This is not hair related but I think it deserves to be shared.
This morning I finished up the paperwork with the bank and as of today I took possesion of my first home!! :D
The house was built in 1926 and man is it built!! Stone foundation and the original oak trim inside. While it is older, the house has been well cared for and perserved. Needs some TLC in a few rooms but it's to be expected.
Merry Christmas to me lol!
Congrats on the house purchase. I bought mine 5 years ago or it
will be in March.
Now you'll have to do a hair update with the house as the back
ground.
Kevin
Congratulations Mike. It is fun living in an old house. Mine was built in 1927 and everything do on it is a challenge adapting to rough lumber. In the long run it fun updating. Tommie
Thanks Tommie and too Kevin! The overall structure of the house is solid as a rock. Raining Niagra Falls right now and the basement seems high and dry, so that's a relief. I'll be focusing mostly on the bathrooms and finishing the basement. New tile, lighting fixtures and paint for the bathrooms. Drywall, lights, paint and carpet in the basement. Too much on the list too type lol!
"I am not worthy" "I am not worthy" lol!
Congrats!
Be sure to update your electrical. Older wiring can be scary bad! I've had an outlet box go up in smoke due to failed insulation! Older wiring used natural rubber with a cloth wrap, and after 80 years, it's dry rotted.
If you have the old fuses, make sure the correct sizes are in place, it is very easy to place a 20 or 30 amp fuse for a 15 amp fuse.
Best wishes,
Mike
congrats on the house man, I purchased mine in 2006 it was built in 1886. the Realtor called it a handyman's fixer-upper in an up and coming neighborhood (translation: uninhabitable death trap in rough area) but you have to start somewhere.
the other Mike
Thanks Mike! Houses of all generations are going to need something, even newer construction homes need something done to them. The neighborhood is peaceful most of the time but unfortunately, some cars treat the road like it's a drag strip.(so to speak) Least I'm still in my hometown and I prefer it that way.
I started out living in a studio apartment(1 bedroom) upstairs in a duplex. Lived there for about 4 years till it was time for freedom and more space.
Great to hear that!
I've got one like that. Built in the 1890s, electrified in the 1920s, central heat in the 1960s. We moved in 20 years ago with a 15 year plan to fix it up. I think we're on year 4 or 5 now....
