Having previous experience with MTV, provokes the sarcasm in the subject of this message. But alas, it is my duty to not withhold any opportunities from you guys...

Do people mistake you for Fabio? (NY, NY)
Hit show on MTV is casting males with extremely long hair. If your locks reach past your waist we want to hear from you.
Please submit a recent photo and sizes with all contact information for more details.
Good Luck!

Something tells me this will end up in our breed being ridiculed or urged to get a makeover. It is my belief that nothing good can come out of MTV. Hell, maybe Kayne will ruin your moment and declare Beyonce has the hottest longest hair...of all time! :)
Lmao, Pimp my Hair coming soon.
Hmm, people do say I remind them of Fabio. Although, when has Fabio had anywhere near waist length hair? I can only wonder what type of show this would be.
WHAT? You look nothing like that guy! Your hair is way better looking and definitively very natural on you.
Yep, I agree with you all, this will be an interesting show...
Yeah, I don't really see it either. I guess working at a pool without a shirt on all the time made people think of him. Apparently all tan, shirtless, long haired, fit guys look alike. Hairism at its finest. Haha.
LOL... Fabio is more than twice your age.
I read your other post above regarding the show. Keep us posted if you decide to do this and make sure you take good pictures.
BTW, I know you have dressed up for Halloween (Conan if I'm not forgetting) --any thoughts about this year? I'm attending a big party and was thinking about some kind of Circus character--not a clue yet thou...
I've been growing out the beard for a little while now, so I'm planning on going as a wizard. Should be a pretty easy costume. Robe tied with a rope à la Messiah Marcolin. Maybe don a wizard hat too. It's not going to top my Conan costume from last year though. I haven't got any of the stuff yet. Need to make sure I'll have somewhere important to wear it. I'll be sure to post pics. Be sure to show us pics of your costume too.
If MTV's making a music video on a recreation of WOODSTOCK then that would be cool! But if it's a horror flick based on THE ATTACK OF THE SCISSORS then hell no!
...somehow I get the feeling that wont be it.
my guess: ANOTHER dating show
~Jarvis~
Well, my brother has often recommended that I pose half-naked for pics to start my own calendar boy-of-the-month longhaired male model craze, calling myself, "FLABBIO", --- do you think that would be a big hit?? (LOL)
OK, I bet they're just PANTING for over-weight longhaired geezers like me to walk in their door... I doubt they'd even want to keep me for one of their "make-overs", --- I mean, you get to a certain age and body shape in life when even the most talented "stylist" / make-over artist is gonna say, "Are people really going to want to see anybody try to make over THAT?"
I should hurry, though, just in case this may be my last opportunity to get some fame & fortune out of life... I guess it's time for me to rush out and get a whole new wardrobe at my favorite local clothing store, "San Francisco Tent & Awning"!!!

Haha, no compensation, it's said, Ken. No chance for the fortune :)
Shit, I just found a bug in MLHH. Can you find it ? :D
You mean where one message shifted into italics and never shifted back, I assume...
I think I just found where in MLHH the bug is. It is in the flawed, laid back demeanor of the moderation crew, which does not beat users silly when they break this rule: "Pay attention to detail if you want to use HTML. It must be entered exactly right or it won't work, and wrongly-entered HTML might mess up the appearance of your message."
HTML tags if begun must be properly closed, and the Internet's recent degeekification means a much smaller percentage of users nowadays know HTML than did back in the 1990s when this site was begun. If you know HTML, it's therefore probably best nowadays to not use HTML that spans material so long that replying users are apt to chop it up in their replies. They are not apt to know as much HTML as you do, and they may not know they need to, or how to, terminate the HTML you started.
HTML is very handy for including links and for putting more than one photo in a message, so I can't imagine MLHH would want to disable it just because users mess up using it occasionally. These are short uses of HTML that replying users are not apt to split up, although failure to enter them right can wipe out the bottom of your message, messing up the "followup" list. If we enter these short HTML items with care, and we don't use HTML over long stretches of text, the problem of improper HTML in messages should appear infrequently.
Bill
Yep.
Maybe I should write something to correct the tags in the messages, although it's not a big deal if it's only or something like that... Oups ! *grins*
My first thought was, "write regex for broken tag, kick user back to form if it's broken". It looks like that might be harder than I thought:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1231844/how-to-find-the-last-html-tag-which-has-not-closed-using-regular-expressions
There are two options. One is to kick the user back, in effect telling him his post is flawed. The other is to attempt to close the tag, but the immediate question is, "How would the software know where in the post to put it?" Also, to simplify these processes, it would be tempting to create a short list of the only HTML tags acceptable, and then users would be frustrated when finding some standard tags don't work.
Any of that would likely be more annoying to users than just having a post mangled now and then. Also, learning proper HTML is useful to users. Learning rules that only work here would not be, and would be a waste of users' time. Although the board does mangle a few obscure HTML attempts on purpose (to protect users from hacker ploys that could harm users), the general approach has historically been to give users as much freedom as possible to put HTML to use.
Particularly in the realm of "learning useless information" is a tack some boards use of creating HTML-similar tags that use square brackets. Not only do these only implement a sub-set of full HTML which must be learned, but also they lead users into learning a scheme that is not the standard. On the other hand, users who learn HTML to post here can take that knowledge just about anywhere else on the Internet and use it to make web pages.
Anyone wanting to learn more about HTML can find plenty of information by googling "HTML tutorial". Guys, go for it!
Bill
On the one hand, I generally like any code I deal with to be as "bullet proof" as possible. On the other hand, bullet-proofing this board is probably overkill because the moderation system takes care of it.
On the other hand, I agree wrt to BBscript and Wiki markup. The fact that they're Open Source doesn't excuse them. They're every bit as annoying as any proprietary "embrace and extend" version of a standard that Microsoft put out.
Same deal with people who claim their C is "portable" when what they really mean is "portable to any *NIX with gcc". As somebody who's written C that runs on *NIX systems and Win* systems, with the Makefile/project being the only difference, such abuses of the term "portable" tend to bother me.
To play devil's advocate though, proprietary codes are fine if they advance the state of the art in some way, or demonstrate an alternative that might have some merit over the existing standard. For example, if the author of Python had simply said, "I'll use Java", nobody would have gotten a chance to try Python. Now, I don't particularly care for Python either; but I defend the right of people to have Python, and for hundreds (thousands?) of language authors to run their flags up the pole, and see if anybody salutes.
In other words, bad languages are the price we pay for good languages, just as rude comments and bad TV are the price we pay for free speech.

So far I only know how to use 3 tags. big, italics, and bold. How are multiple photos done? I have been using Corel draw to group multiple photos and it takes a lot of time.
Also how is coloured text done? I would like to add red, green or blue occasionally. Is it a code number or do I type the name of the colour?
Scott
LIKE THIS, or at least, I hope since there's no preview. View source on this page to see what I did.
And note that in the HTML coding it must be spelled "color". Spelling it "colour" will not wourk.
Bill

I am going to give this a try. This should be indigo. This should be orange. I will post ths and see if it worked.
Scott

Thanks guys, I will try the multiple photos later. I am assuming that they have to be downloaded from a website like my space.
Scott
Scott,
If your photos are uploaded on another site such as Photobucket, you can do multiple photos with "img" tags.
Something like this:
---
Description of photo 1
(img src="http://www.mysite.com/photo1.jpg")(br)
Description of photo 2
(img src="http://www.mysite.com/photo2.jpg")(br)
Photo 3 centered
(center)(img src="http://www.mysite.com/photo3.jpg")(/center)(br)
etc...
---
In this example, replace the "(" with the left angle bracket and the ")" with the right angle bracket to get the actual working HTML tag.
The (br)s are line breaks to ensure that text or whatever start on a new line below the image.

Hi Scott,
I have to cheat and peek at the answers from time to time
Here is the link to the info on the mlhh site
http://www.mlhh.org/faq-html.html#htmltags
You can just repeat the "img" tag over and over to create multible pictures in your post
Also I found this outside source to be useful

The "What will it take to get your hair cut off?" show, I bet.
With poor (horrible, actually) Hip Hop music in the background, I can see it now. Please, kill MTV. Reminds me of the movie "They Live" from '88; people need to put on the special glasses and see what MTV truly is.
Ok (putting special glasses on)...
*gasp*...
Video killed the radio star.

"I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, BUT BEYONCE HAS THE BEST HAIR OF ALL TIME"
I actually emailed them asking about the show. Apparently it involves no cutting at all. Just dipping your hair in water and slapping someone in the face with it to try and get them to make noise. Me and my friends were talking about driving up to NY, we just needed a reason... While I do hate MTV, slapping someone in the face repeatedly with my wet hair does sound like a lot fun.
wow really? lol. I definitely didn't expect that
Man, I can't wait until I have hair long enough to use as a weapon. For now I'll have to settle for occasionally eating a mouthful of it when I'm lowering my head to take a bite out of a sandwich!
That's not much of a challenge, all I have to do is flip my (dry) hair about and whomever happens to be in the wrong position within the danger zone immediately lets out a "Hey" when they get nailed.
There must be more to the proposed show.
