Here's a scanned image of an advertisement that appeared in the sidebar of my Hotmail this morning. The obvious symbolism is that having long hair and/or a long beard is a sign of lacking education and/or a good-paying job.
*sigh* When will they learn?
That's the mad world of ad men for you!
When will they learn? Probably never! Sickening.
Popular culture products (including most of the commercials) are made to delude the semi-educated and dumb.
And while, on one hand, I can always console myself believing how gullible and immature our accusers are, on the other hand, my sense of pride is always wounded when a hoard of TV-brainwashed zombies and intellectual pygmies dares commenting my tastes and way of living. Call me a snob, but that's my self-respect for you.
Snob!
No, just kidding, I feel exactly the same way. It sucks that you can't show everybody how stupid they are, but atleast we can realize we aren't those people.
Actually, he looks like a fairly typical grad student to me. Perhaps the grant was even for an advanced CS degree, and he still looks as pictured. I think you could actually read this as positive or negative depending on your outlook.
That sounds about right. There are a lot of well-educated longhairs who're doing quite well for themselves. I've got a degree and a postgrad and run my own business, but if someone's aiming an advertising campaign at us longhairs, offering grants to enable us to spend more time in education, I'm all for it. I'd love to go back to uni and do another degree.
That's annoying...it's like all the long haired and long bearded men are hobos...when will the society understand?
Never, I guess.

I have been seeing that for about a week....couldn't quite catch "the point".
Some TV and print ads are so stupid it just makes you want to stop watching the tube and reading certain media.

I will take this as his more recent shot. Damn closed minded stereotypical people.
Same article here. funny, I think I know quite a number of longhairs who do quite well, even educated. I think we scare them LOL
Think of the photo as an after pic, when he got the education and the job.
Ah yes the usual if you have longhair and don't follow the heard you'll be poor and hopeless all your life.
They will never understand.
never ever.

That is a crappy advertisment, but what is more encouraging is that Troy Palamalu's (the NFL player for the Steelers) shampoo commercial is on TV all the time, and I think he is creating a very positive image of long hair for all us guys.
...he's an artist in Birmingham and makes about $500,000 a year. Hmmm, could it be.

However, I've now seen the same pic in online ads for home loans. Maybe it's a royalty free image. Perhaps a photo of Jesus taken at the time, so that the copyright has run out, LOL!
