I'm seeing these updates and kinda wondering if I'm the black sheep.
Some of you may know I'm 9 months without a haircut no trims no nothing and I'm not even close to shoulder length, just touches my neck. Some of the guys I see on here are 6 months and are close to shoulder length. Granted my hair is thick and wavy but it just seems slower than normal for me. What gives or am I close to terminal length?
Well first off i cant really see how far your hair reaches in the picture you gave, perhaps you could give a shot of your back, second off theres no way anyone with a somewhat normal hair growth rate could go from short hair to shoulder length in 6 months, 6 months would only be about 3 inches of growth. Also there is not even a slim chance that you are nearing your terminal length if your hair is thick and not to your shoulders even.
On the very top of my head, I have about 3 inches of hair starting from a horrid buzz cut at christmas time. My hair has pretty much dominated my ears from the sides. Took this one just a minute ago.
I find the back of the head hair length to be rather shaky, i think the best way to see how long your hair is is to measure your bangs, make your bangs straight (by pulling them, adding water, whatever makes it straight) and see how far you can pull them down your head and measure how many inches it reaches, since you have been growing for 9 months you should have roughly 4.5 inches.
Negatory, 2 3/4" approx. 4.5"? that would've been below my nose. Not even close to my nose when wet. Just gets all over my eyes.
Then my friend, your hair just grows slowly, and it will most likely take longer than average to get long, so i recommend you prevent yourself from obsessing over length, otherwise it will feel like it is taking forever.
My hair grows at a normal rate but i am infinitely jealous of my brother, his hair was about the same length as mine (still in awkward stage) then he got a few inches chopped off, and now 2 months later he has already caught up to me again, his hair grows ridiculously fast and he still has no intentions of growing it out now.
It may be that your hair grows on the slow side, but again thick and wavy can appear to be slower just by its nature.
And at this stage of the game the starting length will be a big variable also.
I'd say don't worry about it. Around here you won't be a black sheep unless you cut it. ;)
I'd say it's more a case of when people say they've 'started' growing their hair out. For some people, their hair is very short before they stop getting hair cuts, and for others their hairlength would be much longer before their last haircut. So, it could simply be a case of differing definitions.
I just Posted my 11 month update BUT the ast time i had a hair cut my Hair could have been considerd long by people who have had Buzz cuts before the started Growing theres
I think its a matter of how long their hair was when they started.
Some start from a buzz cut but others may have a few inches
already when they decide to start growing "long" hair. Its all
relative.
Whilst there is a common rate of growth for hair, not everyone is the same. That is nothing to worry about.
Wavy or curly hair can both appear shorter in the way that they lie but the extended length can be measured and is often the same as someone with straight hair.
Hi Mike, as one guy with wave hair too, give yourself 2 yrs. without think about time and how fast or slow your hair is growing. It will be tough to do, but it sure beats looking in the mirror wishing it would grow faster. Take it from one who knows, I did it.

If you're talking about my update, my neck is comparatively short, so my hair would touch my collar faster than someone with a long neck, say, David N.
I wouldn't worry about it much. I'm at 7 months for this go around and no where remotely close to shoulder length, even in the back. But I also started from a very very short haircut. Your hair will get there it just takes time, as I seriously doubt you're anywhere near your terminal length.
It could have also been when they really started to grow it out, they might have had it somewhat long before that too
Your hair growth is normal. Some people's hair grows quicker, but not mine. As for terminal length, that would never be anything like as short. The average person can grow at least three feet of hair - in about six years.
IIRC, I read on here that "most" people can grow waist length hair before reaching terminal. -Mike-
