OK I got a trim around the back and it looks far better. None of the big thick sloppy hair bulging from the back/side. The hair on the side is level, then gradually slopes to the back. My hair being below lip on the front, towards bottom of neck at back. I am going for the style of Kurt CObains in the great pic, this hair looks awesome.

For new growers I advise not to trim, only the back every 3 months to level it off. A lad at college had his levelled off all round at an early stage and it looks terrible- like a bowl cut and it was very high on the back of the head as the bangs wer eonly nose length :S then had the bottom shaved.
Do it gradually. It may take about 4 trims over 3 months. ie a year to get levelish.
Keep posted; James
Yeah that's what I've been doing. I first let all my hair grow out for about 5 months. Then I got a trim on the bottom at the back to bring it up a bit, now every 2 months I have/am going to keep trimming the bottom (and sides if necessary incase they start to get longer than the back), until its all chin length, and then I'm gonna grow from there. I love the way my hair looks right now, and I'm glad I get these trims.
