Hey guys my name is Tim..First time poster but long time lurker and now that I am 9 months into growing, I feel like maybe I can start to contribute around here. So anyways I was wondering when do the negative comments stop? Seems all of my family is saying "cut your hair you look better with short hair".. and i'm sick of it actually.
A few times I have almost given in, but then I thought why should I let other people tell me how my own hair should be..my goal is shoulder length, will try to get some pics up soon!
Hi Tim,
That's a problem for almost every guy when he starts to grow out his hair. People are used to seeing you with short hair, and being that you're in the awkward stage, the hair can look, well, awkward. You should find that the comments start dwindling down soon as people realize that you're serious about it, and chances are that by the time you reach your shoulders, people will be used to it, and might even like it.
Hang in there, the rewards will be well worth it. A picture would be great!
Keep it growing,
Ben
People should stop telling you to get a haircut after a couple years or so;you know, after they realize your not gonna give in to peer pressure. If they don't stop telling you to get a haircut, just ignore them. People like that aren't worth wasting your time with. Hope all goes well for ya.
Hey Tim, we've all been there.
My uncle was the worst about it but I finally told him to worry about his own damn hair and shut up about mine. He give me the peace sign and never said another word about it.
I think that's the day he realized I was man enough to speak up.

Hi Tim, and welcome aboard.
I'm learning that in my 3 yrs. of growing that some folks still feel the need to spout something out about the hair. I guess there are always folks who feel the need to voice their displeasure about anything. If you want to grow out your hair (and you're not under dad & mom's roof) then stand firm and go for it! Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately, as others have noted, it will probably never go away entirely. As it gets longer, those that know you for any decent length of time may decide you're sticking with it and let it drop, but there are always some who feel justified in pointing out their own preferences. The same applies to anything one person does that doesn't fit the mainstream of the group you're dealing with. I still get the occasional nonsense from some of my siblings regarding my role-playing games and historical re-creation hobbies.
"Are you still playing those games...?"
"Are you still dressing up in funny clothes and swinging sticks at each other...??"
Just some examples of the kind of questions I get. You've got to decide what fits your life. And develop enough of a thick skin to shrug off the comments from those that can't quite accept that.
The "it" was in reference to your hair...
Sometimes I really wish we had a method for going back and editing a post....
it takes about a year for most to stop wining. but then the yelling and even in some cases the cash offers (for you to cut it)don't stop from a few for years after that.

"Seems all of my family is saying "cut your hair you look better with short hair".. and i'm sick of it actually."
This very part of your message I found somewhat indefinite. Are they asking you politely to cut it, or are they nervous, hysterical, and intolerant?
If the answer is the first one, then you're better off than many longhairs, trust THIS old fox...
