I want to first say I am a quiet observer of both boards. I love long hair and I like short hair, too. I just like HAIR and what it does to a person's psyche.
I think the first thing to remember is that if you post a picture on the internet, you should willing to accept it is being used in ways you didn't intend. If you are not strong enough to accept this, don't post a picture for the whole world to see,
I think there are an equal amount of idiots on both boards, and I hope people are grown up enough to conduct themselved maturely.
Yes, who ever posted the flip intent of the pic was being childish, but what REAL harm did he do. Get over it.
In order to have free speech, you have to be TOLERANT.
We do not have the right to make people grow their hair long any more that they have to right to make us cut our hair short. If you can't get past that, then you are no better than them, and you have more problems than hair length,
Keep it growing, and don't fights.
100% agreed! You are a voice of reason!

I'd add that people are apt to take your picture on the street with the same result. Here in San Francisco tourists are hot for hippie shots, and I get photographed all the time. Yeah, it's a zoo and I'm part of the wildlife. :-)
Do I worry about it, or complain? Hell no. I take it as a compliment and tell 'em, "Go for it!" We both enjoy the encounter a lot more that way. I've learned what really makes 'em happy is peace signs.
As for people using my picture, I don't worry about it. If it comes back to me or one of my friends that it's used in an inappropriate way, I'd invoke my right to privacy to get them to stop. Otherwise, let them enjoy what they spent good money on film and developing to get!
Such nice hair. But how is it that your beard is so black when your hair is so blonde?
These photos are totally unrelated to the event where I got photographed, and they were taken a few months before - on Haight at the Haight Ashbury Street Fair. I was there though the day these two were taken, and I know this guy, so I can give the answer.
He lived in West Texas for most of his life. The sun is strong there and cloudy days are rare. His beard is only a few months old. His mane, particularly at the ends where you see it, has been exposed to the sun for several years!
If you look at the top of his head, where his hair is young, you will notice it is dark like his beard is.
Go to a mirror right now, guys. Take the tips of your mane and hold them up to your forehead. You will be surprised at the huge change in the color of your hair due to light exposure for all those years! Most longhairs never notice this because the change is gradual going down your mane. :-)
One more way long hair is cool! (And one more reason you should not dye your hair. It will look fake after that, and this is one reason why.)
Bill
...and a colourful part at that! :-)
Saul
Thank you Saul! We do our best to keep San Francisco colorful! This photo is an example of me getting photographed by someone I didn't know. I didn't even know they took the picture. It turned up on their web site. It was at a concert in Golden Gate Park right by the end of Haight Street last September:

The longhair in front of me is a long-time fixture in the Haight, a guy named Wavy Gravy. Behind Wavy's other shoulder is a longhair I sort of know, I think his name is Dove. The three of us made a great trio, all in colorful shirts, all with colorful cloth wrapped around our graying manes! No wonder the photographer went for that shot! Everybody asks who the longhair is with his finger in his mouth, and I don't know. My partner Larry is the guy in sunglasses.
Proof that you can be bald and have long hair, too!
You're never too old to be a hippy! By the way, why is he hiding his hair with the bandanna? Isn't that what the Sikhs do?
...
Thanks! I grew it myself! :-)
