A few weeks ago I posted on here that a job I applied for asked me to cut my hair if I wanted the position.
Well, I stood my ground, put it in a bun above my collar and asked the general manager if it would be acceptable. She, a woman with very short hair, said she thought it would be ok.
Afterwards I busted my ass working as hard as I could to show I am a capable worker. So far nobody has brought it up and it hasn't raised any red flags. They definitely don't mind anymore.
Just wanted to thank everyone who showed their support and told me to hold my stance. It really did end up pulling through in the end. I was so close to cutting it this time and am so glad that I didn't.
Admittedly I do feel lucky that most of the management here is female. Women seem to be able to show more empathy than men do about the hair situation.
Great news and so happy to hear of this. The "bun" trick seems to come in quite helpful to some. Inspiration to others to stand their ground, for not ALL long hairs are turned away.
Don't go down unless your back is to the wall and all other options have been exhausted.
Very cool indeed!
N/T I said !
Hi Ash,
That is graet news, and I am glad that you hung in there and kept the hair growing!
Best of luck,
David
Hi Ash,
I'm glad you stuck your guns and looks like it has worked out great.
Cheers,

Great to hear a succes story for a change!
I think I missed that post, sorry.
This is great news! I'm glad to hear standing your ground worked out and I'm also glad you posted it. That will let the doubters know that they don't HAVE to cut their hair to get a job.
I don't agree with your last statement about female management. Some of the worst Hair Nazis I've run across have been women but I don't think gender has any kind of bearing on it. My boss is female and she is a longhair fan but I've known some who flat out hatred it. Likewise, I've run across men who will hate you just because of your hair.
I do believe that Blacks are more accepting of longhair (as customers anyway) than Whites.

That's great to hear that at you came out of that with all your hair.I may be wrong but are you the guy from San Francisco who posted about looking for a restaurant job back in October? If that's you I remember the awesome fantastic hair in your posted pic.Anyway thanks for the update.
Mark
Congratulations. Truly happy you managed to keep your mane and find work, as not having either one can be painful.
