Hey guys!
I'd just like to thank everyone for commenting on my 5th year mark. It's a huge milestone and it makes me really happy to have made it so far. Hopefully I can still go much longer =D
I'd like to give a special thank's to JohnB for uploading my picture from my site. Thank's John ;)
Happy growing everyone! Never give up on your long hair dreams =D =D =D
^^
"Happy growing everyone! Never give up on your long hair dreams =D =D =D"
This is either philanthropy at its best or cynicism at its best, I see no third option.
Sorry, what do you mean? I'm sure you're not suggesting I'm being cynical, I don't even see why I would...
Oh well
=)
"I'm sure you're not suggesting I'm being cynical..."
Oh, but I am.
If I bragged about how I won first prize in poetry 8 times in row - which I actually did - what would you think of my character? Now, your hair is, possibly only after Absalom's, the longest one here. I recognized your posting pics and demanding our esteem for them was a showing off, and not just a mere asking for others' opinion. I can differentiate between those two well enough...
But I'm not angry, or jealous, or anything... I pity how dependent on others' flatterings and praises you are.
I don't know what you're talking about. João David has never "demanded" anything. He has great hair that is incredibly inspirational to others who are growing or maintaining theirs. We should be, and I think most here are, thrilled that he takes the time to post photos.
First of all, there are many people here with hair longer than mine. Second, everyone here shares pictures, and I always posted updated of my hair here. It's not because it is much longer now than it was before, that I think I should stop posting pictures.
After all, I always looked forward to seeing pictures of people with very long hair, and I always love seeing long haired people in real life, so I think it's good to give back to other people that have much shorter hair than mine, and show them it's possible, tough it takes time, and it's worth it.
I won't deny I love the compliments, I'm sure you like being pampered too. Be sure tough, that to me it doesn't make sense to be always demanding for the same coments, because I tell you, I have eyes on my head, and I can tell my hair looks good, I don't really need anyone to tell me that. So, the actual point of showing pictures is to show everyone here who helped me in the first years I posted here that I am achieving what I proposed myself to do.
Altough it can seem meaningfull, or just pure vanity, you will find pictures everyday, in every long hair forum. It's just a thing that we long haired people have... we do not only like to grow our hair, but we like seeing it.
I'm sorry if I offended you in any way, but I just think your comment was not necessary, let alone calling me cynical.
Oh well... we can't please everyone can we?
I like how I became a villain overnight. Well, I do have a thing for movie villains, after all...
While I won't plead for anyone's forgiveness, I will stop my further discussion with you right here. Your supporters must think I am actually burning with jealousy of you, but I am not really. I'm aware enough that my hair will never be able to reach the length and beauty of yours - and it doesn't bother me one bit! God has endowed me with wondrous talents which brought me many achievements. But I have learned something which brings me even more use than those talents - and that is my not wishing to show off. Regarded from that aspect, you may even consider I gave you a piece of advice; maybe a bit harsher than necessary, but advice nonetheless.
Or you may continue with your unctious, sentimental little posts, and indirectly keep earning the role of a "teacher" in persisting to grow hair, as inadequate as that role is to me in your case.
"I will stop my further discussion with you right here" BINGO!!!!
João did nothing more than present his update and thank all that took the time to comment, as we all have, including you, Nikola! I think your comments are unwarranted and mean spirited. Of course you have a right to your own opinions, but don't be surprised when those opinions vilify you.
Bruce
" I will stop my further discussion with you right here. "
That's the smartest move you've made yet.
Welcome to the villains club. I'll show you the secret handshake later.
Kevin
Well, begone with ya, then, and don't forget to close the door on your way out!
Hey Nicola - Chill out!
Joao is totally 100% cool and I for one never tire of seeing his wonderfully inspiring updates on MLHB which isn't often enough.
Duncan
I don't think João has even come close to abusing update postings, just the opposite. There are many others that post pictures more often.
João was only thanking those that commented on his recent update. Something that is not done often enough around here.
Bruce
you know little to nothing of this great guys past with the MLHH. (That being, you are apparently ignorant of his fine reputation and what he has done for all of us here in the many many years he has been with this board.)
Now, as might be said by one of the Grim Bros: Be gone with yuh.
I see your point.
Although Joao has been around a long time and is much appreciated here on the board we rarely only see posts when it's time for an update. So I can see your point and like you said your not angry, jealous or anything just commenting.
Point well taken and one we can all learn from if we choose to.
Kevin
Hey Kevin
I understand that I post very rarely now, and when I do it's usually to update, but all in all, I think it's just inapropriate and rude to call me cynical, and I think it's just got nothing to do with whatever interpretation could come from my recent threads. I'm also not the only one who posts pictures most of the time.
I used to be a very active member here and I knew lots of great people, some of which I still chat with regularly. I've built a site with some of the knowlege I gathered not just from here, but from a whole set of experiences I've had through the years. We all know that, altough this is a nice place, the same questions keep coming, which is so natural and great (because there are constantly people wanting to grow their hair long), but I think I shouldn't be juged for not replying all that much anymore, even because I have many people asking me things trough my mail and I always reply with very detailed info.
Also, I'm still one of the few people that reply to the coments made to the pictures posted by myself, I could simply leave it be and not even say thank's.
I don't know what more I can do, it just feels weird that I still get to be called a cynical.
If I'm really so anoying to some people (and Kevin, this is not for you), I really prefer being ignored. Everyone can see my pictures on my site anyways...
Peace everyone...
what is the name of your site, Id like to check it out.
also if its not there, what do you use for your hair (shampoo/conditioner wise, etc.), its amazing.
Hello Jarvis!
You can find the link to my site in the links section here in the board. =)
I have been using Elvive's line of products with good results, applying jojoba oil after washing. I usually wash my hair once a week.
Hope it helps =) Good growing!
Joao your not the least bit annoying and as for being called cynical that's nothing I've been called everything you can imagine over the years and some of it warranted some not but I just say oh well.
Nothing wrong with being cynical some of my best friends are cynical.
Kevin
If you posted poetry somewhere and got many compliments, good for you- people like your poetry.
If someone else does a great job with his hair and posts pictures, good for him.
This sort of cut-down-folks-who-are-doing-well behavior is common on bodybuilding boards too, I've noticed. Positive results always seem to pull out the ill will in some people.
I'm not a major figure on this board, but I've been here a while, and I can tell you Joao has always been helpful and very polite to others here. Most importantly, he has a genuine enthusiasm for the subject, and that shows in his posts.
I would urge you to not confuse success with fishing for compliments.
Some definitions for cynical:
distrusting or disparaging the motives of others
bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic
Are you thinking of the right word? Explain in what way Joao has been even remotely like that.
Have you ever even posted a photo of yourself?
Joao's post cynical?? Not by a long shot. Trust me, I've got a PhD in cynical, with a secondary major in sarcasm.
And let's see, this is a discussion board about long hair, right?? So, what do you know, he posted a set of update pics of his long hair?? BLASPHEMY, I TELL YOU!!! And I don't recall him "demanding" anything.
As for your comments, if we were on a discussion board regarding poetry, and you posted about winning a poetry contest, whether it be your your first or your 8th, I'd think you were justifiably proud of your accomplishment. There's nothing shameful about winning a contest multiple years in a row, because you never know when fresh talent will show up.
And regarding your last comment, I pity how little joy you appear to take in your own life, that you feel the need to belittle others for enjoying theirs. Get a life, get a clue, buy a vowel or something.
Not angry or jealous? I don't know about that!
Without question, it is philanthropy in the purest sense of the Greek root word. João is a fine gentleman of Portugal who has never done anything but spread his good thoughts and energy here on the board. We should actually call him Dom João.
MB
We should actually call him Dom João.
It's like saying Mr. or Sir; it doesn't have an exact English equivalent.
Isn't it like "Don" in Spanish?
My Myspace page
Dom João was a brazillian prince in the colonial period.
Well, Dom can mean many things, but it isn't used much here in Brazil to design someone as Mr. in English does.
But I agree with you. Dom João is a good name.
"SALUTE DOM JOÃO AND HIS HAIR!"
I don't see anything cynical about occasionally posting updates. Bear in mind that João David is also a student and probably doesn't have time to post on here too often due to things called studying and work.
I'm just glad to see any posts from him. I like to keep an eye on the competition! :¬) We've been growing our hair for a similar length of time - I think he started a few months before me - so I for one like to keep track of his progress.
Nikola, all Joao is saying he is wishing everyone well who chooses to grow there hair long, nothing more.
You're very welcome. And don't pay any attention to negative comments. Your hair is fantastic, and we enjoy seeing it.
I'm only an occasional poster here (borderline lurker I suppose), but I'd like to say that from my perspective, Joao is one of the friendliest, sunniest, & most encouraging members of the board. His hair (as well as his passion and care for it) is just plain inspiring. It seems to me that compliments are well-deserved, and I always enjoy his updates.
Granted, I know I will never achieve the glory that it is his head of hair, but I can certainly and definitely appreciate it! Even if he were to reach terminal length (although I'm sure that's a ways off), I'd still love to see updates.
Also - Joao's fashion & apparel choices complement his hair - and that too is worthy of update. (I'm pretty fashion-impaired myself, so it's great to see someone who can make it all work together!) So I for one can be both happy for him, as well as a bit envious ... but I always wish him the absolute best no matter!
Hey Joao! I haven't comment your previous thread but I guess I can just comment here.
Your hair look great, good condition, super lenght and so wavy. (Wich is good too, I love wavy hair). It's great to see you're happy and you reached your goal.
I don't think you're acting like Nikola said...but I didnt get it: why did you create a new thread to thank people for the comments? To avoid replying to them all one by one in the previous thread? (If so, that's a smart move, it sure saves time! XP)
Just wondering, not wanting to offend or anything.
-Andrea
Yeah, I did a new one to thank everybody =) It's been done other times here in the board.
Thank's for your comment, and I'm glad you all didn't take my update the wrong way.
I am kinda speechless righ now =S
Joao your hair is truly a work of art! That length and thickness is something all longhairs would strive to have if nature allowed it.Thanks to you for showing us your pic my friend:)Cheers
Mark
I just want to say, Joao, that your posts have always been kind, delightful, and a positive celebration of long hair, which is what this community is all about. I'm sure many here would join me in saying, "Joao, keep on making posts just as you have been, because we enjoy them!"
I'm late on this but I will join the compliments, you've been gifted with awesome hair and you're doing your best to celebrate its gloriousness!
Hello Joao,
And a BIG THANKYOU again for posting your wonderfully inspiration pictues of your great 5 year milestone anniversary.
I discovered your fantastic website back in July 2008 and your hair growth progress pictures are fully encouraging my own desire to perserve with growing LONGER hair.
I for one am never tired of seeing your all too infrequent posts and appreciate the time you take to contribute to this board if only infrequently.
Please come more often to the MLHB!
Best,
Duncan
