The LHC (Long Hair Community) are having a meet at the Maryland Renaissance Festival (near Annapolis) and it looks like taking place on September 12th (a Saturday). Apparently the theme of that weekend is 'Rapiers and Roses'. There is a $4 coupon off admission for the first three weeks, and I'm told that falls in the third week.
Any MLHH members are welcome to attend. There's no time/place to meet yet, and that info won't posted online, so please contact me if you want to go.
ChrisG, can we count on you to attend? Caroline (cscheck) and Indigo Girl will be there, plus some other long-haired ladies that I haven't met in RL yet.
JSFrodo, how about you? you've never been to an LHC meet.
OTOH, it doesn't look like Elizabeth will fly in from the left coast this time, but you never know. She never brings her husband BillD, though. I still live in hope of meeting him one day.
One or both of my long-haired offspring might come, although I doubt if my wife will come, as she doesn't like walking around very much with her leg, especially on rough ground. I keep trying to get her to come to meets, as I don't think any online longhairs have ever met her, and she does have longhair.
This kind of reminds me of my wife's pagan group, where one of the guys never brought his wife, and people started calling her 'imaginary wife' behind his back. She was agraphobic, and a couple of people eventually met her, but they had to go over to their place, as she never stepped outside.
Hi there,
Thanks for letting us know about the evening and I'm sure it will be a great meetup. I've never been to a Ren Faire before and I've been told how great they are and I know Kevin.C has been to a few of them. We don't have things like that over in the UK.
It's a bit short notice for me this year and it certainly something that I would like to attend in the future. I've already booked to come to the USA in October so I'm going to miss the gathering this year.
I hope you all have a great time.
Cheers,
John.B
What part of the US are you visiting John?
So Walter have you got your suitcase out then?
(grin)
Yup !!
You, John and myself will bring the entire country to its knees in sarcastic glee...
Isn't the UK like a Ren Faire all the time?
That was said in jest, of course, but a lot of Americans who have never been there think the UK is still like it was at the time of the revolution and when all those awful books we had to read in English class were written. Then they go over there and are surprised to see freeways and cars.
Also, a lot of Americans don't know where "The United Kingdom" is. As a kid we learned the name of "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" as being shortened to "Great Britain". Hey, here it's "The British are coming!" not "The United Kings are coming!" In one survey they asked Americans where the United Kingdom was, and the most popular response was "Arabia".
Bill
I think I read that as well and does make you wonder as these are tomorrows leaders, well some of them.
Before new immigration rules at one time only 16 percent of Americans held passports whereas in Europe 50 to 70 percent hold passports and a European does not need a passport to go from one EU country to another. For those who didn't know that.
People should travel to other countries to broaden their perspective. One of the reasons Americans are often looked upon with disdain throughout the world is that so many are ignorant of other cultures in other countries, many don't even know where other countries are.
For those who say "I can't afford it" Bull crap! If you can take your family to Disney World you can take them overseas. Knowing what a tourist trap the Magic Kingdom is I would think the United Kingdom would be a better value for money........If you can find it on the map that is.
Kevin
Well said Kevin. They normally have to wait to go on speedy bus trips (down mobile way) or wait until they have retired! We enjoy our freedom across the EU and nice we can travel freely as you know. So let forget the old days and start saving and get you senator to sign the application form for a passport.
Do remember when travelling with family we won't be upset if you are busy or have to take a speedy bus trip around the UK in weeks we will still be here :-) As Kevin knows if you know the locals and have time to spare! we will entertain and make your trip fun!
Cheers,
The English tourist board!!!
I completely agree. In Europe it's easy to travel around.
But what I think is kinda stupid is that flying from Frankfurt to Leipzig can cost about 200-500. When my father flew to Ireland 'cause of his work he paid about 60-100.
For me - visiting England, Scotland or Ireland would be very interesting.
I think GB would be nice place for MLHH meeting, too. And it would be easier for those who come from Europe. 'Cause flying to GB isn't that expensive as far as I know.
Greetings from Germany,
Jack.
Well we don't live on the moon or the planet of cream cheese anymore!
Cheers,
John.B
You do know, I hope, that I was making a jab at my own countrymen, not yours!
Bill
It runs for a while, and will still be on until the last weekend in October (weekends only), so you could still go even if those particular people wouldn't be visiting it on the day you were there. BTW, it's more of a daytime thing.
Of course, America is a big place. Annapolis is off US301 in Maryland. That's sort of like an A-road that runs up and down the Eastern US between Wilmington, Delaware and Tampa, Florida, criss-crossing with US1 and I-95 along the way (I-95 being more like a motorway). The RennFest is actually in Crownsville, but Annapolis is easier to find on a map (state capital).
You know, John, if you could make it to the Md RennFest one weekend in October, maybe I could meet you there that day. I can't promise anything, but if I had enough notice I should be able to.
Damn, I'd love to come but I live in Italy and that place is really far from me. Too bad!
I wish one day you'll organize a meeting near here. :D
-Andrea
how about a meeting at Buffalo MY LOL
Birdman
Not sure what I'll be doing that weekend. I do live in Annapolis though so it's about a 10 minute drive for me. I should be able to make it there, just I don't know if I'm going to have any other plans already. It's a possibility.
You're more than welcome if you can make it. I'll contact you later with info on where and when to meet.
It's at least a possibility, will have to double-check my calendar, and see how it fits in my budget. Got my son and his fiancee living with us at the moment, so cash is a little snug. Do you have any info on ticket prices and such?
LOL, we've gone thru the same thing with the folks my wife plays cards with at the charity games she runs. I'm not a poker fan, so I never go to the games, and several of them used to joke with her about her "phantom husband".
Their website is at:-
http://rennfest.com/
I'm sure there's ticket info there somewhere, and a $4 coupon to print out.
Or I could make the link clickable, LOl!
Maryland RennFest
Yep, shortly after I posted I smacked myself in the forehead for being a dummy, and put "Maryland Renaissance Fair" into Google and lo and behold, there it was. Thanks for the link :)
Turns out I won't be able to make it. The head of the College of Heralds for my kingdom (SCA-wise) has asked me to serve as court herald for the new King and Queen of Atlantia at an event that weekend, and I've been wanting to do a royal court for some time. Wish me luck that I don't get tongue-tied at the wrong moment!!!
