I've got dandruff, and I went to the doctors about it, she just told me to try some anti-dandruff shampoo like head and shoulders. I tried that but it didn't work, so now I'm trying Neutrogena T/Gel stuff, but that doesn't seem to be working either. It doesn't fall out so much, just my scalp is itchy. Should I be shampooing more often, or less often to reduce dandruff? Also, will using condtioner affect dandruff or not? I tend to find only like a couple of hours after washing, when my hair is still damp, that my scalp is itchy and flaky lots.
Any advise?
Thanks
Could be caused by your shampoo excessively drying out your scalp, in which case you could try using a v-e-r-y m-i-l-d shampoo, and then sparingly. I'd try that first for a week or two and see what happens. Maybe shampoo every other day or so.
If that doesn't work, your dandruff could be caused by a scalp bug (fungus or bacteria), in which case you could try over-the-counter anti-dandruff shampoos, or go to a dermatologist and have 'em examine you, maybe get a prescription shampoo.
Of course, you might be seeing just a normal amount of scalp flakes and freaking out over 'em (probably not--but some people do) in which case you have nothing to really worry about.
If you happen to have a slight inclination to get athlete's foot, maybe you have some sort of predisposition to get fungus infections, and if that's the case and you indeed have a bit of scalp fungus (not uncommon, really) you might try mixing a mild shampoo with a bit of vinegar, say 75% shampoo to 25% vinegar, and try that for a week or two and see what happens. Fungus doesn't like vinegar at all (it's great for athlete's foot, btw), and just might be a quick & cheap way to solve your problem.
Good luck,
