Hello Everyone,
Here is a story about a Kindergarten kid, in Texas who was booted out of class for having long hair.
The interesting part is the comments posted by readers, and the poll says 67% think the rules are outrageous.
Georges.
Msnbc story about 4 year old suspended for long hair in Kindergarten
Just once again proves what a shambles some parts of the school system really are. I bet it's one rule for girls and one rule for boys.
We've seen the sterling effort that Paul in Alabama has done and so far the school down in his part of the world are not being so fussy like in TX. I've always wondered if TX wanted it's own soverenty like in the past lol!
Cheers,
John.B
It always seems to be Texas that is the worst for this!
It must be that big flag they have!
wow is ridiculous what do they think there going to achive with this, i agree with the parents 100% no school or anyone for that matter has any right to do that! unbelivable!.
I saw this on Fox News this morning. The kid looked real cute with his long hair. The news host even admitted that his hair looked good. Tommie
This is, for lack of a better term, stupid. Some schools these days are less concerned with actual education than picking a fight over ridiculous things like this. It'd be nice to see the parents sue the district for discrimination or something.

I think it's insane Georges. I don't have a problem with dress codes, but I have a problem with hair codes or rules, if you will. You can take your tie and shoes off at night but you can put your hair back on!! These schools are mandating how kids are "groomed" even in the off hours and weekends. This is an intrusion on the kids and parents basic freedoms!

Thanks for the video link, Bruce! Too bad the mom didn't come across all that articulate or convincing during her TV opportunity, though --- maybe she was just a bit nervous or something. I'm not trying to be critical about her, just commenting on the fact that she didn't interview very well. There's so much that she COULD have said in defense of her case that she didn't say, that it surprised me how little she talked at all on the topic... Oh, well, I at least applaud her bravery to be willing to speak on TV in the first place!
Texas is such a weird planet... Is it really a part of Earth still --- or, so very far-out into its own little orbit now that it has genuinely spun out-of-control, and currently proving itself to be honestly as "alien" as Mars is now (LOL)??

Hi Ken,
I agree as the mom was not supporting her position well at all.She had a golden opportunity being on TV to blast the school system and to tell the viewers what a ridiculous and discriminatory policy this school had.Its rare to be hooked up to the masses like that to state your outrage. To bad,she missed her chance:(
Mark
Hi Mark,
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed her lack of passionate response, as well as inability to articulate much of ANYthing in her defense on this hair issue. Her answers to the questions asked during her interview were "mediocre", at best. Still, I have to at least applaud her willingness to stand up for her son's right to not cut his hair. Maybe if the father of this boy were interviewed, his response might be more convincing than hers, who knows. Of course, then again: WHY should ANYBODY have to "defend' the right to grow one's own hair as they wish?
Some day I hope that society, including Texas, will clearly view this "issue" as a total NON issue. It's so ridiculous, that it only deserves to be laughed at... Unfortunately, though, for those who live in such ass-backwards places, their fight for their rights to grow their own hair is still very much a real ordeal.
Catch you later, Mark! Off to work now....
Long Lox 4ever,
Ken
Hi Ken,
Perhaps they are living back in the 1836-1845 days when it was a republic and they had more land. I wonder if they had a big flag then and only 1 star and not even gold!
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks for letting us all know about that Georges.
Now don't tell me that I'm the only one here who signed up (it's free) to post a reply.
I posted my (our) petition along with what I think about the situation. Although most do think it's a stupid rule there are some very STUPID comments. Longhairs are refereed to as gay, homeless, drug dealers, among other things.
I responded to one idiot with this;
"Dope dealer? Homeless? What cave have you been hiding in? Bin Laden's?
...
If you saw me on the street what would you say? Something bad about my hair right? That's prejudice. Would you tell me I'm doing a good job raising my kids? Probably not, all you'd see is the hair. No, in reality you'd just give me a dirty look as you passed. I'd notice it and try to ignore you for being small minded."
Come on people let these people know how you feel. Those parents need to hear it.
Paul
Hey! n/t means no text
Paul
Longhair promotes fleas BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Yeah, and we shed! Everywhere!

Gee wiz another one of them stories.Sounds like this is starting to catch on as the next thing they'll require are armbands on the kids uniforms!Talk about a petty issue for this district to be focusing on.At least they didn't place him in solitary....yet!
Mark
Sounds like a school policy that exists on a scratchy 1950's era 16mm black & white movie reel, and played though a 1960's 16mm projector. Crackling out of a 3 inch speaker, complete with "Leave It To Beaver" like background music.
- Oren
I'd say you have summed that up to a t.
Do they have big flags over there in that state. I'm surprised they don't want their own devolution!
Public schools should have a duty to educate everyone who shows up. Oh, hang on a minute, they do.
I would have no problem even if the dress code included requiring clown suits and red noses, but the minute it includes haircuts it intrudes into the student's free time, which is unacceptable to me.
This is what happens when hick school boards get to set their own rules. Given half a chance, they would make the black and white kids go to different schools. Oh, wait, they already did that. Good job they were stopped. If only we could stop this too.
This doesn't do state of Texas much good with a stupid antiquated hair nazi attitude like that! In Australia there is no restriction whatsoever on hair length in Australian schools from kindergarten through to high school except in the private religious school system.
Last I looked the hair poll showed 70% plus who think the hair rules sucks.
As for long hair being distracting - to whom? And what about girls in the classroom?
Thanks for sharing,
Duncan
Amazing story, Georges -- thanks for sharing it! I filled out the poll, as well as made some comments of my own (assuming I did everything correctly on their form that I had to fill out).... I can't believe how backwards they are down in Texas. Maybe they even WALK backwards down there, who knows!!
In any case, I applaud both the boy and his parents. I hope someday to never have to read about such an idiot school board as this; but then again, there are still dark & ignorant parts of the world that continually surprise me with their stupidity!

Well.....for millenia the world has been full of stupid narrow minded people.
Makes you wonder how we ever managed our way out of the dark ages.
Kevin
Let me see if I got the correct...
1) Individuality does not conform... We are The Borg... resistence is futile.
2) Hair Borg run the school system
3) They make the kids now wear uniforms to look alike, now are they going to make girls have short hair as well? Can't be playing favorites.
4) Can't have short haired kids like the long haired kids manes and want to try it for themselves now can we?
Did that about cover it? I could be wrong.
This quote enrages me on so many levels: "So Taylor again Wednesday found himself facing in-school suspension, sitting in a library with a teacher's aide while his friends played and learned together in a classroom."
Essentially, any school adminstrator who makes a decision like this has got to be a delusional, heartless bastard. Basically, this little four year old is getting the message that he is an outcast, and he will remember this forever. He is being himself and not doing anything wrong yet being punished for it. It is sad to say that this too often happens in all sorts of settings and accounts for the reason many people get emotionally scarred and draw back into themselves rather than displaying thier creativity and intelligence for the rest of the world. The school is doing the exact opposite of what it should be doing, fostering a positive learning environment. It's sade when administrators take out their own frustrations on the helpless. But the oppressed often become the oppressors. Treating others like you would like to be treated is so much more of a triumph of real character than treating others as you are or were treated.
I have been having arguments over on the Long Hair Community with women who think my comments on this story are an attack on Texas and Texans. All I said was that most of these cases occur in Texas, and that I couldn't be induced to live there. I have a long haired son of school age (16). Can you imagine what might happen if we moved there? I can, and it ain't pretty!
