Yesterday I came across an interesting link, which is a video :
Aubrey de Grey says we can avoid aging
Beyond the fact that the guy has amazing (but greasy) long hair, and long beard (both are not so common for a scientist. Or maybe yes...), his argumentation is very well lead, even if it's difficult to believe all what he says. The thing that "annoys" me a bit is that de Grey looks already very old (he's only 46 but look at his eyes) and stressed attitude in the video, while you could have thought the opposite.
Hi Vivien,
I started watching the vid but due to its length I had to stop since I need to head out for work but his hair and beard are quite amazing:)I agree for a guy being only 46 he does look a bit worse for wear and he is very fidgety onstage to the point he is making me nervous.lol.When I get home later on I'll watch the whole thing to hear him out on his topic unless he keeps driving me crazy with his body language. Thanks also for the clickable link:)Cheers my friend

I'm a member of a group called the Calorie Restriction Society http://www.crsociety.org/Home .Aubrey is well known on that group.Typical eccentric scientist.Long hair is not so unusual among scientists. http://improbable.com/projects/hair/hair-club-top.html

Thank you Vivien for posting this.
My own thought:
Don't think about aging or try to analize every little thing. Retain a sense of humor. Always be able to poke fun at yourself anytime and laugh about it. DON'T TRY TO ACT LIKE THE REST OF SOCIETY! Enjoy conversations with children. (They can be far more intelligent then the college educated idiots who have had everything bred-out of them.) Walk to the beat of your own drum. DO NOT START LOOKING FOR THE CHILD WITHIN. Just be yourself. NEVER retain any anger or harbor a grudge, for it will only eat you up inside.

(AKA "The Fossile!") LOL :-)
Wise words, Justin. I share this point of view, although I'm still so young :)

Hey Vivien
You may be young in years, but your intelligence level is that of one who has lived a lifetime already. :-)
Justin~
He won't live any longer. He'll just think that he did because he talks so fast.
True enough ! I was very difficult to understand him !
He is talking about defeating the process of aging.
To me, that is very different from immortality.
You can not age but still die.
I'm not too sure if it is possible to reverse aging. I'm more sure, as he said, to slow it down.
As for immortality. I believe we can overcome death. One day. I'm sure we will.
No, for sure it's not immortality you're right. But, maybe he says that in the video, I don't remember, de Grey claims that the first man to live 1000 years (!) is probably already born.
By the way, the death is often caused by 'things' which directly result from the aging process. Also, the external appearance doesn't count, it's obviously more the internal state of the body.
I'm not sure to want immortality...
Bye
Vivien
Cool! I have been aware of Aubrey de Grey's research.
He and I are pretty close in age - I'll turn 46 this coming February.

Maybe he'll only share this with other longhairs.
Finally, we can take over the world!
I'd like New England.
