I was going to wait until the one year anniversary but decided to make a comparo at the 8 month mark since I was bored this weekend and had the time.Last December 22nd I was wondering if I indeed was at terminal length as I didn't think my hair was growing anymore so I took this pic back then to show its current length.Scott was kind enough to place a reference line at its longest point as shown in my pic.Now after taking a followup pic,in the same pose this past Saturday,I see a clear difference that it looks like my hair is getting longer:)So this first one is from December '08.
Now for the current pic!Opinions always welcome but please be kind:)
Mark
Cool, maybe you'll be able to catch up with Scott!
Sometimes I think mine is at terminal... then I realize it's a tiny bit longer.
Oh yeah, I was kind... cause I remember that pic of you with the gun! Lol
Paul
LOL!Wow, now that would be an accomplishment:)Of course that would mean Scott would have to wait up for me by stopping new hair growth.Nahhh couldn't see him doing that, even for me!LOL.
Well that's what I thought about myself as the growth is going ever so slowly. At least it seems to be growing:)
Lock N' Load Paul!LOL
Mark
i widh my culey hair is that long
nice hair
Birdman
Thanks Birdman.Well if my hair was curly I'm sure it would look much shorter. One of the advantages of straight hair I guess:)
Mark
Yeah, there definately still some growth going on there, I'm not sure if I could say the same. But since it's been over 11 years since my last...oh, how do you say it...it's that "T" word, I'm pretty confident that I am terminal. Although about a year ago I changed my hair care practices, but I suspect that it will be some time before I can measure the fruit of my labor as newer healthier hair grows and the older less healthy hair sheds. (but I can see that my ends are already alot better than they were a year ago) I do hope that I am able to jumpstart my growth again to achive classic length even though I do tend to hide alot of length.
Anywho, great update and keep up the great work hairfarming.
Daniel
Hi Daniel, thanks for your reply.I'm coming to the conclusion that once your hair gets to a certain length it's less noticeable of new growth. What compounds the problem is if you keep checkin' eveyday.LOL.I'm sure with improved hair care on your part there is still more hair growing be it slowly like myself.Cheers my friend.
Mark
your hair is an inspiration to me
Mike
Thanks Mike as that's cool to hear. With all the other awesome hair on this board I seem like small potatoes.LOL.
Mark
Hi Mark,
No need for you to advise anyone around here to be kind, as I see nothing whatsoever about your pics to be rude about, --- your hair looks hands-down AWESOME!!!! And anyone that disagrees with me deserves to be placed in front of a firing squad and shot at dawn (verbally, at least - LOL)....
You have a TERRIFIC head of hair, Mark, as well as have achieved FANTASTIC LENGTH!!! There's only one thing that I'm pissed off about: that instead of the pics being of your hair, I wish it was MY hair that looked that great!!
Long Lox 4ever,
Ken
Ken (Urvan Cowboy)
Your hair looks great! the neat thing about this is that God has given you unique hair You can feel good about that!
Birdman
Thanks for your kind words Ken as its always a pleasure to hear from you:)It's funny that we always think someone elses hair is better than our own as we are our own worst critics I suppose.LOL.Your hair is truely fantastic and the fact that you regrew that awesome mane after the Y2K cut is really impressive.Sometimes you wonder if you cut your hair short would it grow back to its former glory. You proved that IS the case my friend:)Keep in touch!!
Mark
Awesome Mark, awesome!
Hey, you still have progress since 8 mo ago.
Not bad atall!
Bruce
Thanks Bruce for the compliment:)Hopefully if all goes well I can get that past the butt length hair!YEA!!
Mark
The hair looks great, and you're obviously still growing. Now you just gotta work on the length of your shirts... LOL
Was that shirt to long for your liking? ;)
Thanks for the thumbs up on my hair.I guess you liked my shirt? If it was too long I could have worn no shirt:)Good thing the pic doesn't show how short my shorts are I guess. He He.Cheers my friend!
Mark
I take it you don't like shits. LOL
I am that way in hot weather. ;-)
That was supposed to say shirts. LOL
I do like shirts but they have to appeal to me.In the warmer weather I like wearing the kind of shirts you see in this post.A little revealing but what the heck.LOL.They also got to be form fitting as well even in the winter:)
Mark
It would make my day if they would outlaw shirts during warmer weather, basicly anything above 75. But oh well, still having trouble with some establishments accepting a shirtless man when the temps are 100+. Wierd world we live in.
Daniel
Hi Daniel.Well short of being at the beach shirtless it would be nice if it was as accepted in other settings as well.I suppose if you work in an office building you wouldn't go shirtless but then again there is A/C in there. However outdoors should be a different story.
Mark
I don't like to shirts in hot weather either. I normally go without in the summer when doing yard work at home and such. Else I would probably pass out from the heat. LOL
Wow, your hair is really long and straight now! It's good it still grows, keep it up until your terminal lenght allows it!
-Andrea
Hi Andrea.I have to admit this is the longest my hair has ever been and hopefully there is much more to come.Guess you can tell I like that really longgggggggg hair my friend:)Cheers
Mark
Hair looks great Mark! I wonder how long mine would get if I never trimmed it?
Only one way to find out.
Daniel
You know, around a year and a half ago after my last trim I decided that would be the last for the forseeable future.Since my hair appears to be still growing, however slowly, there certainly is no need to trim it.Thanks for the kind words my friend:)
Mark
Looking just wonderful Mark!
Always nice to see a little new growth even after being an "established" longhair for years.
- Oren
Hi Oren, great to here from you and thanks for your comment.I'm proud of the years I've remained a longhair which at this time is more than half my life:)Not too many guys can say that so I feel privileged to have done so.Also I see many more longhaired years in my future too!Cheers my friend.
Mark
Hi Mark,
What a great head of hair you are blessed with, and how cool to know that it is still growing longer! It goes to show that one must never give up hope of gaining a few more inches.
I have sometimes thought the same about mine at times, since it grows very slowly, but when I look at pictures from a few months ago, I can see that it is still growing. Hopefully, I can achieve a few more inches in my case too.
Take care,
David
Hi David, awesome to hear from you my friend:)I'm grateful that my hair appears to be still getting longer even though the pace seems slow.Maybe I need a better fertilizer!LOL.I agree that both you and I are still achieving more length in spite of what we think about it.That's why I saved that December '08 pic and did a similar new one just for absolute proof.I'll do a one year one this December just to satisfy my curiosity of what a years growth looks like on me.Take care David and we need to meet up again on your next trip south:)
Mark
I know the theory of terminal length, but I'm not 100% convinced. On one site someone had published a formula for calculating terminal length. I can't remember the exact formula, but the point is, my hair was already longer than that, and it's still growing!
ETA: I for got to add that it's not quite as long as yours, but very, very close.
The idea of terminal length always made me wonder as I thought years ago that hair just grew indefinately.I think that once it gets really long seeing more growth is harder.Regardless I want more hair!!!!LOL.That's cool that your hair is as long as mine since I enjoy the company.Cheers my friend.
Mark
Hi Mark,
Congrats, there's definitely a growth increase there. Your patience was rewarded. I'm trying to also exercise patience and see what length I can achieve. I think as our hair reaches greater lengths, we have to be content with small gains.
Thanks for sharing the interesting comparison photos.
Jason
Hey Jason, thanks as always for your nice comments. At this point in my journey the progress may be slow but the main thing as there still IS progress. This is one journey I hope never ends:)Your hair is a true inspiration for me as the density is breathtaking.Be well my good friend:)
Mark
Hi Mark,
I hope all is well with you my friend and thanks for sharing the update with is. I certainly don't think you are at terminal and perhaps over time it doesn't as grow so much. But the proof is in the pictures and you certainly have not reached terminal length. As we know all experience a different journey and I know it takes along time to grow but the results speak for themselves.
There have been times I've wondered if mine has stopped growing but little by little it gets a bit longer.
Well done and a great inspiration mane you have and of course keep it growing. We know that Danny Cecati is lucky lol!
Take care my friend,
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks John for your post.Your hair is tremendous in its own right and I have to say I admire it very much.Someday both of us will give Danny a run for his money:)Look out Danny.... John and I are gonna catch ya!!He He
Mark
Well Mark I'll tell ya if your at terminal then you've done pretty well. I think you may have a bit longer to go though.
Hope all is well with you my friend and take care.
Kevin
Thanks Kevin.... I mean Mr.President!!Gotta show the proper respect you know:)I have to tell you I refuse to concede my journey is over.Come hell or high water I will have hair like Scott's!OK now back to your regular programming...........
Take care Kevin and don't work too hard my friend.
Mark
Great going Mark and I would wager a bet that there may possibly yet be another (at least) 4" to go before too much thinning.

Justin~
Hi Justin. That's quite a wager there as 4 more inches would be very cool. However if more is in the works...hey all the better!Anyway just in case I'll keep that Gold Eagle on standby my friend:)Hope all is well with you too.Keep in touch.
Mark
Judging by your photo, I believe you are getting very close to being terminal, so at this point, going for terminal is inevitable. Anyway, your hair looks nice. My new user name is going to be Britnor Longhair.
Matthew
Hi Matthew.Whether or not I'm near terminal length I can't complain about how long my hair has gotten.More would be icing on the cake so we'll see as I will do a one year followup to this in December.Interesting new user name as I'm sure it has an interesting meaning to you.Cheers
Mark
Hey Matt, I don't mean to be rude, but do you think sometime soon you could pick a user name and stick with it? It gets a bit confusing at times.
Jim, aka JSFrodo (which I've been using online since the early 90's)
Close to terminal but still growing, congratz!
Thanks Vincent for your post.I may be nearing terminal but the journey to date has been great:)Cheers my friend.
Mark
---------------------------------------------------
and here is the photo comparison. From what I see, you have gained 1 1/2 to 2 inches of length. I did a mirror image comparison so the before and after are as closely side by side as possible. (Your current image is reversed.) For greater length you may want to try MSM and biotin if you don't take them already. I am definitely looking forward to meeting you in October. (If it isn't raining, there is the Woodstock 40th Anniversary in SF on Oct 25th in Golden Gate Park.)
Scott
Hi Scott. Thanks so much for making that back to back photo comparison as it clearly shows the additional length.I guess 1 1/2 to 2 inches might not sound like a whole lot after 8 months but I see it as my hair is still growing:)Currently I am taking Biotin since around the last 4 to 6 months. Can't exactly remember when I started taking it.I'll keep using it as long as I know I'm still growing hair.Would taking MSM also be worth doing or do you think I just stick with the Biotin.Definately looking forward to seeing you this October so we'll get together one way or another my friend:)
Mark
-----------------------------------------------------
MSM is a sulfur source which makes it good for hair. It ia slso good for your joints and connective tissue. I have a connective tissue disorder (Ehlers Danlos syndrome type 3). My degree of severity is maybe a 3 on a 10 scale, so I have to be careful to avoid torn muscles and ligaments.
Give MSM a try, Mark. It will help your knees and other joints as well as helping your hair to grow longer.
Scott
-------------------------------------------------
Hi Scott, thanks for the info. The MSM sounds like it may be similar to another supplement that I have been taking for years. It is a joint health supplement called CosaminDS.It contains 500 mg Glucosamine and 400 mg Chondroitin Sulfate per capsule.I think it has helped my joints over the years but never thought it helped hair as it doesn't mention that on the label. The Biotin is a much more recent addition for me as I mentioned. Thanks again Scott for you suggestions on these supplements.
Mark
-----------------------------------------------------
There are also capsules with all 3 of these together. It seems that your routine is working well for you. When it comes to joint health, you have one thing in your favour. Despite being 6'3" tall, you are small and light. You probably weigh no more than 155 pounds. From what I see, you are at a healthy weight. Forget the height/weight charts. They don't take into account torso/leg length ratio. (I am planning to write a spreadsheet to take this into account, and hopefully, have it accepted by the scientific/medical community.)
Some supplements can cause increased shedding. (I have cut back my intake of vitamin A to <10,000 IU per day and DHEA 25mg to Mo. We. Fr. only) DHEA helps muscle tone for us older folks but too much causes increased shedding.
Scott
-------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Scott for providing your insight on the supplements.Years ago I had knee problems due to the fact that my work is somewhat physical and that I also go to the gym.I was supposed to have knee surgery but decided to try the supplement route first and it did make a difference as I avoided a surgery.Like you stated me being small and light is a plus. Not much weight to haul around as you are correct on that 155 pounds.Usually I fluctuate between 150 and 155.Being 6' 3" I do appear very thin though. Not sure if that's an ideal weight for my height but I do feel very nimble that way.
Mark
I believe that your on the home run now Mark, and there's still a bit of length to go in the old hair yet. Your growth is definately slowing down, however Absalom's advice to take some Biotin may help lengthen your anagen growing time.
Anyhow a big warm congratulations in reaching this far.
Duncan
Hi Duncan, thanks for your input.Yes this old mane has been around awhile and adding to it would be like getting additional interest on the investment.LOL.Hopefully my taking of Biotin will keep the growin' goin'.Hope all is well with you in your part of the world my friend.Cheers
Mark
Hey Markie-babes, hell yeah!!! It is still growing at a good rate of knots by the look of those two images. Thats an awesome length you there - I don't like that word (awesome) but in this case it is LOL!!! Looking fantastic my friend - thanks for a cool post.
cheers buddy, Dave
Hey Davieeeee,
Thanks for you ever so kind comments.I'd say we both are in that awesome category in regards to our hair even though I don't like critiquing myself.LOL.I do thank you just the same for saying so my friend:)CHEERS!!!!!!
Mark
