Since John Walker (the ex-longhaired American Taliban) was captured in Afghanistan I've been compared to him by friends. They're jokingly serious-eventhough I'm not crazed or a murderer. I've been compared (in looks) to everything from Jesus to Manson (the murderer), so this terrorist thing doesn't surprise me.
I'm just wondering if this is what the majority of America REALLY thinks.
Are longhaired men gonna be "hunted" by the now American Afghani War Vets who have "flashbacks" about their war days in Afghanistan with the longhaired Taliban?
I don't like to put my hair down in public because of this fear of being attacked in my own country by lunatics.
Am I taking these terrorist insults wrong?

I see where your coming from, but I think you should just chill.
From what I know most Afghan baddies are short-haired and actually have rules to stop people growing their hair long. That guy may just have been an exception.
They do, however, have a law meaning men cannot shave. Any soldiers over there will definetely not be fighting a long-haired foe. Trust me.
I hope your right about the baddies that are fighting are short hairs. Ossama Bin Laden has longhair (it's in that turban he wears). I'm not real fearful about being killed for having longhair-but if it hits the news that longhairs in America are being killed by short haired Vets.....

Sometimes, I worry about these things, too! For example, I like the "cave-man" look, but that does NOT necessarily mean that the person is "savage." Unfortunately, Marty might be right sometimes.
Yeah, you know someone somewhere is going to pick that up. It's probably less that people actually think that longhaired people support the Taliban than it is an excuse for short-haired people to pick a fight with someone, anyone who's around. If it weren't about your hair, it'd be about something else. When short-haired people commit a crime, it's not like the headhunters go out targeting short-haired people. And what about criminals in blue jeans? Oh my...
Pretty normal. I was accused of trying to look like a terrorist by my mother two weeks ago, even though I've been longhaired for much longer than it's been since John W. was captured. I've also been accused of looking like Charles Manson also, and my sister complained about me trying to look like Jesus. So, welcome to the club.

Nah, a lot of the former GI's who I've known have grown their hair out. One guy who I knew back in '92 was clean shaven when I first met him, then 18 months later, he had mid-back hair in a tail.
I wouldn't worry about it. Heck, after I got my maintenance trim, I decided to walk around with my hair loose. No one gave me any trouble.
I don't think so, but then again, some (case in point: my sister and my mother) of the Christian Fundamentalists do tend to try to verbally beat people into their stereotypes.

Well most Afghanis have short hair and long beards for religious purposes so looking like a terrorist is typical of a lash towards anything that "sheep" consider abnormal. Take it from me that alot of Vets grow their hair as soon as we get out. Well amongst the GENX age group. So if someone questions me about my support to the US because of long hair then Fuck them.(sorry for the explicitive) I am highly defensive because I am proud of what I did. Also, will people attack you for your long hair? I highly doubt it, unless the US is over run by Taliban. HAHA Wait a minute, we bombed them to Hell!
I live in the Midwest(Missouri) I have only had one comment from my Grandpa that he would buy me a haircut and that was all that was said.

Hey most Afghanis from the Taliban rule have short hair and are prohibited form growing it long. They are however required to grow their beard for religious purposes. I seriously doubt people in the States are going to hunt you down. There is always some Smart ass that thinks his shit don't stink! Hey since they are you friends tell them to shut the hell up and deal with it. Who needs enemies when you have friends like that. Frankly I don't think it is funny being compared to a traitor. But take a deep breath and keep growing!
One final note. Of all the Vets from my age group Xgen's alot of Vets grow their hair when they are out, like me.

I would set them in their place quicker than ..........
Occasionally I get some "off" looks......
I stare the "idiot" down, and they back off quickly......
Must be the self confidence and defensive abilities that I was taught during my duration of service.......
NO VET THAT I KNOW WOULD HASSLE A LONG HAIR........
