Hey guys!
Well, today was my second day back at school, Grade 11, and this is my first time not getting that dreaded "back to school" haircut. (Last haircut was August of last year).
Anyways, one of the courses I am taking is a woodshop course. So I'll be using a lot of wood(duh) and tools and machines and all that junk. Today, my woodshop teacher was showing us all the different power tools and machines, and he told me I should be extra careful when using machines, so my long hair does not get caught or anything.
So obviously I'll be careful, but I took that warning as a compliment as well. I just felt good inside because I am reaching my goal, and people are now acknowledging me as a longhair, after all these years of wanting long hair, it is finally happening! (I will wear a ponytail if required).
So, I thought I would share this with you guys, I want to contribute to this board.
Thanks for reading.
Luke.
You might want to practice with a bandanna or try a welding cap to hold your hair in place. If your budget stretches to it, you could try a Buff - http://www.buffwear.com/ I usually wear my Buff when in the workshop.

Bandana and half-tail are the best thing Ive used to keep my hair back.

What has changed that enables you to have long hair with impunity now?
You're taking a woodshop course and I'm taking a metal machining course. And I'll use tons of metal (of course), lathes, mills and welding machines, but I'm still in the awkward stage...
First of all congratulations Luke for avoiding that dreaded "Back To Skewal" scalping:)LOL.Now you can work on getting some serious length and be an envy of all the guys in class. As for the safety issue I would simply tail my hair and tuck it under a ball cap so no length is exposed to danger.I've done that for years working around machines in the real word and have never had a problem.Good luck with your studies my friend.Cheers
Mark
Thank you Mark!
Your right, now that I have the back to school haircut out of the way, I can focus completely on length and getting out of the awkward stage. I will probably wear a tail, or anything that will keep my mane safe from harm. Anyway, thanks again for your kind words.
Luke.
Luke;
Sounds like your school year is off to a good start....Congratulations and good luck in your studies.
And thank you for the safety reminder.....Long hair can be a hazard in many occupations and we need to remember safety around the home also (BBQ grills, lawnmowers, etc).
There are times that we must forget our vanity, and tie, stuff amd cover our beautiful locks.
Thanks for an important and great post.

Great story, glad you finaly got what you want.
Wear a bandana in class and there should be no problem at all.
Good news about avoiding the cut.
I'm not sure how long your hair is, but another option is to tail it and stuff it down the back of your shirt to keep it out of harm's way.
Hey I remember those days, new cloths, new shoes, new school supplies, O (and what I hated the most) that darn short haircut.
In the Woodshop definitely wear the "cool looking" eye protection glasses and tie the hair back. All the best to you Luke.

Thanks for the support Frank!
Yes I agree, the super short haircut was always the worst part of going back to school.
I felt like after every haircut I lost a part of my soul! Anyways I'll be guarding my mane with my life in this course.
I studied Mechanical Technology in the 70's and there was a number of longhairs in my class (sadly not me). The instuctor would always bring up a story, with gruelsome details, and warn them of the hazards of unrestained hair. Do be always careful.
And yes, big compliment! Congrats!

There has no temptation taken you but such as a hair cut but God is faithful who will not suffer a haircut to overtaken you but with that temptation also make a way to escape that you may not cut your long hair.
