Good news brethren! AFter talking with my boss, I was able to convince him my hair does not need to be cut and I could just gel it or mousse it to keep it neat. So success! On a side note, anyone know of good hair products to keep wavy hair in the awkward stage neat? It curls around the ears and in the back which is pretty annoying. I feel like ive been in the awkward stage forever, when does it end? When you can finally put it into a pony tail or when you can tuck it all behind the ears?
Great news Dude!
Man I love to hear success stories like this. Thanks for sharing.

I agree man, its about time we finally have some success in this area and congrats to the Dude.

Congratulations! Wonderful news. I think you will find that clear, natural Gel, just a dab, can do wonders for damp hair. Comb it the directions you want, then leave it to dry as it will. DON'T comb it again, and you will see it stays very well.
On another note, Sunday, I saw a couple of guys at the local Best Buy store with truly amazing long hair. They were the honchos at the Customer Care center, and the main guy had the smoothest, silkiest long hair, well below mid-back. So, yes, the "Geek Squad" as the Best Buy people like to call themselves seem to be more than long-hair-friendly, for all of you other job seekers.
Not only are they "customer friendly", they are longhair inspirations!!!

Well done man! I'm well into the awkward stage, middle of this month with be 1 year approx. so I know where your coming from.
On special occasions, I'll use mouse, style it and let it be. If I'm just running errins or something, I'll just throw on my Ford trucks hat.
Dan O Neil - I'll have to try that clear gel stuff. Is it clear aloe gel or just regular hair gel?
Hi Mike,
It is just regular hair gel I was referring to. "Head" is a west coast (USA) brand, there are lots of them, which contain pretty natural stuff, which helps with smoothing the loose hairs, un-tangling your hair and such. Also, a good de-tangler spray after the gel can be the ticket. I have even used the stuff Johnson & Johnson make for baby hair "de-tangler", and it works a treat when you use a very WIDE toothed comb or WIDE brush to put your hair where you want it. Then, leave it alone to dry. Don't mess with it or comb it again. Presto, great hair, which is not crunchy or stiff, but stays in place, more or less.

I'm really happy for you! It's great you can work without having to chop off your mane. Your boss seems like a reasonable guy, wich is rare to find a reasonable nice boss nowadays.
I think you can use a bit of hairspray (not too much!) to keep your hair in place while it's in the akward stage.

Ya right now I'm usin this cheap green la looks gel. Makes my hair so stiff and crunchy, so I will try that clear gel to see how it works. It sucks because I recently started using a little tea tree oil on my scalp and hair after a shower, and it is amazing! My hair has been so silky and shiny, but apparently having hair in your face isn't professional. But hey, if havin crunchy hair a few days a week is what I have to do to keep my hair then I'm ok with that!

Since you're probably not going for any style awards, look for products that claim to hold really well. If you have friends who already use product, ask them for advice and try to score a sample to try.
Remember though - any junk you put in your hair will have to be washed out later.

Very good to hear - congrats!
You should be able to ponytail it neatly after about 12 to 13 inches of growth.
