This is about as long as I plan on letting the crown of my hair grow, but I will grow the back of my hair to allow a decently long ponytail. A personal choice since the last time I had cut my hair was because I annoyed of it constantly getting in my face, and a single ponytail isn't a style I'm fond of. I don't know how the rest of you guys do it day to day. :(
Once your hair is long enough it will stay out of the way without being tied. You have to go through the so called akward stage where hair get's in the way the whole time and after that there's no problem.
Im right around the end of the awkward stage right now (almost all bangs can be put in a regular ponytail) and my hair never gets in my face unless the wind is blowing pretty hard, i would imagine as it gets longer it will get in my face even less since it will have more weight and be less easy to blow around.
I would recommend letting all of your hair grow out, but it is your choice.
My hair back then didn't hold up to wind (I spend a lot of time outdoors). Even disregarding the wind though, I am very physically active and find my head tilted in all kind of directions in the process. It just didn't work out.
I do have a style in mind just for this, though.
...it sure helps my MPB from "getting down in my face".
??
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't keeping your hair at that length make it go in your face more often because you can't pull it into a tail? Also, wouldn't this give you more of a mullet look once the rest grows out?
It's merely the dreaded "awkward stage" that drove me insane before I got the hair to cooperate. I'm glad I didn't give into my annoyance. It'll take time, just hang in there. Until it get's to that stage, you can use gels or mousse to keep it manageable.
