Hope all you guys and girls are keeping well. This is my 22nd month of growing from a short hair cut. Now at 12 inches and still going strong.
Duncan
Duncan, Looking good.
Hope your planning to grow the beard out a bit. Would look great a bit longer!
peace, jonalbear
Hi Jonalbear,
Yes I'm back to growing my beard out. It grows really fast and is very thick, however I prefer to keep it trimmed short and tidy due to having hassles with things that used to get stuck in it when it went uncut for 6 months once.
Your own fur growth is rocking and rolling along nicely.
Best,
Duncan
Duncan;
Well you certainly have outpaced the furry fellow on your shirt !
Looking great !!
Walter
Hi Walter the Grizzled Old timer Desert Rat,
Yes there's some great natural blossoming treasure potentials growing out of some scalps.
I'm hoping to put the furry fellow on the rear of t-shirt to bed out of sight within the next 12 months of growing.
All the best to you for 2010,
Duncan
...a new title ! Yeah !
I have been working in the field for the past 6 weeks....really grizzled right now....I should try to post a photo of the desert rat in natural habitat ! Ha !
Thanks for the "compliment"
Walter
Such a cool shirt you got there, Duncan!
I was wondering, did you get any trim since you started to grow your hair out?
-Andrea
Hi again Andrea,
Yes I did get two mini trims in the last 12 months. On the average I trimmed about a half inch each time from hair every 6 months or so to keep the split ends at bay and also to make it look more tidy and less jagged. So about an inch is trimmed off every 12 months which isn't too excessive. Now that's it's longer it is easier to just trim the individual hairs on the Search and Destroy Missions. I found the worst area for split ends were the annoying front bangs where the hair would get in my mouth and get a bit frayed.
Yes the t-shirt is a nice one of a native Australian Wombat. I used it for comparision and progress pic shots while growing the hair out. I'm hoping in the 12 months the little critter on the back of the shirt will be entirely swallowed up under the mane of hair on the back and out of sight.
Duncan
wow Duncan your looking great man! your hair has come a long ways and now that your at about the 2 year mark your hair is def long now and will only get better with months and years to come! congrads :)
Thanks Mark for the encouragement and I definately looking forward to seeing your 3 year hair milestone progress my friend - and keep making those youtube videos, their great!
Duncan
Looking good man, keep it growing to be sure, looks like you are going at a pace of slightly above .5 inches a month which is perfectly normal.

Hi Ryan, It's sure nice to know at least a part of me is normal. Have a good one,
Duncan
My, your hair sure grew a lot!
It's looking great, very healthy and nice. Did you get it chemically straigthened again? I remember you did a couple of times, to deal the akward stage better.
I see you shaved your beard, too bad, I think it looked good!
-Andrea
Hi Andrea,
Yes I do plead guilty to using the Japanese Hair straightening method of which I had it done again about 2 weeks ago. I find it works well for me with little minimal damage to the hair. I just hate puffy hair which is harder to keep neat. As for the beard bit the good news is that I am growing it back and what you see is 3 days worth of growth. After having a beard for 95% of the time for close to 5 years I decided to have a little holiday with being clean shaven for a month or so, but do agree with you that the beard looks better. Just hated having to shave daily and looking at my ugly mug in the mirror LOL!
Have a good one,
Duncan
That's good, Duncan! But doesn't that Japanese straigthening damage hair? Your hair really looks very healthy. I heard of people who got it done and regretted it cause it really ruined their hair.
-Andrea
Japanese straightening can damage the hair but it depends on various factors. I did quite a bit of research of the pros and cons of this method before taking the plunge. I got mine done by a hairdresser with over 5 years experience who knew what she was doing. Another factor is that hair that is virgin like mine (ie never been dyed or processed) works a lot better. Disasters more likely occur in hair that has been permed or dyed in the past. The method I used is apparently one of the better ones and hence is a lot less damaging then some of the others. My hair texture is fine and so I only need a mild relaxer applied to my hair. In 18 months the Hair is still in very good shape indeed plus I take extra special care of it because the process does make it a bit more fragile afterwards but plenty of conditioner used keeps it in good shape.
Good luck on regrowing your hair without the hair dye.
Duncan
Hi Duncan.Your hair looks silky smooth as you must be pleased with the results so far:)Keep doing what your doing as its working like a charm my friend.Great pics!!
Mark
Hi Mark,
Yes I've been making an effort to give my hair all the TLC that it can handle. And to be extra gentle with it. Natural organic shampoos and pampering galore is the receipe for making it work like a snake charmer !
Have a good one.
your friend, Duncan
Well, your sure look like a longhair now! Very nice.
Paul
Hi Paul, Yes it's great to now be just about out of that awful character building awkward stage now and be able to at long last to fully do a p-tail at the back.
I hope to grow it to at least mid-back to waist length in time.
All the best to you,
Duncan
Duncan, Your hair looks awesome! great progress!
peace, jonalbear
Thanks Jonalbear - and your own hair is looking as awesome as ever too ! Your got a great natural insulation coat, for your incoming American winter. An inspiration to the newer longhairs here
I hope to have hair as long as yours one day if I'm lucky.
Best,
Duncan
Looking really nice Duncan! Great progress for just shy of two years.
- Oren
Hi Oren, Thanks for the encouragement and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your 66 month progress update recently too.
Best wishes to you my friend for 2010,
Duncan
Your making great progress and your growth rate
is right on the mark.
Kevin
Hope all you guys and girls are keeping well. This is my 22nd month of growing from a short hair cut. Now at 12 inches and still going strong.
Thanks Kevin, It's great to be out of the awkward stage now
All the best for a good 2010
Duncan
The hair looks great Duncan, keep it growing!
Keep growing the beard as well.
Think in the future, how long your hair will be over a year, or two!
Great progress.
Hi Vincent,
Yeah it will be great to have hair at twice the current length of 12 inches to 24 inches (or 2 foot) Just think only another 2 years away! LOL! I'll be happy to settle for 18 inches.
Have a good one for 2010.
Duncan
Hi Duncan,
Thank you for sharing your outstanding update with us! Your hair is shiny and healthy, and you are making great progress!
Keep it growing,
David
Hi David,
Yes this year has been an eye-opening year as I now fit officially Bill's definition of what a "longhair" is - ie a man whose hair falls onto their shoulders. The second year of growth has been easier then the first 12 months. It's great to have finally arrived. Hope you and Tammy are well, and all the best to you and yours for the coming new decade of the 2010's!
Your own hair is looking great too!
Best wishes,
Duncan
Perfect, great progress Duncan!
Bruce
Thanks for the great encouragement Bruce. I am liking my hair more and more as it grows longer. Growing healthy hair motivated me to stay off alcohol 15 monhts ago and only eat natural foods as I wanted to get the best healthiest shiniest head of hair. So growing the hair out is actually a motivation to healthier habits.
Hope you are staying well, and all the best to you and yours for an exciting new decade ahead in the 2010's!
Kind regards,
Duncan
Hi Duncan. Your hair is looking good and reasonable length in almost two years/ Straight hair generally produce fast length.
Matthew
Hi Matthew, Yes that truth is self-evident. Just glad to now be past that "danger zone" where the hair was then at it's most vulnerable where it could break off more easily a few inches past the neck.
I have always admired your own hair progress and do look forward to seeing your growth at the 36 month mark.
This coming decade will be an important time for your future and I hope you achieve great things in your work and personal life in the coming 2010's decade.
All the best to you my friend,
Kind Regards - Duncan Q
Your hair looks awesome Duncan... keep up the great work. I can't wait to get to that point, I'm only a few months out.
Kenny
Hi Kenny,
Every journey starts off seemingly slow. If you get through the first 12 months the second year goes much quicker.
Give it another 9 months of hair growth for you and the worst of the awkward stage will be behind :) And Thanks for your encouragement and I look forward to seeing how your own hairy progress pans out in the coming months and years...???
Best,
Duncan

Your hair is looking great, Duncan. Do keep it growing.
Scott
Thank you Scott for inspiring me and countless others who are growing longer hair and also always being there with wise and sage advice.
I hope you have a great 2010 ahead.
Kind Wishes,
Duncan
Looks great Duncan. Doing well here, thanks.
Hello Charlie, Thanks for the encouragement. We are both at a similar stage on our hair journeys and I always look forward to seeing your latest updates.
Have a great Xmas and even better 2010.
Kind regards,
Duncan
Agreed, we're about on similar time frames here. Been meaning to get the camera out again and do an update, have been doing monthlies, thinking I might wait til New years for a 2 monther, so will see. You have a great Yule season and Holiday as well Duncan.
That looks awesome Duncan, it's very much how I want mine to look when I reach around the same time (currently 6 months and going strong).
Seeing your pic just give me that little bit extra motivation to get through the 'awkward stage'. Great stuff!
Hi Fugitive,
We all have to put in the hard yards to get to our dream goals -
In another 6 months time I would think the worst of the awkward stage would be over for you, and the 2nd year of hair growing will be a lot easier then the 1st year as by then you could probably comfortably keep the front bangs behind your ears or in a half ponytail. Hang in there Fugitive, and I hope to see your progress when you reach your 1st year milestone!
Have a warm Xmas and even better new year in 2010.
Best,
Duncan
