hello. i've been re-growing my hair for 8 months now and i was wondering how often i should shampoo and when i should start using conditioner. before i shaved my head i was too embarrassed to ask anyone for advice. also, i've been using mousse and spray alot to help deal with the awkward stage but i heard that can damage your hair. is that true? any help would be great. thanks.
You shouldn't worry about it too much. You're only at 8 months. Just watch as much as your hair needs it. Probably shampoo every 2 days an water wash in between?
Don't worry about the mousse and spray either. It's helping you get through the awkward stage. Soon you won't need it in a couple of months.

Start using conditioner on a regular basis asap, preferably yesturday. As far as shampoo, your milage may very. I only shampoo about once every two weeks with no problem at all. (but condition at every shower) Others will say every other day or twice a week. To find out what's right for you you will need to do the ole trial and error thing. Experiment with shampooing frequency to find out what is best with your hair. The mousse shouldn't be a problem, but rather a help, however the spray may cause damage. It really depends on what is in the said mousse and/or spray.

Keep in mind that the purpose of shampoo is to get the oil and gunk OUT of your hair. The purpose of conditioner is to add oil/moisture back IN to your hair.
If you add gell and mouse and such - like probably most of us do during the akward stage - you'll want to regularly clean that out. Since the shampoo also strips out the oil your hair needs to be healthy, you'll want to add that back in.
As others say - experiment a bit and find out what sort of combination works best for you keeping in mind that things will change as your hair grows out and depending on conditions. I usually only wash my hair a couple of times a week right now, but will do it more often if I've been out working in the yard and sweating.
Good luck on your journey.
