I'll just make this short, I think i would be at about 6 month's of growth. My girlfriend told me I needed a trim a while ago, so I blindly got one. It's been about 2 month's since then. Anyway, goal is mid-back.
Peace!
Skyfather
Well you coould read Justin's comments below on trims or perhaps just let it grow!
Cheers,
John.B
PS...so trimmers I bet your loving this!
I did read it, and well, No more trims for me!! I just want to let it grow! If my girlfriend can't live with it, oh well, maybe I got to find one that can let me be myself and true to my heritage.

I'll give a little more about me, just because. :) I'm growing my hair out because I've started learning the ways of the Apache Indians which is on my fathers side of the family. While I don't look too Indian, I've always been interested in the way they live, their teachings, etc.
Skyfather is a Navajo word meaning well, the father of the sky. They believe there is Skyfather who controls and brings things like rain, thunderstorms, etc and then Earth mother who brings us all the earth has to offer, such as the food that grows in the ground.
I look forward to hanging out around here and getting to know more of you all.

Interesting, mid-back is a good goal. I wish you good luck.
And how it was already mentioned, trims aren't necessary when you let your hair grow out. You may look at the section "links" - there's a good site from "Bill".
To the heritage: I can understand that, I'm strongly connected to my germanic heritage - wich may be an influelence for me too to let my hair grow.
About your gf: Well, my grandpa always told me:"Never change yourself for someone else, YOU are the only person worth changing yourself."
(For me doing something about my hair would be changing myself, 'cause I'm like "emotional connected" to it - wich most people may understand here)
Keep it growing & Greetings from Germany,
Jack.
I forgot to say in my post to everyone, that thanks for the link, I'll look into those. Thanks again!

I get exactly where your coming from. I've got Cherokee in me on my fathers side (which was hidden for a few gereations for survival purposes, it was illegal for First Nations peoples to live in my home state of Missouri during the late 1800's early 1900's) However, I'm one of those 'born longhairs' that somehow desired and/or naturally did live out some of the ways of my ancesters even before I stumbled upon the truth of my heritage. It's been quite a jorney for me to discover how certain beliefs that I have are linked to my heritage of generations past. Which helped me alot because I just couldn't get the culture in which I was raised. I usually don't look too Native myself except mid to late summer if I'm able to be out in the sun alot, but I have been accused of being a full blood on occation...lol But usually I'm just as white skined as anybody else. I often describe myself as a Cherokee trapped in a white man's body.
Welcome to the board, I look forward to reading future posts from you.

Greetings ! I am glad you have "unlurked" and joined us. Thanks for the introduction especially the explanation of your screen name.
Your hair has a heavy texture (Native American roots?) and will look great with length....your awkward stage likely will not be too bad.
I look forward to following your progress...Thanks for Sharing.

Hi Skyfeather,
Welcome to the hyperboard, and I am glad that you took the plunge, and joined our community. You have a great head of hair to work with, thick and straight, and it should be a breeze to grow it a lot longer.
Welcome aboard,
David
Hi!
Tis always so nice when someone new arrives on the board and no longer hides-out and lurches. Welcome! :-)
As for the trims, if YOU really want long hair, no gf snaps her fingers and the person blindly jumps through a hoop to appease her just because SHE says its time for a haircut. That is, unless YOU YOURSELF desire to be part of a Barnum and Bailey circus act to obey on command whenever a finger is snapped.
Suggestion: How about hiding-out from the Barbershop or Salon and having a mind of your own. This would make for the happiest of all. That is, "if" you REALLY want to be a longhair.
Thanx 4 sharing the pic and again welcome! :-)
I figure so it doesn't get too messy, I'll just type one message out to reply to everyone.
Justin; Note that I said if she starts pressing me again for one, I'll most likely just dump her. I'm already thinking about it (She tends to be a bit controlling, I've talked to her about it but she seems uninterested) So I don't believe she'll be around much longer. Kinda sad, because I like everything about her but that. Maybe the next one :) Thanks for the welcome!!
DavidN; Thank you for the welcome too! I'm hoping to learn about how to better care for my hair here too. I've always had it short and have a faint idea of how to care for my hair, but I still have a lot to learn. Like what a split end looks like! lol!
Walter White Tail; I don't really think of my hair as having a heavy texture, maybe more the medium side of heavy. If that makes any sense! But it could be my native roots showing up, I don't know much at this point. Sadly, my grandmother passed away a while ago, she would have been able to tell me a lot of at least who in my family was the Indian, so I could trace it back. Now I'm kind of on my own with that. Thanks too for the welcome!!
"Jack" Wolf; From my understanding, and I think a lot of you are going to find it wrong, but my understanding is that trims are needed when growing hair out to keep up on split ends. That's what my gf is always telling me. I've since thought twice about that, as it would seem difficult to get any real length with getting trims every four to six weeks.
As for the heritage, not only do I have the Apache, but I also have Scottish too. And last time I went to a Scottish/Irish fair, 98% of the guys had long hair! So maybe I have to forces playing with me to grow my hair out. I'm the only one in my pack of brothers that want to grow our hair out. One brother likes it close cut so he doesn't have to do any work, and the other doesn't even know what he wants/likes, still. lol!
In the end, like what I said to Justin above, I have no plans of changing for anyone. I'm looking into going to medical field in my career, and I'm hoping I won't have a issue with having long hair there. I could say it's for my heritage but since I don't really look Indian, I don't know if they would make me prove it, etc. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Thanks for the welcome again everyone!!
Nice shot! Welcome to the board!
How did your hair look before the trim? Remember to stay away from the scissors now if you want to archieve a lot of lenght and don't listen to girlfriend's trim ideas. :D
-Andrea
I just so happen to have a picture that was taken right before the trim. I've attached it, I don't think there is much difference between the two pictures though. This one was taken in late May I believe, and the other one was taken yesterday.
Thanks for the welcome!
Skyfather
Nice, I think you didn't need that trim after all, you would have gain a lot more lenght from May to September.
Oh well! Enjoy the hair growth journey!
-Andrea
Looking back, I don't think I needed it either. But oh well, all I can do is move on and stay away from anything that cuts. lol!!
I'm already enjoying it. My hair is just starting to brush on the back of my neck and I'm loving it!! Even when it falls in my face, I love it! I can't wait until it's longer even. One plus I've found is that I wear contact lenses, and when I had short hair, I was always getting hair in my eyes, like just a strand of it. Now, I haven't had one in my eyes in a long time!
Just another reason for guys wearing contacts to grow their hair long!!
Welcome Skyfather!
It looks like you girlfriend took it easy on the trim...good! Now hide those damn scissors from her and don't let her talk you into any "neatening up" stuff. Not needed.
Your hair will look awesome long.
I think my hair was the same color once, now more gray. Oh well.
Again, welcome!
Bruce
The trim was a mistake but throw away the scissors and it will look good.
I wish ypu well on your long hair journey but remember
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the scissors, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whose hair may be devour;

That is a great paraphrase of Scripture Birdman. That's great.
