I took my boys to see Planet 51 while my wife and our daughter watched the new Twilight movie.
Planet 51 had one scene that I thought "hair relevant". Here's what happened; The general (the antagonist) grabs one "hippie" alien by the hair and states the youth is an alien.
"What's this? This is alien." he quips.
"It's his hair... he likes it long."
Makes me feel sorta warm and fuzzy inside. Lol.
Twilight on the other hand, Jason gets a major haircut. Jason (I guess everyone knows by now; the "Team Edward/Team Jason" rivalry), is an American Indian with mid back length hair.
He turns into a wolf and cuts his hair off cause "it was more convenient". Now he don't just trim it, oh no, he hacks it all off! Ugh, I'm very disappointed with Stephanie Myers.

You should've read all those Twilight message boards where all these teen girls were so happy he cut his hair. LOL.
I think they go in phases.
From birth to 15 yrs old, they mostly prefer short hair because that is what they deem to be normal.
At 16 to 21, they discover metal/rock music and develop and interest in long hair. LOL
Then from 21 +, it can go either way. They may fancy long hair guys forever, or grow out of it, as it were.
Just my observation/thoughts.
Except for this girl who ALWAYS liked guys with long hair (and always will), much to my mother's dismay! LOL!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
It's actually Jacob, not Jason. and frankly I have become rather sick of the whole corny franchise. There was a lot of controversy about casting Taylor Laughtner as Jacob, especially from NA actors who complained that there was a large availability of suitable natives who could have done this role. The Wolfpack was supposedly made up entirely of NA's. Laughtner never has had long hair, they used hair extensions for the movie. Author Stephanie Myers is a devout practicing Mormon. Mormon = clean-cut.
Yes, I realize that hair extensions were used. Just as they were used for Val Kilmer in Willow and Michael Wincott in The Crow. I like to see longhairs represented in movies and it doesn't concern me if they wear extensions or not. That the "character" has longhair is important.
I agree that Native Americans should have been in the movie instead of Taylor Laughtner whom I really dislike. I didn't like him as Shark boy either. To me he looks like a stuck-up ass and I'd like to slap that smart alack look right off his face.
I didn't know Mrs. Myers was Mormon and I'm surprised that the resident religious crowd didn't pop up to attack your statement. When I make an observation like that (and a legitimate one, I might add) they come out of the woodwork.
Paul
There were some who thought the hair was real, and were upset that it was chopped off in the film. They fell in love with the longhaired Laughtner. But hair extensions are used a lot in Hollywood. I agree with you about longhairs represented in movies, I like seeing them on TV too (Mathew Gray Gubler, "Dr Spencer Reid" on Criminal Minds whose hair is real).
NA's were also upset at the reason Jacob cut his hair in the film. No true NA would have ever shorn his locks for such a ridiculous reason. Lot of critism from NA's, and quite justifiable. To me Laughtner just doesn't look the part, I feel he was miscast. It was all about satisfying teenage girls and their hormones, pick the "pretty boy", and not about accuracy.
Well, I don't know what anybody could say, it is the truth, and pretty much public knowledge. Mormon's are very anti-longhair, just look at the dress and grooming code for Bringham Young University. She couldn't even have NA's as the members of the Wolf Pack have long hair, they are all portrayed by short-haired actors, as they are short-haired in the book. Yes, there are short-haired NA's, but I believe they are in the minority.
I can guess your wife's opinion about the movie; but did your daughter like it, and the books?
Angel's definitely "Team Edward" lol.
My daughter likes Jacob, she thinks he's "hot". But she's 12 so there's proof that he's supposed to appeal to whipper snappers.
But I didn't ground her for that, lol.

I can totally relate, Paul --- thanks for sharing that (LOL)!!

Planet 51 is great fun.
I saw it in August and have been looking forward to its general release ever since. I don't often recommend films, but I'd say there's something for everyone in this one.
I had my doubt's but it turned out to be a lot better than what I thought.
Paul
Yeah, there a quite a few references which the kids don't quite get, but which have the adults in stitches.
