As I posted in a thread some days ago, last week I got a trim wich I thought made me satisfied with my hair...well some days later I realized I wasn't satisfied at all, I was just TRYING to make myself satisfied..so yesterday I realized the best thing to do was getting a massive cut and start over, as I've been thinking for long time.
I'm back as a short hair, sadly. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to keep on growing it! I REALLY want my hair midback-chest lenght and no matter how much it'll take, I'm going to grow it. Where's the hurry? I'm almost 18, means in 3 years or so I'll reach my goal. I also intend to grow it without any trim for at least 2 years.
Now I can finally start my official hair journey. I consider this my REAL journey, from a short cut instead from a peacock styled Emo cut. Unlike many people, I didn't cut my hair cause I needed a change...I had no choice. I couldn't keep on growing my previous hair. As I mentioned, I orginally had an extreme asimmetric hairstyle. Going from that to a normal even style just can't work. Many little trims couldn't have help, it was really hacked off, missing pieces and all.
Plus, the back was very unhealthy due to extreme styling, dying and straigthening. My beard though hasn't been touched at all and it's getting longer month after month!
I hope no one is disappointed, I'm here to stay and to post updates every 2 months at least! Hope to receive the same support I received before. I hope I'm still welcome. :)
-Andrea
The style I had before I felt like growing out long hair.
(I had this style almost 1 year ago)
My current hair:
Hi Andrea,
Of course you are still welcome here as even though I'm disappointed that you went to a short haircut I can understand your reasoning.I feel you are a good kid at heart who only wants to achieve an appearance that your happy with. You are young and have ample time to become a longhair again:)Normally I wouldn't like what you done but you convinced me based on the style of cut you had a year ago.Strange cut with lots of dying, bad combo. So please do keep us posted as I know in the end you will have a beautiful mane my friend:)Keep the faith.
Hairball Mark
Thanks for the kind words, Mark!
It's not like i'm happy to have short hair again, I don't like this look so much, it makes me look young and different. But it's the only way to archieve my goal: midback! I'm sure that from this cut in 2-3 years i will reach my goal, with lots of patience.
-Andrea
Andrea, Of course it is your decision alone. Good luck with your new hair growing journey.
peace, jonalbear
Thanks! I'll be posting updates often. (Not every month since you cant really tell the difference after 1 month)
-Andrea
I respect your decision to want to get a fresh start after having put your hair through so much in it's previous life, and wish you the best of luck.
Thanks a lot, it really was the only thing to do.
-Andrea
Good luck with re-growing it out.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks, John! This time nothing will go wrong.
-Andrea
Hi Andrea!
Wow, thats a major change you've made.
I understand your feeling, cause i did the same a few years ago. Back when i was 15 or 16 i painted my hair black. It looked realy cool, but after months of growing, there cames a white/grey stripe in the middle of my scalp (outgrowth) and that was not cool :) I was not happy with that! My hair was not that long as you haved, a bit shorter. I decided to cut all the hair, from 15/20 centimeters to a milimetered head.
You where not sattisfied with your hair how it was, from dying and straigthening. But see it positive... now you have healthy hair than you can grow as long as you will.
You have my fully support to grow it back long :)
A little secret and tip for you, i did the same back then...
Take some Brewers Yeast, and MSM tablets, it will keep your hair healthy, and realy realy speed up the growing progress. Normally your hair grows 1 centimeter a month, you can achieve 1,5 or even 2 cm a month if you take MSM. I had 1.5 cm a month back then.
Good luck with growing back! Wish you the best, and keep us updated about your growth.
Greetz from the Netherlands,
Vincent89
Thanks, Vincent!
Yes, now my hair is fresh and healthy and it can be grown very long easily, with lot of patience and care.
-Andrea
Hope it stays the way you want it this time. Atleast you still have some hair up there, not buzzed or anything.
I didn't want to cut it too short because both me and my girlfriend hate buzzed cuts. But this is pretty short indeed, it's like a buzz done with scissors, wich is obiouvsly longer than a clipped buzz.
-Andrea
I like the beard!
The less you mess with your hair the better. Just leave it alone for a few years.
I like the beard as well, too bad my girlfriend hates it...
Of course, NO TRIMS FOR AT LEAST 2-3 YEARS.
-Andrea
"...last week I got a trim wich I thought made me satisfied with my hair...well some days later I realized I wasn't satisfied at all, I was just TRYING to make myself satisfied..so yesterday I realized the best thing to do was getting a massive cut and start over, as I've been thinking for long time."
Did it ever come to your mind the hairdresser secretly desired you to do so?
It did to me. WHENEVER I asked my haidresser to trim off my split ends, he would cut a chunk of up to 12 cm of length. After the last "trim" I'd got - which actually was a real unsparing haircut - I remembered a rule that hairdressers all want longhaired men to get back to short hair, one way or another.
This was just a minor warning. Otherwise, your decision was rather mature and brave, considering how demanding a journey from short to long hair is. I, for one, am not sure whether I would get down to re-growing my hair again after I had a very short cut now, as I've been starting over from short length for many times and it gradually became nerve-racking, rather than exciting like in the very beginning.
No no it's not the hairdresser's fault. He did exactly what i asked him, but it was impossible to fix my hair, it was missing pieces, litterally. And plus i got this cut in another hairsalon!
-Andrea
Andrea,
Perfectly understandable - no point trying to maintain, and keep putting "band aids" on, what was damaged beyond repair.
Will look forward to your "real" progress in the months ahead!
Beard is looking nice, too!
- Oren
That's right, Oren! It was the only thing to do. My hair not only was missing pieces, but it was also pretty strawy. Thanks, Oren! I love my beard but my girlfriend is really pissing me off recently, due to it......long story.
-Andrea
"I love my beard but my girlfriend is really pissing me off recently, due to it......long story."
If one is... imaginative enough, a guess can always emerge.
;-)
She hates beards and besides that her freaking' relatives wanna see me on Christmas and she's embarassed they'll see me with beard. -.-
-Andrea
Andrea, I think you're done with "girls". It's time for a real Woman!
- Oren
We've been together for 5 years, we really love eachother but the things she said recently really hurted me. I told her i want a chest lenght beard, if she acts like this now, what will she do when it'll be that long?!?
-Andrea
If she doesn't like beards, tell her not to grow one (the same goes for the family).
When she fell in love with the "you" as a person, whatever the outer package looks like and whether it changes or not should not matter, you are still the same person on the inside man.
Yes, I agree with Charlie, she fell in love with the inner you and the outer you shouldn't matter. It does, however take some time for her to adjust. I know because my wife married the short hair me but had to get used to the long hair me. She's still not 100%, but at least her protests are less.
Bruce
Lmao! So funny.
Paul
Uahahaha I told her that already, months ago XDDDD
-Andrea
Another pic, wich shows beard better.
I love my beard....
-Andrea
Grow the hair but lose the beard lol.
Good luck with your new journey. At least your new short style looks good on you. If I went that short I'd look 10 years old lol. For what its worth, I liked your peacock hair, but I can see how a cut and color job like that could cause growing problems.
Good luck again. We have the same ultimate goal of midback. I now have a little bit of a head start on you, but maybe we'll get there close to the same time :)
--D
That's good, man! I wish you good luck as well.
-Andrea
all good Andrea! a good decision to be honest, because lots of dying could damage the hair indeed as my friend did it and had to cut his long hair to restart the process, but you'll get to your goal in no time and have my support buddy! :)
Thanks, Mark! You've always been very supportive. :D Looking forward to your update!
-Andrea
Starting over fresh is sometimes a good idea.
We look forward to your progress pics.
Kevin
In this case, it sure was good and necessary. :)
Of course, I'll be posting the first one on the end of January or first days of February.
-Andrea
I'm disappointed to hear about the mane, but at least it helps accentuate that fluffy beard. NO trimming the beard! Oh, and now I can keep tabs on those ears to make sure you don't sneak up and pass me:)
I know, LMD, but it was the best thing to do! Sadly. :(
As I said, my girlfriend has seriously been bothering me to cut the beard recently...she's embarassed about her stupid family seeing me with it...but i WON'T cut it, no way.
-Andrea
Oh my. Now THAT'S truly a haircut. But as always in life, People do, what they do, when they want to do it.
Updates are fun however, and always have a way of getting comments one way or another.
I would have like to avoid it but I just couldn't, it was necessary. :)
I'll be posting updates.
-Andrea
I can sympathize with entirely Andrea. My hair is not perfect. I shed quite a bit and I think the short hairs may be taking over the long ones. Whats more the shorties don't grow in a straight line but curl and twist, sometimes sticking straight out. It's like I'm stuck in a continuous awkward stage! But I know if I were to start over at 54, my hair critics would jump right in and make it hard to grow it out again and in the end, my hair would be doing the same anyway. But you're young, you have good hair to grow, and you've got the damage gone. Just be mindful that the hair critics will intensify their efforts to discourage you from regrowing. Stay strong and be yourself.
I'll look forward to those updates of your new journey!
Bruce
Totally unnecessary, but if it makes you feel better I guess
that's what counts.
Not true, it wasn't unnecessary. As I said, my hair was missing pieces on sides. How do you solve that?
-Andrea
I hate giving up length if it can be avoided. When I had chunks
cut out on the sides (we won't go into how that happened) I just
let it grow. It did look strange for a few months but then the
cut pieces got long enough to blend in. To me that was better
than going all short and back through the awkward stage again.
Atleast I had long hair the whole time and with careful combing
most of the time it wasn't too bad. Now it is almost all the
same length.
I don't think my hair would have even out by itself in this case...it's hard to describe how it was, I never showed in pictures cause of the angles I took them and such.
-Andrea
This is a PS to my first message. Based on the pics you posted
I always thought your hair looked very good to me. Is it
possible you are over critical of your hair?
And the pic of you with your emo hair is very cool. But I
understand that is a very high maintenance style.
I am very critical but in this case I wasn't paranoid, the hair was really missing pieces, due to the "Emo" haircut I had before. Fringe was way longer than the rest, sides were choppy and shorter, back shorter...
-Andrea
Here's a thought -- Did you cut it past the point of which it was dyed? Not that you'd ever expect hearing someone tell you to do this on MLHH, but considering how short it is now, if there is still dye in it maybe you should get it buzzed. Since your plan was to start over from scratch, that would ensure that no dyed or damaged hair remains, thus wiping the slate totally clean.
Just an idea. :P
Best of luck with your journey either way.
Buzzed??!!! gag!!
The idea that you need to chop everything off or it affects the end result is crazy. Once he grows it out a bit, he may still need to trim to even out and that part of his hair will be on the trimmers floor.
Bruce
Yeah I guess he can just trim it. I figured he went this short though, might as well finish the job!! =P
Then he can just let his hair grow like the mighty oak.
I'd like to avoid trims for at least 2-3 years, Bruce!
-Andrea
My hair wasn't really damaged by the dye, the reason of the cut was the uneveness and missing pieces. This cut is ok to grow out. There might be like 1 cm of hair wich contains dye, it's hard to tell since my hair is naturally dark dark brown (almost black) and my dye was black. No need to buzz. And no trims for at least 2 years!
-Andrea
Uahah I agree, he might be from Buzzboard...
I don't see why I should buzz it, I was going to but then I realized even a short cut would be ok. This is like a buzz done without scissors...like 3 months from a buzz.
-Andrea
No I'm not from the Buzzboard, lol! Don't think my 10 inches worth of hair would go over too well there.
It was just a thought. If the whole point was to chop that hair almost completely off to start over, it seemed logical to make sure every centimeter of affected hair was removed.
Forget I said anything. =P
I appreciate your comment and suggestion, but I really didnt need a buzz since the dye didn't damage the whole hair, just the back. :) Now the dye is 99% done.
-Andrea
Cool beans, brother. May your regrowth efforts be swift and prosperous!
Thanks, man! And maybe you should post a pic of your hair as well, I'd like to see. :)
-Andrea
Great idea Andrea for him to post a pic!I would like to see the 10 inches of hair myself:)You know as the saying goes...Trust But Verify.
Mark
Funny how the conversation ends when we ask them to post a pic.
Kevin
Or maybe, you know, I have other things to do with my day besides sit in front of the computer and wait for replies? Christ you guys are petty.
Apparently "buzzcut" is a taboo word here and I crossed a line by simply mentioning it, but especially considering that I retracted the suggestion why the hell are you guys giving me so much shit? It's not like I haven't posted here before, look up my post history if you don't believe me.
I plan on posting a pic eventually but don't have access to a digital cam at this time, not to mention I'm not terribly happy with my hair and am retraining it and trying some things to improve it in the near term.
I'm sorry I violated the sacred rules of the MLHH brotherhood by suggesting Andrea buzz his already-almost-buzzed hair. But really guys, if I wanted to get this much crap for not even doing anything wrong I'd just go post on LHC. I thought y'all were classier than this.
Edward, I hope I didn't offend you by my reaction to the buzzcut thing. That was not my intention and I know you were just trying to help. It has been that in the past some members have gone skin bald (aagh) because they believe that somehow you'll get different hair growing out from the same old follicles. I was just saying that it isn't necessary to be that drastic.
I look forward to your update when you can.
Bruce
No worries, Bruce. I wasn't bothered by your reply and I understand your point clearly, which is why I agreed with you about just trimming.
The problem was that all of the sudden a bunch of people started jumping on me and accusing me of being basically an interloper from Buzzboard and accusing me of not even having long hair (!). And this was after I agreed about the trimming!
I really hate message boards sometimes because no matter what you say, it seems like people are always looking to attack you for it even if it's not offensive. I just didn't think the regulars here at MLHH were like that so it's rather frustrating.
Take care.
If you are a newcomer at a message board, use your name, include a photo of yourself, and put in a link to your web page, then people will see you as a real and full person and you will get almost no hassles. That has been my experience anyway. When people are confronted with "no information", they often fill in the blanks with "the worst". Yeah, we all know about the "innocent until proven guilty" bit, but that only applies in criminal court. Keep in mind that to many people in social encounters, secrecy=creepy. Don't blame MLHH or other web boards because this is not unique to the on line scene. It has applied forever on the street.
Bill
I hope I didn't offend you either, I appreciated your suggestion. I'll be looking forward your update.
I appreciated the suggestion and thanked you also, but as I explained, I didn't need the buzz.
Hope you'll stick in this board!
-Andrea
No, no offense taken. I'm not really offended or mad at anyone, just got a bit frustrated is all.
And trust me, I'll never mention the "B" word again! =P
OR! We've who have been at this a long time have seen a lot of BS and are less inclined to give breaks. Bill's comments below are excellent.
still no pic or intro?
Haha I'd like to see it not to make him prove he really has long hair, but just cause I'm curious! :)The board is always open to new members who post their manes' pics!
-Andrea
respect to you sir
i wish the best in growing it back
Thanks a lot, Dave!
-Andrea
Hey Andrea, you got to do what makes you happy with the hair. But I agree in a positive note about it, you'll be starting back with hair that hasn't been damaged by chemicals from the dye. It will be much healthier and look much better. Your beard is looking great. Hang in there and will talk to you later.
Wow! It definitely is a bummer that you got a haircut (I know that's a swear word on here).
Looking at your last update a couple days ago, I've gotta say your hair looked great. I didn't see anything wrong with it at all. But again, thats just a picture I suppose.
I just hope that you feel right about your decision, and I certainly hope you reach your goal!
I'm looking forward to your updates Andrea, and I hope this new hair journey is successful.
Good luck, and peace my friend.
Luke.
Thanks, Luke! Those pics I posted in my previous update didn't show the "holes" i had on the sides.
-Andrea
Well, I liked your hair and this is unexpected. Couldn't you have left just a little more? Lol.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear you're still going to grow it out.
I still support you and list you among my friends.
Paul
Thanks, Paul!
I tried, but it really was hacked!
I wish I took pics to show the "holes". My left side had a hole of missing hair about ear lenght. The back had similiar uneveness as well.
I left it alone for months (from May to December) hoping it would fix but it really didn't. You see what kind of cut I had before! (The Peacock)
Now it'll grow good. :)
-Andrea
Hey! this certainly comes unexpected, dude, thats what i call a haircut. I never got to see the mising parts or the irregular shape of your hair in your pictures, I myself tought it was amazing and when you dyed it black, i tought you were going for broke, but if it was beyond repair, there's no sense crying over spilled milk, and I applaud you for having the cogliones of starting over and chop something you obviously loved. keep those updates coming. we are all waiting impaciently...
Thanks a lot! It's true, I would have love to avoid cutting it so short but it was the only choice and even if it hurted me doing so, I did it, since now I'll grow it without trims or anything.
-Andrea
Even with some dyes and stuff, your hair have looked good, but if something is amiss with your hair, then sometimes starting over is a good idea, as you get fresh hair.
Here's something you could have done: just let the hair "recycle" itself, meaning as the hair grows out, trim the ends in equal increments, so for example, it grows out an inch per month, trim an inch off per month. You would not gain length during that time, but you would also not go back. It takes as long as shaving your head and starting over.
At least you have straight hair, since straight hair tends to grow the fastest. You are also young, so there is time. I suggest you don't dye your hair, perm it or alter it in any way, as it may damage your hair.
Matthew
Thanks for the suggestion, Matt! I actually went to the hairsalon to get a MEDIUM length cut, but they messed up so I told them to cut it even shorter. Plus the damage wasn't gone.
-Andrea
