.. I can't grow ANY!..
I'm 18 years old, and I literally can't grow facial hair, and it drives me insane.. haha. I REALLY want sideburns or a goatee or something, but it's still no possible.
I have a little puny mustache that grows so slowly, that it's not even noticeable after a month of letting it go, and even if I do let it go, it never turns into a decent amount. But, I can't stand mustaches anyway (no offense to those who enjoy them.. :))
My dad can grow a nice full beard, and my 20 year old brother can too (he's been able to grow facial hair since he was like, 14..)
I just don't get it. All advice, suggestions, and comments are welcome.. :D
PS: I'll get an update on here soon, September is my 27th month.
Dude, relax. You're only 18.
Now if you were 35, it would be a different story.
But something to keep in mind, if you happen to be a certain ethnicity (Asian, Indian) chances are you may not grow much at all.
Otherwise, I wouldn't sweat it.
I don't think I had full beard coverage until I turned 28. And even now I have empty spots that aren't filled in yet.
Thanks for replying, ATP.
I'd honestly be happy with a choppy beard that doesn't fill in, but I can't even get that.. I can literally not shave my face ever, and there is NO noticeable growth, other than a puny little mustache. It get's annoying, 'cause I love the look of facial hair with long hair.. :P

When I was your age, I decided to grow a goatee. It took at least a month to get it to be noticeable. Due to genetic reasons - my mother has always claimed some Native American background - I have zero body hair except in the pubic region and a tiny bit under the arms and on the face. It made the goatee easy to manage until I cut it off years later. Just had to trim it with scissors every few weeks and otherwise didn't have to mess with a razor.
If for genetic reasons, you're in the same situation as me, you can forget about doing much with facial hair. I have absolute zero sideburns for instance.
The other possibility is an abnormally low testosterone level or other hormone imbalance.
Hey, thanks for your input..
I really hope I don't have some sort of imbalance, but it's always a possibility. I mean, I'm 18 years old, about 5'8" and only weigh maybe 120-125 lbs.
It does get annoying knowing that my brother could grow a beard when he was 14, and I'm 18 and still waiting on ANYTHING!.. haha.

What about other so called "secondary" characteristics like being able to put on muscle, etc.? Are other family members such as your brother slim like you? My lack of body hair (except for the head) is clearly genetic. My one year younger brother is just like me in fact.
Neither he nor I want facial hair actually, and I can skip shaving with my old electric razor for several days with no one noticing. In my case at least, what I saw in my teens stayed that way always.
Wow, I consider you to be lucky! I am 16 years old, and I have to shave every 2-3 days! ( I don't want facial hair just yet like you do, but I see what you are saying).
I wouldn't sweat it too much, I guess some people just start a little later than others. You should start soon enough though.
Don't give up and good luck,
Luke.
Hey Luke,
And I consider YOU lucky!.. If I had facial hair that grew at your rate, I'm sure that I would love it. I'd probably grow a goatee about 6 inches down or so.. :P

No worries! Facial hair growth on teens might depend...like, I started to grow facial hair since I was 16. Now I'm 17 (almost 18) and I'm trying to grow a long beard. I haven't shave in 2 months and my beard seems to grow on a good rate speed. My suggestion is just be patient and soon you might grow facial hair too. I have some friends wich are 18 but still don't grow much facial hair.

Hey Andrea,
I really hope my growth starts to kick in soon! And good luck with your beard, bro. Oh, and your hair back to black looks fantastic.

I was well into my 30s before I could grow a decent beard I had all manner of bald spots that refused to fill in. Give it time. I know what you are going through as I felt the same way at your age. Hang in there. Talk with your Dad, ask him if he had problems growing his. Your brother may have progressed faster, but maybe Dad can help shed some light. What about the men on your Mom's side of the family? You might be taking after their facial hair patterns.
Hey Charlie,
In all honesty, I'd love to even be at least patchy.. haha. All that my dad has told me is that he couldn't grow a beard until he was out of school, which is a little comforting.. :P
When it comes to my moms side of the family; I'm not sure about my grandfather's ability, but I know that my uncle can grow a nice full beard, but chooses not too.
Thanks for your input!

Hi DJ,
Myself, I could barely grow a goatee at age 18.
The beard gradually started becoming thicker in my mid 20s - the rest is history.
Give yourself some - It'll happen!

Hey Oren,
I hope all that I need is some time!.. haha. Time certainly worked for you, your beard is fantastic!
