Meaning, Europe and that part of the world :)
It seems that their society and culture is more accepting of men with beards and longhair.
From what I read, french rugby player Sebastien Chabal (who by the way, is my lastest huge fanboy obsession, lol) is a sex symbol in France.
Whereas back here in the states, god forbid you have anything more than stubble, or your hair is *gasp* 2 inches long.

I'm hoping some members on this board are from that side of the world and perhaps can confirm or deny this?

I'm just getting really frustrated with America's interpretation of beard and longhair on men. Stubble is not a beard, and emo shags are not long hair!
...as I have states often, longhair and facial hair is readily accepted in the SouthWest U.S. where lifestyles are casual. Longhair among the geriatric crowd is also on the rise.
How about adding an amendment to the constitution then!
I agree with that. I really don't like people that just keep stubble all the time. Shave or grow a real beard. As for emo anything, I hate it, stupid haircuts included.
I can't provide any direct observation on how things are in Europe, as I live in the U.S. just outside of Boston. I have noticed that in many parts of Massachusetts, long hair and beards seem to becoming more prevalent. Beards seem to be a bit more common, perhaps because they take less time to grow. Long hair is certainly not dominant though.
I also suspect that different parts of the state have different ratios of long hairs to short hairs.

I spend a significant amount of time in England and France. I think that folks over there are much more tolerant of longer hair and beards, in general. You see alot of long hair among men at university and younger men. But, I will also note that it appears to be less prevalent among men in the workplace (artistic endeavors, aside). I think that there are some cultural and some practical sides to this. Its also much more common to see younger guys going from long to short and back again.
Europeans are much less judgemental of their neghbors and I think that there is much less "name calling" related to hair over there than over here.
I hope this helps some.
In Mexico despite our connections with our great long haired ancestors, long hair is looked down upon. Where my folks are from anything longer than 2 in. is long and is unacceptable even with my more modern Norcal family on my dads side are like that... although ironically they let women wear it short despite such conservative ideals.
Schools in Mexico also mandate that males should keep their hair short. I guess this is one of the many gifts the Spanish gave to us.
The percentage of longhairs here in Serbia is very low, and even in that small number, they're mostly discriminated. It's funny how I hoped once I manage to move to U.S., I'll be more accepted. Now I hear it's the other way round.
Though longhair here in America isn't common/very accepted it is probably moreso than Serbia.
Perhaps you are better off staying in Serbia and it's certainly one country I have not visited.
Cheers,

It depends on where you go. Some areas are very accepting of longhairs. Coastal California is a good bet although can be very expensive to live there, and various college towns throughout the midwest. I lived in Madison Wisconsin and long hair was everywhere.
The south tends to be much more conservative and hence you'll find less tolerance there for longhair in general. Texas for example we've all read about various local texas school districts hair policies. Although Austin is reasonable I hear so again it depends on where exactly you are.

Here in Western North Carolina i Have Lowerupper Back Leangth Hair and Get nothing but comments....no negativity at all.....
...unless they're Orthodox priests or monks!
See you in Khyberspace!

Now playing: Child Migration (Eloy)
" ...unless they're Orthodox priests or monks!"
Uh, that would be only Orthodox monks, not priests, really. In Serbia, there are even no priests with very long beards, their beards must be short... There are longhaired priests in Russia, though...
I think that no matter what country you live in, it all depends on the community you're in. I live around a bunch of conservative, closed-minded, jackass rednecks who hate the fact that I have long hair (so I get girls to do a bunch of crazy braids and stuff to my hair just to piss them off even more ;)
But theres also a good bit of people who are perfeclt fine with the hair, and some more that have, or are planning to have, long hair. So its a weird mix around me.
Either way, Im still growin my hair and wearin tyedie and teashades whether people like it or not.
America is a smorgusboarg of different tyoes of views regarding long hair on men.
Down south they don't know what to do with long hair on men if they had it
but up north and places like California long hair on men is more ecceptable.
But unfortunately even in New York state there is some discrimination of long haired men and I live in NY
It is pretty bad in Washington state.
I hate that kind of bigotry.. I even lost a job in NY state because of my long hair. There is also a flowershop that had a sign saying :hippies use back door. I am not sure if tey accully inforce that but it would be descusting if they did.
Birdman
back door. I am not sure if tey accully inforce that but it would be descusting if they did.
Hah! I have one of those on my bedroom door. I almost hope it was serious, I would have gone around and seen if there was a back door just to piss them off

I didnt know I was in 'the east' (she says being in Europe, to me the east is Asia.. lol)
perhaps because we still have the ancient celtic/viking connections and history its easier but there is still subtle & direct discrimination to men with long hair, yknow the comments 'you could do this' or 'that' I hate people that assume they can tell my partner what to do with his hair, or that he should get rid of his beard .. whats it to them??
so its around all over the world, i think you just have to do your own thing and either ignore daft people or smack them in the face... LOL
