Hello,
a couple of years ago I found this picture on the web, but I forgot to note down the name of the band. Does anyone recognize this band? Thanks in advance.
Uwe
Well it's been a while welcome back!
Thank you, John.B. - Hope you are fine and everythings's allright!
Smash Alley (Underground) not sure if the 'underground' part was part of the band name or the name of a video they put out
Yes it's part of the name and I've not heard of them for a while and wonder if they are still playing and I believe they come form somewhere in North Carolina.
Cheers,
John.B
Since you're a metal expert I can ask ya, John. :D What kind of metal do those guys play? Is it worth listening?
-Andrea
They are a southern rock/heavy metal sound. They certainly have an influence from Lynard Skynard. Give them a listen and see what you think. If you only into black/death metal it will be not be your cup of tea!
The pic of them was taken back in mid 90's so I think they look a bit different now but not managed to find any new info on them.
Cheers,
John.B
Doing some digging also and I can't find anything new either. I
wonder if they broke up. Of course they're no Eyefear.
Kevin
Now where is the vite bombs!
Nice, I like southern rock! Black metal isn't really my thing.
Thanks!
-Andrea
Andrea, they have also a Myspace-website.
Smash Alley
Thanks I've been in touch with their singer.
Cool, thanks, I'll check it out. ;)
Wow, really long and cool hair they got there.
I'm not sure what band is this.
-Andrea
Well I couldn't think what band they are but the longhair almost made me forget the question.LOL.Now why can't all guys grow hair like that as it would be a much nicer world:)

Woohoo, I had to say it. Longhaired Christians. Lol.
Some may know why I laugh, those who don't... sorry, I'm not gonna open that can of worms again.
Just check the archives for the longest post ever.
I glad to see this band! And man, they got some *ss cool hair.
Now if we could just get all the Other Christians to look like this we'd never have to worry about unfair, biased haircut policies again.
Paul
Intersting I have long hair and I am Christian
What do you all think about that? :D My heart is right with Jesus Christ. But I am nothere to start any religous arguements here :))
Oh my god!!! you are a Christian AND you have longhair!!!! Oh my god, I've never heard of that!!! It's just inconceivable!!! I'm fainting...Thud!!!
Ok, really. I think there are some Christians, a minority, who wear their hair long and get cocky when someone points out that it's Christians who started the bias attitude against longhair in the first place. That's what I think, Birdman. :-)
I've had this conversation before. I realize there are longhaired Christians. Dave Mustaine is a Christian.
Although I never liked church, I used to go. The last church I went to had several longhairs. Over a period of time the attitude changed, the longhairs got haircuts or stopped coming. This change continued until they started talking about protesting abortion clinics and crap.
My opinion, like it or not, is that the ultra-conservative right wing church is the root of the hair hating problem. If you disagree... fine, get your longhaired fellow Christians together and make a church or something. (I would actually like to see it.)
Now I have another interesting idea, instead of wasting your time trying to prove me wrong (like I know some of you are going to do) why don't you use your energy to set some of your brethren right. I bet you never even discussed hair with your preacher have you?

and thanks for the opportunity to vent this,

Hello
I am not trying to prove me right or wrong i just said who I was:)) LOL
I have known for quite some time that there are longhaired men who are Christians and it is more common then you think.
I agree with Paul that the hair-haters are more likely of the Fundamentalist extremist "Christians'. Jesus probably had short hair if he worked as a Carpenter and living in a hot climate in the middle east probably meant that he was more likely to have been short haired.
I have always been inspired by the teachings of Jesus and I liken the fundamentalists to be the "pharisees" of today. Pharisee characteristics is that they are overtly religious, think their bible version is the only correct version, pay more attention to appearances and being seen to be pious. Also they enjoy wielding power over others if you so allow them to.
Real Christians do not have to parade their faith before others and actions as opposed to appearances is what counts more. Jesus taught this. If you are spiritually minded and a Christian long hair won't be a big deal as it is only an outer adornment. What counts is progressing towards enlightenment.
And if God meant men to have short hair then our hair wouldn't grow but an inch or so would it!
And remember that just because someone is religious doesn't automatically make them spiritual. And since when has hate and intolerance been regarded as being spiritual?
Live your own life and don't worry to much about petty fundamentalist hateful pharisee "Christians" and their hair hangups. Jesus preached not to cast pearls before swine too. Lead by practical example.
I meet with an informal group of free-thinking down-to-earth non-extremist genuine Christians and we don't go to any mainstream Church just private homes where we worship in our own way. As Paul says God, not Religion (couldn't agree more)
Duncan
I'm an atheist, but I would agree with the way you compare the modern fundies with the way the Pharisees are portrayed in the Bible.
One word of caution, though. There were several different sects of Jews in Jesus' time, just as there are now. However, and it really isn't long since I stumbled upon this, all the modern branches of Judaism, i.e. orthodox, conservative and reform, all derive from ... the Pharisees. The other branches that existed in Jesus' time all died out. Not sure which other ones there were, but I know there were some called saducees, because AFAIK those are mentionned in the Bible too.
I'm not sure, but it seems that there is at least a theoretical possibility that today's Jews might get p*ss*d off if we pan the Pharisees the way the Bible does. Maybe I'm just paranoid. OTOH, even if they really were all unbearably self-righteous back then, just the way the Bible tells it, it still doesn't say much of anything about their descendants. Perhaps they would have to be paranoid as well to equate attacking Pharisees to some form of anti-semitism, but who knows?
As an avid student of history I am aware that the Judaism religion of today is a direct descendant of the Pharisees.
With the word term of anti-Semitism most people think of it as meaning anti-Jewish, however Semite merely refers to people of the middle east in general so you could say that it refers to anyone of either Jewish or Arab origin.
So the Zionists of today could be refered to quite correctly as being anti-semites as they have persecuted the Palestinian people though a land grab since 1948 and generally hate the Arabs who are an undisputedly Semite People. The Jews themselves are not strictly a race of people but a people united through the Judaism religion. There are White European Jews, Black African Jews, and even Asian Jews. Many of the Jews in Europe were descendents of Kazars who as a people converted to Judaism around the 8th century or so because they didn't want to be Christians or Muslims. They were an Eastern European people and are not genetically from the middle east. Many of their descendents later settled in Western Europe where they were victims of persecution throughout the ages and thus moved around and scattered.
If you met Jesus 2000 years ago he would probably be taken as looking like what an Arab Palestinian would do today I'm thinking.
My refering to the term Pharisee would not be offensive today as there is no current group to my knowledge calling themselves that.
Duncan
I have believed in the Palestinian cause for the last thirty years. I would have for the last 48 years, but then I would only have been three years old. Unfortunately, you can find zionists who say THAT makes me an anti-semite!
I have a close Jewish woman friend who totally sides with the Palestinians. She and her pro-Isreali mother argue on this topic apparently regularly. I've never lived or visited there; so, I try my best to stay out of that heated topic. But, thanks to her knowledgeable insights, I can't help but quietly feel that the Palestinians have more to be sympathetic towards than the Isrealis. The whole thing is just a shame, though. The ugliness of that long-standing war is almost impossible to concieve of for us living in a relatively peaceful country.
- Ken
OK. Enough already. I've held my tongue long enough.
Radical groups have had a name for those who sympathize with them in situations like this: useful idiots.
You look at the 1948 borders, and the Jews were very happy with less territory than they have now. The Arabs wouldn't have it.
If I can sympathize for anybody on the Palestinian side, however, it's the ones who want to leave and can't. The Israelis would be happy for them to leave. None of the Arab states will let them come. The Arabs use these Palestinians as pawns to fight the Israelis who they hate with a passion.
As an American person of Jewish heritage who became a Christian, I suppose I have an odd perspective on all of this.
Back in the late 90s I took the "we support Israel too much" idea and tried it on for size. I found that even though I had no desire to go to Israel, I was inextricably bound up with the blood fued simply because of my birth. There is no way that I can ever march through the street with the "free, free, Palestine" crowd, because I know that they'd just as soon slit my throat simply because of the blood in my veins.
On the other hand, the state of Israel would never grant me citizenship if I wanted it, not without renouncing my Christianity which I wouldn't do. This is contrary to the idea of setting up the state in the first place, becuase the nazis wouldnt' have spared a convert from the gas chamber.
As an American, I watch this conflict and think, "why would anybody want to go there?". I I want to move to a neighborhood where there's a good chance of getting shot, the USA has plenty of opportunities and I don't even need a passport.
I can understand how you might sympathize with the Palestinians. There seem to be a lot of people in the Bay Area who idealize this whole thing and make out Israel to be the bad guys. There are these guys that go over there, and you hear them on KPFA and all that... I call KPFA "radio Hamas". Hey y'all, get a clue. Some guy who goes over there from Berkeley and catches a faceful of shrapnel is not a hero. He's an idiot. A useful idiot.
You know, if I were God for just one day, you know what I'd do? I'd cause the African rift fault to rumble north, and open up some volcanism in that area. I'd give plenty of time for people to get away, and then I'd let loose a caldera eruption that made the whole area uninhabitable. Nobody gets to live there. Ever. Make it fall into the sea. Then the zealots on both sides will be left scratching their heads. If you can't share share the land, you can't have it.
Since God probably won't do that, the last owners should just go back. That is, IIRC, the Brittish. Brittish martial law. Best solution, IMHO.
I also forgot to add that besides using the term Pharisee in a modern context, the words Philistine and Vandal have also been passed down to mean people who are reactionary and people who damage things. The Philistines and the Vandals were originally nations of People.
Duncan
Oh yes, and the Philistines lived in the Gaza strip until they were invaded by the Jews in 600 BC. Their name also gave us the name of Palestine, or Falasteen.
Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.
From a lifelong longhair Christian. I'm a born longhair, that became a Christian. Well more of a Christ follower than a Christian but there's no since in getting that technical and explaining the difference on a longhair board.
Daniel
If I remember correctly the pharisees are the ones Jesus kicked out of the temple for money changing? The one time in the Bible where Jesus really looses his cool.
I've been comparing the modern church to them for years.
There are some exceptions but sadly, not enough. (Yet.)
This time, this debate turned out surprising civilized. We had Christians, an Atheist and a "Christ follower" (excellent term btw) discuss it without the word "ignorant" popping up once. Everybody stated their point of view without insulting other beliefs. At the risk of sounding condescending, I'm impressed.
I believe this board has evolved and we have a much better group of people now than we did in Dec. of last year.
Paul
There are always exceptions. A few years ago, when working out of town, I visited another church, and the Baptist preacher, who was profoundly bald, told me, "If I could grow hair, I'd grow it long, just like yours."
This is your brain.
This is your brain on the Deep South.
Any questions?
That article said:-
The radical Jerry Rubin says in his book, DO IT, "Young kids identify short hair with authority, discipline, unhappiness, boredom, rigidity, hatred of right, and long hair with letting go... Wherever we go, our hair tells people where we stand on Vietnam, Wallace, campus disruption, dope. We are living TV commercials for the revolution... Long hair is the beginning of our liberation from sexual oppression that underlies the whole military society."
Perhaps back then but not necessarily any more.
Where are the huge campus protests today or protests against the Iraq/Afghan war, the bailout of banks, etc?
Is being anti-war or anti-usury un-Christian? I hope not.
Jerry Rubin later became a stockbroker and supports the very capitalism he earlier condemned.
Long haired men and homosexuality?
From my observation, most gay men don't have long hair and most long haired men aren't gay.
The peace sign may have been popularised back then but how many people run around with peace signs these days, long haired or otherwise?
However, the symbol does live in a commercialised form but it's not all that popular nowadays.
Jesus may or may not have had long hair, we may never know.
If God indeed said that it's a shame for men to have long hair, then who are we to argue.
However, as a "shame" the same as a sin.
As for abortion, no positively spiritual or religious person of any kind can support that.
As for the rock culture, well there are certain rock bands which like to portray very negative, dark aspects and exert a negitive influence on their fans but not all rock bands are like that and I'm no fan of that type.
Found some great videos of Lynyrd Skynyrd on You Tube recently and hey they sure got great long hair but nothing negative or dark about their music. Gary Rossington wears a cross.
That is my attitude as well.
