We have Hughes net now so we can finally play around a little more online and actually watch videos without waiting 2 hours for it to load. God! Dial up sucks.
I added a playlist of songs that refer to longhair; "Signs" of course, and "Almost Cut My Hair", a version by Queensryche, "Longhaired Country Boy" by Charlie Daniels and "Longhaired Redneck" by David Allen Coe. Honestly, those were about the only songs I could think of with lyrics about longhair or problems that go along with having it. Oh yeah, "Uneasy rider" another by Charlie Daniels.
I had never heard of George Throughgood's "Get a Haircut and a Real Job"! That is one funny a** song, so I added it.
I also added some others I've never heard of but were all pretty cool. "Big Hair Revolution" (All he wants is, a revolution...), "Long Haired Child" which expresses my sentiments exactly about raising my boys with longhair, "My Hair Looks Fierce" which is ridiculously funny and "Long Hair Queer" about a guy who looses his girl to a longhair he wrote off as gay, haha.
Today I added a rap song. I don't like rap but my boss turned me on to this one and I have to admit it's pretty cool. Mr. Bigg's "Long Hair". The first verse; "I got long hair...".
If I'm over looking any, especially any obvious ones, I'll add them. Don't matter what genre, longhair is multi-cultural.
Thanks,
Paul
Long Haired A** Hole by Nuclear Assault, hehehe.
"Me and a buddy Joe were hanging...
Out in a bar the other night
And we got into this little argument
With some people with short hair
And they called us a bunch of long haired assholes
I thought that was kind of unfair
Well people with short hair and business suits
The caused the S&L disaster
We'll be paying for that for the rest of our lives
But I'm a long haired asshole I'm a long haired asshole
Well people with short hair and business suits
The run the CIA
They break the laws they're suppose to protect
The laws they're suppose to obey
And people with short hair and business suits
They run all organized crime
They dress real neat and smell real sweet
Well people with short hair and business suits
Are responcible for all these disaster
But that don't change the way they walk
Lord, I'm still a long haired asshole
I'm a long haired asshole"
Nuclear Assault - Long Haired A** Hole
Now that there some good cuntry singin.
How could I have missed that one? Love it!
Paul
Very cool thread Paul as it sure beats all the recent haircut posts.YUCK!LOL.Its interesting that you are doing this as we had a member, who is still listed in the users directory, who posted a longhair song each week available for download for just that week. Then the following week he'd post another. What was cool is that he gave a little history of the songs origin as an added feature. This longhairs handle is Stormy and I'm sure a few here remember him.I would download all his offerings to my ipod and would smile when they popped up on the shuffle mode.Oh ,yes I have to admit as well that George Thoughgood's "Haircut" was one friggin' funny tune:)
Mark
Hey, Stormys still here isn't he?
Paul
-------------------------------------
Haven't seen him post in a while but that's not unusual as some members do take time off from the board Paul.I hope he comes back with more hairtunes:)
Mark
Hey Paul, just went into my itunes library and found one of Stormy's song he posted. The song is by a band called "The Barbarians" and the song title is "Are you a boy or are you a girl".LOL.I just listened to it and recommend it for your list.
Mark
I've heard of it but haven't heard it yet... couldn't find it on MySpace. I'm going to look again later.
Paul
---------------------------------
Try looking for it on itunes. They might just have it there but I did not check myself.
Mark
Paul, here's another from the library called simply "Hair" by a group know as "The Cowsills".
Being the theme to the eponymous stage musical and film, of course.
Now that's one I have heard! "Hippie" music at it's best. Lol!
Paul
Paul, I dug up another tune so I'll leave it at that for now.LOL.Ready......The song title is "Long Haired Lover from Liverpool" and the group is "Jimmy Osmond & Mike Curb Congregation".Now this is fun!
Mark
Just added that one, thanks Mark.
Paul
....is all "longhair" music.
Did you know classical artist Franz Liszt (October 22, 1811 July 31, 1886) had long hair?
A while ago there was a post about a baseball team from the 1930's I believe with long hair, well, this goes back a little longer. :)
Skyfather
Wiki page for Franz Liszt
Oh yeah, another pic for the "Pre-Hippie" longhair album! Thank you.
Paul
Okay Paul, I have to know the story behind that....... LoL!! Why or what do you do with a pre-hippie long hair album?
Damn right! Too bad all the "upper class" forgot.
Paul
I don't remember the group, but a long time ago there was a song whose title I think was "signs". Some of the lyrics went:
Sign said "long-haired freaky people
Need not apply"
So I stuffed my hair up under my hat
And went in to ask him. "why?"
He said, "you look like a fine upstanding young man,
I think you'll do."
So I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that,
me working for you!"
Yep, "Signs" by 5 Man Electrical Band. Already have it, it was the first one I looked for but thanks Judy.
I consider it the "anthem" of longhaired songs.
Paul
I see you got "Signs" and Hairball mentioned the Cowsills version of the title song from the musical "Hair". I'm more familiar with the Crosby, Stills and Nash version of "Almost Cut My Hair". From the Christian standpoint, there is the late Larry Norman's classic, "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?" Here is the reference to long hair in the lyrics:
"They say to cut my hair, they're driving me insane. I grew it out long to make room for my brain."
Larry was a lifelong longhair, as well as a Christian, who passed away early this year. RIP Larry. Many bands have covered this song, which dates from the 70's Jesus Movement, it has now become a classic bluesy rock song. There are several clips on You-Tube of Larry performing, plus cover versions, Geoffe Moore being the most widely known after Larry.
Thanks Carol, just found it and added it. I didn't have any Christian longhaired songs yet.
Paul
"I grew it out long to make room for my brain" would be a good addition to your retort list, for the idiots who ask why. For the Christians, you can say that Larry Norman gave you that one.
Hey Paul, another cool thread!
I Won't Cut My Hair by D-A-D
Link to the lyrics:
I used to have a link to a video on YouTube, but the user removed it. If you search for it you can find some version of the song.
Bruce
Now added to the Playlist Bruce. Thank you.
Paul
I know of some that talk about long hair, but none really fully about it.
America - Ventura Highway
"Feel The Free Wind Blowing Thru Your Hair"
America - Sister Golden Hair
"Well, I keep on thinkin bout you, sister golden hair surprise"
Don Henley - The End of The Innocence
"Go ahead and lay your long hair around me"
Nickelback - Rockstar
"I'd Even C** my hair" (Don't flame me on this one, I don't agree with the statement, but you asked!)
I might think of more later, if I do, I'll post them!!
I love Nickelback and I love that song! I do cringe when he says that... uh. Lol.
Sister Golden Hair is one I remembered from growing up. Awesome tune. I've heard the others too and if I find them I'll add them as well. Thanks.
Paul
Your very welcome! :)
For some reason, this song, "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynyrd Skynyrd evokes the idea of long hair for me. Ronnie VanZant always had that long, stringy, blond hair, and it's like the lyrics reflect himself.
"I was cutting the rug
Down at a place called the jug
With a girl named linda lu
When in walked a man
With a gun in his hand
And he was looking for you know who.
He said, hey there fellow,
With your hair colored yellow,
Watcha tryin to prove?
cause thats my woman there
And Im a man who cares
And this might be all for you."
Right you are. "Gimmie 3 steps" always been one of my favorites, even ranking higher than "Sweet Home Alabama" which is over played even today.
It's too bad Lynyrd never made a song about the hair situation at their school. They named their band after their hair hating gym teacher. The way I heard it, Leonard Skinner (the teacher) was notorious for strictly enforcing the school's policy against boys having long hair. Later, they all kissed and made up. Lol (jk)
Paul
Hello Everyone.
Here is an anthem-like song dating back from 1965, and you will
find that the lyrics still apply to today :)
The link is from a long-haired friend of mine who is a lover of nature as well.
This song should be revived for the new generation of longhairs :)
Georges.
Home of the Brave by Jody Miller
Very cool lyrics Georges. I couldn't add it to MySpace though, damn it. That is one I have to get.

John.B

Paul

Birdman
I can't wait to hear it!
Paul
Come Together - Beatles/Aerosmith (he got hair down to his knee)
Fight for your Right - Beastie Boys (I dont really like it, but theres a line about hair)
I have 4182 songs on my iPod, some have to be about hair... Ill search and be back
also, they dont have to do with hair (as far as I know) but listening to Blind Melon, The Black Crowes, and Cage the Elephant always make me happy to have long hair and be happy and realize what is wrong and right in the world and be a hippie
~Jarvis~
Song 2 - Blur
So Far - Buckcherry ... it can be about hair
Get the Funk Out - Extreme (same as So Far)
Id Like Your Hair Long - Hum
The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair - Led Zeppelin
Cut Your Hair - Pavement
...Ill be back
~Jarvis~
Thanks Jarvis, I've heard of most of those. I thought about adding "Cut Your Hair" but I wasn't clear on the massage. Sounded more like anti-longhair. I'm checking out the others.
Paul
I dont think it is, the lyrics dont seem like it (more like anti haircut/corporate weenie)
also, the video is them all going in for a cut. And even though none of them have more than maybe 4-5 inches at most, they all 5 find stupid ways to not get a haircut...
just my interpretation though...
I just thought of another song!
Kid Rock - All Summer Long, there is more then one reference to long hair:
First line of the song: "It was 1989, my thoughts were short my hair was long"
10 & 11 lines of the song: "But man I never will forget The way the moonlight shined upon her hair"
A lot of my friends hate the song, because they feel that Kid Rock stole a lot from the Lynyrd Skynyrd song - Sweet Home Alabama, but while he used parts of the song, I still think he made it his.
Yeah, I like that song by the Kidd but it just don't seem very flattering toward longhair. He does still wear his hair long, no?
As for him stealing from Lynyrd, I think he was more like, paying tribute to them.
Paul
But it's getting the idea out there in the public's eye. I still fancy the song :)
And yes, I've attached a picture, he does still wear it long!
Ehmr...Kid Rock did NOT steal the song. -.-
It's just a cover of the song Sweet Home Alabama with different lyrics! Many artists do so.
Kid Rock kicks ass.

Hi,
thats an interesting thread. I have a very rare musical interest - film music. I dont know if its fitting here, but I want to add this note to the topic:
One of the greatest and famous film music composers, Jerry Goldsmith, was a long-hair for many years despite his age and it looked good (I think). He composed, for example, the music for the movies Star Trek (1978), Planet of the Apes, The Omen, Total Recall, Gremlins, Supergirl and many more...
Too bad he is gone (1929-2004). I miss him and his great music.
