I'm 73 years old and just slightly eccentric. While waiting all these years for my hair to turn gray, it began to bald instead. Like my father before me I am beginning to recede in the front, and my old parted hair style no longer works for me.
I'm beginning to grow my hair long and comb it back into a pony tail, but all the years of parting my hair from the side makes it difficult to comb back.
Question: How do I train my hair to comb back and lay down naturally. Right now I give the appearance of sticking my finger in a light socket. Any positive advice will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I'm not up on all the hair-care products and procedures for men...a little shampoo from time to time and forget about it.
Just keep at it - it will take a couple of months for your hair to get used to it's new direction and even then it will rebel from time to time. When I started growing my hair out 3 years ago, I changed to combing back from a side part and it took quite a while for it to get used to it. I used a lot of gel and mousse since it wasn't long enough to tie back.

Thanks for the advice, Andrew. I was wondering just how long I would have to train to the new hair style, and you gave me a good ball park figure. Now I'm not so apt to become discouraged, knowing now that it's not an overnight procedure.

You might find that it's easier if you comb it into its new style while still wet. It will take a while for it (and you) to get used to it, but eventually, it will behave.
