I read a post here not too long ago that someone put up that it's best to wash/condition every other day, and I think they may have said they have found that their hair grows better/faster with this as one piece of a hair routine. (I freely admit I may have misunderstood).
Having been kinda' particular about the way I looked, I couldn't imagine not washing my hair everyday, but for about the last month and a half, I've gone days without, just going to bed, waking up and brushing it.
It's at a length that it really looks good even the second day, which is great! Makes getting ready for work much quicker.
My ? is, why is this beneficial?

Your scalp produces natural oils which help keep hair healthyand strong. Washing every day keeps your hair deprived of the nutrients contained in those oils.
I totally agree with you. My hair is oily and I wash it and condition it every day. My hair is long and VERY thick. It looks it's best when washed and looks healthy. Pantene Pro-V conditioner and Loreal shampoo is what I use everyday. It's interesting because I have the same long hair style as Claudia Schiffer and is the same color too.
We both use Loreal shampoo as she says she does in the Loreal commercial. "Cause you're worth it." That's what she says.

I very much agree.
And I've found that the longer my hair gets, the less often I should wash it. When an inch long, it needed washing daily. When a few inches long, it needed it every other day. This was because the scalp would start to itch once the meager amount of hair up there had become saturated with oil and could absorb no more, while the scalp kept making it. The buildup on the scalp would itch.
Now that my hair is about a foot long, I find myself washing it every 5 to 7 days. More hair up there means more oil absorption is possible, and when one's hair gets long enough, it gets to where it can (at least in my case) absorb all the oil the scalp can throw its way. The scalp never feels oily, so it never itches. So when one's hair gets to a certain length, the criteria for whether to wash or not shifts from whether the scalp is oily to whether the hair is dirty.
The first day when I wash the hair has the conditioner in it, so it combs smoothly, but day two it catches quite a bit. By day three the natural oils are beginning to nourish the hair and it combs very smoothly - far smoother in fact than it ever did when I washed more frequently. For the next few days it combs very smoothly as my combing draws oils from the scalp along the hair to nourish it.
Then the combing gets rougher again and I feel more catches and tangles. I realize now that that is because my hair is beginning to get dirty. So it's time to wash it and repeat the process.
Since everyone has hair of different thicknesses, hair with different capacities to absorb oil, and scalps with different rates of oil production, and people spend their lives in places of varying dustiness, one must experiment for himself. Some people on here wash daily or every other day, and some say they do it weekly. In my case, it is now tending to be about once a week, but I've learned to judge how dirty my hair is by its FEEL, and I go by that completely. I certainly don't mark my calendar to remember when I last washed it. :-)

People are supposed to wash their hair everyday if it's oily. My hair is very long (it's down to my boobs) and it is oily so I have to wash it everyday.
It is your business to wash your hair every other day, I understand, but if someone's hair is long and oily, it should be frequently washed. My hair stylist says to me" How do you wash all that hair everyday?" I say I manage because my hair looks it's best washed with Pantene Pro-V conditioner and Loreal shampoo. Those I recommend are great for long thick hair.
well...i must shampoo and condition my hair everyday because it's an icehell in minneapolis....my hair just gets tooo dry. and i have mousse and hair water in my hair so, i gotta wash it out...and i don't think not washing it will make it grow faster. i believe in diet and genetics. not hair care products.
