I havent cut it since january got about 5 inches of hair so far, posted here and there... Ive noticed depending on how oily my hair is the better e it looks.. i got curly hair. Id like to ask if this is normal amongst people with similar hair and what do you do to keep it, so far ive been able to solve it by applying some hair oil while the hair is damp.. but its hard to chieve the right amount.. it always looks best after 2 days without washing but it degrades very quickly.. i really like the curly look.. but boy right after washing because too dry, and 4 days after because too oily it looks like a crows nest.. any help is appreciated. :P
Yup, I know how you feel. :-) For about nearly two years I wore a hat almost constantly to tame the mane. Even now, right after washing my hair will be dry and crazy unless I let it dry under a hat (which removes the curl and sets it in place) or apply some kind of gunk to add oil until my natural oil gets back in (olive oil seems to work exceptionally well at this). Since you like the curly look, you might want to go with the latter approach and see where it takes you.
p.s. My time frame is similar. On the fourth day after a shampoo, my hair starts looking grungy with oil buildup, but on the day of the shampoo, it's dry and wild. So my pattern is to shampoo and then skip two days. That way I get two good hair days for every bad hair day. ;-)
That's about my routine.
Sounds familiar to me, too....
What's been working very well for me recently, though, is to apply a small amount of beneficial hair oil (Jojoba, Kukui nut, Almond oil, or even Olive oil), --- but, just to the hair ends ONLY. My hair is currently at belt-length; so, I massage the beneficial oil into the lower third or lower half of my mane, --- but especially heaviest oil application is at the ends. I do this right after I do my once-a-week thorough shampooing & conditioning, while the hair is still damp seems to help the best.
Mid-week I often feel the need to also do an "edited" briefer version of shampooing and conditioning (but only applying the shampoo just with one application and lathering near, the front & crown mostly)... In that case, i DON'T apply any oil to the ends (because the shampoo application is so much less in amount as well as quicker, that the ends don't really need it until my next weekly THOROUGH washing.
Clear as mud? (LOL) Hope something in what I just said above helps, anyway!

yes yes yes.. sadly you are describing my situation.. and the cap trick is true... I love the looks of my head after some hours under the cap.. cause it keeps all the hairs together, the wave is constant and not every hair with its own crazy wave!!! I tried the olive oil today.. on shampoo night, i rubbed about a penny's size of olive oil, maybe less.. the hair today was cool... like after one day or two... I will try this for two weeks before moving to the next method and that way.. i hope to get it right! thanks!
I know exactly how you feel. I have a similar hair type and I used to have the same issues. My hair has been a lot better since I stopped using shampoo and conditioner altogether. Instead I use baking soda and apple cider vinegar in place of each respectively. The baking soda is abrasive, so it easily removes excess oil, but leaves a healthy amount. I usually dilute it in a cup and scrub it into my scalp and roots, rinse, and then basically do the same with the vinegar. I've been doing this for almost 2 years and I still don't have the slightest desire to ever return to shampoo and conditioner... except maybe for the fact that I like the bubbles :P
And surprisingly the vinegar doesn't really make your hair smell like vinegar, unless you use too much and don't rinse sufficiently.
Anyway, I know a lot of people think this idea is somewhat far fetched, but it's worked very well for me, because shampoo is far too harsh for my hair type, and countering it with loads of conditioner just makes it stay optimal for less time before it gets too greasy again.
I hope this helps!
brazjol.. getting tips from a guy with such hair is awesome .. the idea really sounds new to me, but i will try it for two weeks and let you know on the results... i hope i do not smell like vinegar... otherwise i can always get some ranch dressing and complete the salad.. haha i really hope this will solve the deal with the crazy nest
I have a nice stock of apple cider vinegar that I was using for gnat traps, so I might give this one a go. How does it compare to conditioner in softness and manageability after air drying?
Man your hair is exactly like mine, same colour and everything, just a bit longer. I've been growing mine for about 3 months now and its probably about 1-2 inches shorter than yours. Yep I also like the wavy look but so true it is hard to manage sometimes in that 'in between' stage...spot on about 2 days after a wash is when it looks best, I can't stand the fluffy post-wash look and go for some product - I put some matt clay in there and it takes away the fluffyness without looking too greasy and sheened - you should try it and see how you go.
hey.. maybe you can post a pic of your hair.. but it seems its more than one here.. I thought i was the only one with this crazy thing over my head.. we should make a board of ourselves called the screw you hairdo... haha.. it seems wavy curly hair has that trouble..
To be truthful.. i never heard of matt clay.. but I will try it.. I will try every method you guys recommended for two weeks and keep the best fitting one.. I will post back results after.. if i dont go bald.. lol
i found this link to matt clay - http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/hair-care/alberto-vo5-extreme-style-matt-clay/1117962/
its even got a little review on it. i'm not sure if you are able to buy that brand where you are from, but you should be able to get a similar product.
i think your hair looks awesome! don't worry too much about what other people think - the length of mine is not far behind yours, and lately i've gotten to the - i don't give a s**t what they think stage, and actually started to mess it up a bit and embrace the natural waves/curls, i'm liking it!!
Wow, my hair seems to be a lot like yours, and I have the same "problem", too. It looks great after around 2 days of having washed it, but before and after looks messy...
I hope to find some good ideas on this thread!
Dude... it really does.. my hair in the photo had been brushed and it was a bit straighted.. but it looks like that after mere minutes from brushing, I see that problem in our kind of hair is common.. I really love how it looks when it looks right... if it looked like that ALL the time! lol
