So last year, I posted a topic about how to care for my hair, and I heard that I should only wash my hair once a week. Well, that worked good for a few months, but now I find myself with the following symptoms:
1.) My hair looks dull.
2.) My hair is frizzy/poofy.
3.) My hair is dry
4.) Every time I run my fingers through my hair, I hit a tangle and pull out strands.
I use Garnier Fructis shampoo designed for dry hair, once a week. I used to use a different Garnier Fructis shampoo - one with conditioner - a long time ago, but I found it made my hair poofy too. So how do I tame this wavy mop on my head?
To answer your other question, be patient, you are nowhere near terminal or in a growth plateau although it may seam that way. If you watch grass grow it doesn't seam like anything is happening, but come back a month later and yikes you've got knee high grass! Does this make sense? Don't obsess, just enjoy!
To answer this question, maybe you can try a wee bit of jojoba oil just after you shower to add back what natural oils you seam to be losing when you shampoo.
Must importantly, hang in there, you've got a great head of hair!

I need to actually measure my hair, because I suspect it might seem like it's not growing because it's curling up like nuts at the ends.
BTW, at least 2 people now have mentioned Jojoba Oil. What is this, and what store can I get it at?
Hi Todd,
Here is a link to the Wikipedia entry on Jojoba oil:
Here's a quote from that acticle
"Unlike common vegetable oils, jojoba oil is chemically very similar to human sebum"
I think I brought it at CVS or maybe Shaw's Supermarket in the organic section.

Try using a separate conditioner. The purpose of shampoo is to take the oil and junk out of your hair. Conditioner puts the oil back in. Combination products don't do either well.
What I do is water only wash my hair every couple of days. Once a week, I'll shampoo, rinse it out right away, and glop on a LOT of conditioner. I'll leave that in while I finish showering and rinse it out at the end.
That works for me but your milage may vary.

Well, I guess the water-wash idea is out for me - I woke up the next morning with question-mark curls. O_O
I think what I will try next is alternate between no washing one time then the next time using shampoo, rinse, then conditioner. I still do have the Garnier Fructis "leave-in" conditioner someone recommended last year. I assume that can be also used as a conventional conditioner...
Try including a conditioner after you shampoo. Not the "2-in-1" shampoo stuff, a "real" conditioner.
The Pantene Pro V line has worked well for me.
Jojoba oil is also helpful - just few small drops finger-combed into the ends of your hair.

Like the other guys said, you should start using a conditioner EVERY day. Depending on how much oil your scalp produces and how much you sweat will determine how often you need to shampoo. I usually shampoo every other day, but I know that others here use it less than that. I use Pantene classic care and it works pretty good (although the Ice Shine did work better and as soon as I run out of this stuff Im getting that again.
Now that I think about it, my hair isn't as dull as I thought, so I don't think I will need the Jojoba Oil. But the biggest issue I do have with my hair is the tangles/frizziness. So should I just contonue with the suggestions I have gotten so far (i.e. Pantene, conditioner, alternating washing techniques, etc), or is there anything to add?
