It is insane, lol.
I swear, there must be atleast 3 guys on each team that's sporting long dreds.
Anyone scene those shampoo commercials with Troy Polamalu? CLASSIC GOLD! LOL
And speaking of Polamalu, he pretty much makes the Steelers Defense, so it's also great to know that no one rags on his 'look' so much, due to his ability as a great player.
I'm not big on football, but when you join a fantasy league, it kinda pulls you in. LOL
Thanks for the football reminder. Since I am not a big player, or watcher, I have wondered if it was illegal for other players to pull on the big man's big hair, or in any way, target his locks or dreds? Given the size of that guy, one would think twice before tangling with HIS locks!!!
Just wondering what you other fans know about the "american" football rules?

A few years ago Troy Polamala was involved in a much discussed incident where he was brought to the ground by his hair (I'm sure you'll be able to find it on Youtube). I don't know if the rules have changed since, but at the time hair was considered part of the uniform and it was perfectly legal to grab it during a tackle.
I'm surprised guys keep their hair flowing out of their helmets; I know I wouldn't want a 250 pounder pulling me down with it mid-sprint. Also makes you wonder how a player could even do that to another person. Maybe I'm just soft!
Word up from the guys in my office, who, although they have pitifully short hair, know why Troy does not get tugged.
It seems he now plays Defense, and would never have the ball, so there is no reason to tackle him. He is essentially a blocker, and is just someone to be avoided, (like that's possible), so no one pulls his hair. The guys who run with the ball, would be another story, and usually, they have their hair short, or well under the helmet.
Another mystery solved.

Actually he has been pulled down by his hair before. It is legal in the NFL. Its bappened a couple times when another player just grabbed the hair hanging from his helmet and pulled him backwards.
He does play defense. He's a safety. However, just because someone plays defense doesn't mean they never touch the ball. Troy gets his hands on the ball by intercepting passes and recovering fumbles. At this point it's up to the offense to tackle him if they want to save a touchdown. Polamalu is one of the NFL's top defensive players and while I'm not sure about fumble recoveries I know he catches his fair share of interceptions.
I don't watch football (although I loved to play when I was younger). And even I have noticed this and I am very freaking happy about it!
And about the hair pulling... I never heard of it. We all played extremely rough and most everybody had long hair. It just didn't happen. Someone would have to be a true dick to do that and he would probably start some serious crap.

A lot of NFL guys inspired me to grow my hair out (almost 8 months in)
As a white guy, I look to a few players as examples:
AJ Hawk, Clay Matthews on the Packers
Brian Cushing (RIP long hair) on the Texans
All have great hair
