Ok, perhaps I've always been led to believe that hair that doesn't look even at the end, needs to be even'd up to 'look nice'. Then I heard about this concept called "fairytale ends" which claims that uneven ends are indeed that.
So I am at an impasse.
A part of me knows that, if I keep evening it out, eventually it will be uneven again (because hairs grow at different rates), and it will be an ongoing cycle, thus preventing hair from really growing.
So unless, it becomes really visible, I think I will stick it out and look like The Princess Bride...LOL
I've attached a few pics I took today:
In this pic, you can see that the right side tends to be a bit shorter
Yet this angle, not so much:
Ofcourse it can also be the way the hair just dries up or something.

Here's a side pic. I need a wind machine and a staff, and I'll be set to part the seas :)

sorry for the blurriness. I hate it when I take what seems to be a very good pic and it's blurry! :(
Meant to say:
I like the fairytale ends and natural layers look better. But I don't like anything too even or neat or clean, so thats not surprising. It just looks more natural and more interesting that a plain ol' straight line.

Your hair looks thick right to the ends, Alexander. Generally fairy tale ends are thin and wispy. You will probably need to grow at least another foot of length to have fairy tale ends.
I will include a photo of fairy tale ends, so you can see what they look like. Take a good look at the woman on the left.

Great update !
You have really reached quite a length with a wonderful color. Ends look fine to me....I wouldn't change a thing.
Glad to see the facial hair is back...it suits you well.
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
In my honest opinion your hair looks great and does not need any evening up, yes the right side does look a bit less thick then the left side (less hairs grew long on that side), but it is barely noticeable. No one will ever notice unless they have time to scrutinize your hair while you stand still (like in a picture lol!). Plus as you mentioned, evening it up will only temporarily fix the problem, and then soon enough it will be uneven again and you will be tempted to visit the barber again, oh no.
I agree with Ryan. The wind will move around your hair. Gravity will move around your hair as you move around. Your hair will slightly snag itself on your shoulders or other clothing on one side or the other. All these situations result in people seeing your hair strands all the time not perfectly ending the same number of millimeters from the floor. And if you trim it, they still will.

Sir Alexander the wonderful Poet!
That mane and beard are looking just great!
Sometimes trying to make long hair look a certain way is like taking a butter knife to the sky and carving a cloud into a certain shape. Before long the cloud has shifted and changed and doesn't look like what you planned anymore.
Just relax and enjoy the look of the moment!

A beautiful analogy Oren, I am going to remember that one for a while.
Hello ATP,
Very difficult to maintain even ends without regular triming - as the others said hair moves around a lot on the head so yours still looks OK and more importantly appears devoid of split ends. I think your hair and it's ends look great from where I'm looking.
Duncan
I agree. I wouldn't change a thing. It looks great!
As an aside, one of my inspirations to grow my hair long came back in about 4th Grade. There was a kid in 5th Grade I think who had hair to about the middle of his back, and it had been trimmed straight across, and I mean STRAIGHT! I thought it looked terrific. I wanted hair exactly like his.
The ends look ok to me. That is if I saw you walking down the street I wouldn't immediately think,"Man that dudes hair is uneven"
Very difficult to tell its uneven if it is ATP, looks superb to me :-)

Beautiful hair. Now this is the length I want. I envy you. I hope mine with make it to look like yours. Tommie
Hey ATP.
Your hair looks incredible. If it's uneven, I can't tell. Your mane is one of the best on this board.
Del
According to posts in other forums you were going to trim the length...if it's that uneven get the scissors out!
Simple solution! I wondered if Walt knew or it's another Buena Vista production!
Cheers,
John.B
Walt would tell you, of course, how every fairytale ends...
"And they all lived happily ever after!"
...sorry, I couldn't resist.
Bill
Good point Bill and he is now pushing up the daisies!
Actually, Walt had himself frozen, which probably was NOT what gave them the idea to name their traveling skating show "Disney on Ice".
Bill
Lol! You guys are a hoot.
Wonder if Alexander is going to use that stuff in his act?
Paul
I think your hair looks great as it is. I have had my hair cut straight across before and didn't really like it. It didn't look natural to me.
I can't really tell that your hair is uneven. I wouldn't have noticed it if you didn't point it out. I think you should leave it just like it is.
It looks pretty even to me. Mine is nowhere near that straight across. I wouldn't touch it.
Paul
I think it looks great, mine seems that way to me as well, but I guess we all see fault with ourselves moreso than others do.
Looks like these pics have been over the river and through the woods but look great just the same.I'd leave it alone and not mess with success.Cheers
Looks perfect as is, don't touch a thing, hair and beard!
Bruce
To be honest, I thought the first picture was after a hair cut to even out the ends. I think your ends look good!
On behalf of ATP I wish to thank everybody for their responses.and encouragement. It's that level of participation
that makes MLHH a great community.

Good to see people are proactive here! Hope Walt's doing well!
