Now for something a little bit different and some added cultural and educational value to the crew at MLHB.
I found this website on the internet called Rapunzel's Delight. This picture section of it is of the more unusual and bizarre. Very old pictures of long haired males taken many years ago proves that long hair was still around in the so-called short hair eras.
One example is a picture of a 20 year old guy of Indian descent who was actually ALLOWED TO HAVE KEEP HIS LONG HAIR IN THE U.S. ARMY IN 1953! That was something totally unexpected. I always thought that being in the military haircuts were compulsory for men.
Also besides long haired people in the picture gallery there are also animals, horses and goats with super-long manes too! And a few people with super duper afros, and a women dressed in hair clothing!
Hope you guys enjoy this site. It is something special.

Cool website.
Good post thanks
Kevin
That is a coo link!
Thanks for posting it!
Wow, I'm speechless.
Thank you Duncan, I didn't think anything existed like that. I've been searching for vintage photos and hadn't had much luck. How in the world did you ever find this.
Paul
Hi Paul, glad you liked the Rapunzel website. I used to work as a research assistant at our local University and have much experience in locating hard to find information on the web and in the library where I worked for the Australian Dictionary of Biography and had to locate evidence for citations for academic work prior to publication. So don't feel too bad if you missed it. The key to finding things is to not always via using the most obvious word such as long hair pictures but phrases with connections to long hair like Rapunzel, tresses, locks etc.
These special websites can also be found through other long hair website links as well. But check out the links of the Rapunzel website itself and it will lead you on to other great hair websites. But in my opinion this is the ultimate long hair website - it trully is a shrine to the beauty of long hair.
I actually have know about it since August last year but assumed most people already knew about it. I only visit it every 3 months or so and on this most recent visit of days ago, I discovered that Allan had added on this extra section which showed photos of longhaired men from ages past - and remembered that long hair photo challenge that was posted some months back asking for early longhair picture examples. Prior to finding this out - all the picures were of long haired ladies. You can see on his website that a lot of this was only updated in early August.
I have a few other "items" of interest up my sleeve to share with the MLHB and enrich it a bit more. Books on the history of Long hair I have been collecting where I find them and will be putting some book reviews up soon.
Also a few surprise ideas for discussion which I don't think have ever been brought up on the MLHB which I am in the process of preparing to put up in the near future.
Duncan
that is badass Duncan! really enjoyed looking through the old photos and found this Irishman from the 1800s! he looks badass with his locks esp long hair in that century was very rare on a man that is awesome dude thanks for the link!
The guy in the picture was around 81 years old and apparently it is reported by a clipping that he grew nearly a yard in length inside just 22 months if that is to be believed! And the photos were taken around 1906. That would mean a growth rate of around 45 cm a year or 18 inches. Glad you like the site Mark - it is probably the ultimate web site for long hair culture and history anywhere on the web.
Duncan
...when you find gems like that !!
Too Kool...
Thanks for Sharing

Great website! The creator (apparently in Washington state) went to a lot of trouble to put that together. It gets a fair amount of traffic too according to Alexa.
Here is a circa 1845 photo that I fooled around with and coloured. Long Hair in a bun.
Not the longest hair in the world, but so charming done using the Matthew Brady techniques circa Cival War. Tin or Copper had to be coated with a solution of Silver Nitrate. (Paper had not yet been invented.)
---------------------------------------------------
Did you do this yourself Justin? If so, how is it done? Can anyone do it?
Scott
Hey Scott! :-)
No, I didn't do this photo. A few people are now reviving the art of photography and finding great fun in their luck at it. There is a small amount of Silver Nitrate that has to be dissolved in solution upon which the Tin, Copper, Pewter or even glass is brushed. But I believe so-far that a wooden camera of the 1800's has to be found to work with. Exposure guessing when the lense is uncapped is all by chance leading to many surprises along the way. Sounds like a fun hobby to take up.
All the best-
Justin~
Photography is not dead as you know Justin. Just a great shame that some people with digital cameras that been to college and got degree know best. My 35mm are wing their way to E-bay!
Cheers,
John.B
Oh........tell me about these lofty degree people John. (Know it alls they are.) For they are the great they are!!! Trouble is in many a case they are unable to make a move unless they refer to a book, apparently with ability lost to think for themselves. But........their MASTER DEGREES work so well in being great authorities, especially in being critical of others!
Peace <><
Justin~
Thanks for the link and such amazing old pictures :-)
Perhaps they should show the link to some of those school superintendents!
Cheers,
John.B
I e-mailed them and told them how much I loved their site and suggested a link to the hyperboard.
Alan wrote me back to say that he has updated the links page with mlhh.org.
He also says that he visits her about once a week or so to see what's going on. Cool.
Paul
Better yet - why not ask one of the tech guys who work behind the scenes on the Men's Long Hair Hyperboard to add the Rapunzel's Delight website to their links section so that it will always be there for newbies to find long after this thread has disappeared into the MLHB archive labyrinth?
Duncan
Thanks for the link Duncan - Good find!
There's even an answer for the occasional "How do I make my hair grow faster?" post:

How do I make my hair grow faster?
Hell, am I the only one here who can't open that link? :(
When it do it says "the page cannot be found."
Whenever I try.
