Okay i am starting the long hair process it will be a long while for me yet but what do you do with your long hair while sleeping keep it in ponytail or put it at head of bed just wondering thanx

When mine got to be long enough to bother me but not long enough to tie back properly, I used to half-tail it with another tie holding the lower part back.
These days, I just plait it and hope it (or my other half) doesn't throttle me.
I find having it in a tail is more uncomfortable than occasionally rolling over onto it. When turning in bed from time to time it pulls and a slight turn of the head or lift your head and turn and then you forget about it. I find I do this without thinking or noticing it and probably do it without waking up.
Others have all sorts of issues and or worries of breakage and use satin pillows etc. You'll hear from them soon enough. I just sleep on it and it doesn't bother me. In the early days I tried tying it up on top of my head but again I hated it. I have to wear a tail at work I sure don't want to wear one in bed.

Wise advice
For the most part I just sleep with it loose. Occasionally I'll do a segmented tail, although in the case of sleeping I'll tie it more loosely than normal, and I'll put the first tie two-three inches away from my head. Otherwise I get this big uncomfortable lump right behind my neck when I'm laying on my back. I've bought a set of thicker fabric ties than the ones I normally use during the day specifically for the purpose of sleeping, as they tend to give a little more. This means they don't hold as well, which is why I don't use them during the day, but they're more comfortable when I lay on them.
I like to braid my hair before going to bed. It won't get too messy and tangly and I get some nice wavy hair in the morning (which I like).
Sometimes I just tie it back and sleep on it, but I find that kind of uncomfortable when lying on my back.
I gave up sleeping with loose hair after the awkward stage since it gets all messy and tangles up over the night.
I agree w/ Kevin; but also sometimes do similarly to what JSFrodo does, too.
Some nights I fall asleep with my hair still in a bun (especially when I'm so tired that I start snoring the minute my head hits the pillow - LOL); sometimes I fall asleep w/ it still in a braid; but, most times when I go to bed I prefer wearing it loose... And, since growing one's hair out is a gradual learning experience, you just get used to it, and adjust accordingly. It doesn't bother me that sometimes my hair gets trapped under my armpit, or I wake up with a curtain of it across my eyes, --- as long as it's still attached to my head, I'm happy!

I couldn't be doing with that at all. I'm a restless sleeper, and even in a braid, it wakes me up. Even worse, if I tun over too quickly, I get a punch in the ribs from my other half, who doesn't appreciate a slap across the face with my plait!
Put the ponytail is several segmented sections and go to sleep. Helps alot with the tangles! :-)
For me I just keep mine loose, and I've not strangled myself yet!
Cheers,

I just put it somewhere away from my body, and that's it. I never got strangled by my hair in sleep!
Rick,
I usually just have my hair loose. It's comfortable, I found that tails usually are uncomfortable. I have braided my hair before(a few times).

Hey there,
I tend to go for either the braiding approach, or putting a hair tie on, but moving it a few inches down from the usual up-high ponytail position (as JSFrodo suggested.) Either of those approaches works well for me, and keeps the hair from pulling a bit if I toss + turn a bit.

I just keep my hair loose at night. I do not like it in a ponytail because when I sleep on my back my ponytail becomes very uncomfortable when I try to sleep with my face facing the ceiling.

I had an extra problem with this issue when my hair first started to get long. The reason? I have Sleep Apnea and have to wear a mask to make sure I keep breathing while I sleep (yeah, it sounds odd, you would think that if you stopped breathing you'd die, but it's just stopping for short bit here, and a short bit there. if anyone is curious, ask and I'll give more info).
I have to pull my hair up and through the back strap of the mask, otherwise it continuously slips off my head during the course of the night. To tell the truth, I find this helps, because it tends to make my hair sit above my head on the pillow. It just took me a while to figure this particular thing out lol
I just keep my hair in a ponytail. I sleep on my side so it's no problem if you sleep on your back that is uncomfortable.
Well no one else mentioned this so this is how I handle the sleeping with longhair issue.I first comb out my hair making sure there are no tangles initially then I put on a T shirt but leave my hair still tucked into the shirt. So now my hair is in between my back and the shirt and won't get pulled should I move around during the night.Might want to try it if you don't mind wearing a T shirt in bed.

I take my pony tail and twist it, then pull it up over the crown of my head and pin it with bobby pines, or those little clips, on the top of my head. When I wake up, it is still more or less neat, and I let it out of captivity and it looks OK.

Multi ties work best for me for both day and night use. My hair is delicate and extremely tangle prone. If I didn't do this, I would have to trim it to mid back length.
