Members of the board, longhairs and future longerhairs, would you be so nice to post some pictures of this kind of hairstyle? It's in the middle of the akward stage, I guess, some people might be having it right now.
I'd like to find some pictures of it, because I'm really unsatisfied with my hair and if I'll still be in 6 months or so, I'm going to trim it back to this length and re-grow it from there. A picture would be useful to show the hairdress when (and IF) i'll get the trim.
Thank you very much.

The guy in the video with the "46" jersey on has a cool style like you are talking about.
Ciao!

Thanks! But that guy's style is a bit shorter than how I thought of cutting it. If I can't find any better pic I might take the one I posted, to the hairdresser.

If I were you I'd get it cut at one even length. Unless you don't mind layers and aren't intending to go for the all at one length look.
I started from a buzz and have natural layers. I wish I would have left the top at least 3 inches long and the sides and back shaved down so that my hair could grow out more at one length. Ah well, it'll get there :)
g'luck Andrea. Remember it's your hair and do what you want to do with it. Just dont buzz it! lol
There's no way I'm going to buzz it! I look terrible in buzzcuts and I dislike them so much. I'll just wait and then decide.
-Andrea
Won't cutting it keep you permanently in the awkward stage?
What do you mean? I'd like to cut it to a style similiar to that so I can re-grow it better. Right now I'm really disappointed with it, but I won't do anything until February.
-Andrea
It is nothing to do with "so I can re-grow it better" at all. The awkward is a natural occurrence not influenced by you. Cutting it will put you back there. Have patience and it will grow through it without intervention.
Of course, that's why I'm going to wait at least 6 months before the trim. But I doubt it'll look better. There's some badly cut ends wich don't match the rest, two different looking sides, etc...

Hi Andrea,
I really don't understand why you are still un-satisfied with you hair. If you went for a style that it would be set you back months and the awkward stage would last alot longer. You hair is almost certainly of one length and a further 6 months will do it alot of justice.
As I've always said just let it grow and I did for several years and glad with that I've currently achieved and I doubt anyone would not agree with just letting it grow.
But if your hair and you just have to do what is right for you.
Cheers,
John.B
Hey John, well, I'm unsatisfied with my hair cause each side looks different and one side is badly cut. I don't mind taking a lot more time to grow it if that helps it to look better. Maybe I wouldn't need a whole new haircut but just a couple of centimeters trim on the sides wich look screwed up.
But for now I'm not doing anything AT ALL. I'll just wait at least 6 months and see. I'll also try not to obsess about it.
You can be sure of one thing: I'll never buzz it or cut it extra short. I really want to grow long hair and keep it for many years, but I want it look nice, not with screwed up sides.

Hi Andrea,
First of all, there's nothing at all wrong with having and keeping a "medium-length" hairstyle, --- if that's indeed what you find to make you happiest! As a very wise woman once said to me, "Sometimes it takes awhile to find the hairstyle that you feel looks best for you, --- as well as may take awhile to find a hair stylist who can do it for you!"
I'm a big fan of medium-length styles. They can present an almost infinite variety of different kinds of looks, as well as in some ways are "the best of BOTH worlds" (not so short as to look like the average boring male short haircut; yet not so long as to give you as many problems like w/ lots of tangles, split ends, etc.)...
I have no picture to share; but, if you're familiar w/ any of Tom Cruise's movies, he had a similar length & style in many that he starred in.
As far as trimming your hair goes... If you actually want to ultimately grow it looooooong, --- then DON'T CUT!!!!!!! That's the only and the fastest way to get truly long hair! Here are some good reasons to have it occasionally trimmed, though:
1) if you discover a lot of split, broken, or dry & brittle / damaged hair
2) If you hated the last haircut so much that looking in the mirror reminds you of a bad memory (something I did myself back when I had my last short haircut in Y2K)
3) if the last haircut was just a poor job of styling, resulting in noticeably uneven, ragged or weird-looking ends or overall ugly shaping
4) if you're genuinely miserable with your hair in general
Otherwise, just DON'T CUT (or even trim) IT, --- or, at the very least DELAY the haircut or trim as long as possible!!! And the less length that you cut off, the better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take it from me, ---- someone who's advise from first-hand experience took me to age 40 to finally get my hair long enough to get it into a ponytail!

Hey Ken, thanks a lot for the suggestions!
I'd love to grow my hair at least midback. And my reason for wanting a trim is the number 3 you mentioned. (if the last haircut was just a poor job of styling, resulting in noticeably uneven, ragged or weird-looking ends or overall ugly shaping)
People said it's not but i feel like it is. It might look good in 6 months or so, that's why i wanna wait until then and see.
For now I'll just try not to obsess with it and wait until February. If on February I'll still be disappointed I'm going to see how should I trim it to make it look better. Maybe I won't need to medium cut it (like that pic). I'd hate to lose lenght but I'd like it to look good.

Hi Andrea,
If you wait the 6 months and take just enough off to even things up a bit, I think you'll be surprised at what length your hair can be. Don't show them a picture of what you may think may work for you. A good stylist can take your instructions and run with it.
Tell her/him that you what to even it out without losing any length. They'll laugh at you but will understand that you want it accomplished with a minimum of hair on the floor.
Good luck!
Bruce
If you do decide to get a trim, make sure you pick a good stylist - ideally one who's been recommended to you by someone you trust - even if they're expensive. Tell them exactly what you want and make sure they understand before they touch the scissors. Tell them you've had a bad cut before and they'll be more understanding.
That being said, in five-six months' time, your hair will have grown about three inches and will look completely different. You never know, it may even itself out to some degree due to shedding and different hair growth rates and you might not feel like you want to cut it.
I'd suggest that the best thing to do for now is to keep it well conditioned and, if you can, tie it back and forget about it, because the more you obsess about it, the less satisfied you'll be with it.
You're so right, thanks so much for the suggestions, that's just what I needed to keep holding on. :)
I do know my hair might look cool in 5-6 months, that's why I haven't trim it yet. I might be satisfied with it. And yes, obsessing about it makes things worse but sometimes, when I'm bored, I can't help but keep looking at my hair.
But I just noticed I shed a lot, I've been shedding a lot since June...how do I know it's normal and it's not too much? And does that cause thinning or anything?
-Andrea
Shedding's a difficult one. Your pattern of shedding changes throughout the year, and you'll shed more at certain times than at others, usually early spring and late summer. You really only tend to notice it once your hair gets beyond a certain length and either stays in the brush or sticks to your clothes.
I think that often makes people panic about losing their hair when they first start growing it. They've never realised how many hairs they shed each day until they're long enough to be noticeable, if that makes sense. What you may see as excess shedding could just be your normal daily shed, which can be anything up to 150 hairs, although I think the average is about 120. If it's something you're worried about, you could maybe try collecting your shed hairs and keeping a record of your daily rate over a year just to have a yardstick to measure it by. Often what might seem excessive at first sight is just normal and nothing to worry about when you actually count them.
You can never really be sure whether or not you're going to lose your hair, but a good indicator is to look at your male relatives on both sides of the family. If they've got good coverage, chances are you'll hang on to yours for a long time. However, there are no guarantees in life. I've seen brothers, one with a full head of hair and the other who's thin on top, so you can't really predict what's going to happen with your hair. My advice is to enjoy your hair and not to worry about baldness. If it's going to happen, there's not much you can do about it and worrying about something, especially something you have no control over, just gets in the way of enjoying life.
