swing them to the side to put a "slant" to them, even though they're still on my forehead it works okay (unless there's the slightest bit of wind out haha).
I'm about 1/2" away from my full pony with my shortest.... cuts only make it take longer....
I have become a fan of the bandana. Links and youtbe videos abound from fighting bandanas to girls tying the "Rosie the Riveter" look,
Here's a start: http://www.donrearic.com/bandana1.html
Looks extremely curly, so this is my suggestion. Other than creating a secret religion that allows his to wear hats to school, he can do the following.
Product like mouse would allow for more control. He should be applying in while dry,and scrunching the hair up around his face. A part is probably going to look odd so he should actually just follow the current trend of using no parts, but actually styling the hair into a more manageable messy look.
Second thing, Is there is something called an Invisable wire head band. It's sort of just a wire with a almost zig zag look. It's blend in the hair and gives support. You can find them in womens accessory stores, but it almost imposible to detect so men wear them too.
I put in a link, but this is just an example of one type. So there are many styles out there.
Cheers
Doug
