Hey everyone!
I know I haven't visited this forum in.. 6 months now! And so it's time for a little update to let everyone know I'm fine etc.
I've been up to a lot in the past 6 months that's for sure.
I'm about 29 months along in hair growth. Since I started growing my hair it's been cut a total of 3 times. The first time, 5th November 2007, was a trim which I falsely believed would improve hair growth and health (I was only 3 months into growing:- my hair was as healthy as could be!). Unfortunately my hair was cut in a way that the back was really short but the top and sides were the longest. As my hair grew out it increasingly looked like an upside-down pyramid but I managed to shrug it off.
The second cut was 13th March 2009. My ends were damaged and split for the last 3 inches, but my sister (Who cut my hair) chopped off 3 inches from the back, but didnt touch the sides or front. The front wasn't long enough to merge with the back length so it looked like a two-layer hairstyle, which looked awful; half my hair was one length and the other half was another length! ... So I continued growing it out, ignoring the fact that it probably looked awful when I left it down in public.
The third cut was 30th October 2009. My friend's mother visited and she told me she cuts her family's hair and we're quite close so I told her exactly how I wanted my hair = natural layers. Which is how I wanted it to grow out before the first hairdresser screwed it up. So my friend's mother cut off about 4 inches off the front of my hair (to my chin) and gradually cut the rest of my hair a bit longer, but didn't touch the back.
It looks much better now. I'm really happy with the shape of it! The length..meh.. Way too short. But I've learnt my lesson; I'm done with cutting for a while. I take good care of my hair and now most of previous chemical dye damage has been cut off so it should be easier taking care of it from now.
OK, after all that essay. Here's what I look like nowadays.

I'm sorry the top of my head is cut off here. 3 inches of my roots are my natural colour (which you can't see).. it's an ash-blonde-into-mousy brown colour. The rest of my hair has been hennaed twice and henna with indigo done once. I'm growing out my natural colour now because I'm curious what it will look like long.
Tell me what you think, everyone. My growing goal is classic length. I don't take monthly photos or measuring like I used to though. Just forgetting about my hair for months on end and then comparing photos, which works fine really :).
Keep it up everyone, you have amazing progress, all of you!
Shawn
Hey Shawn at about 2 1/2 years growth of curly hair that is long! very nice curls and its evening out as it gets longer and it suits you very well my friend :)
Looking great considering how curly it and all the cuts you've had! I thought my hair grew quickly but I'd have to say yours just tops that a bit.
And good luck with growing out your natural colour, personally I'm a big fan of blonde-ish curls.
Happy growing!
dude that is some awesome hair keep it growing :P
thanks for the post
Hi Shawn. Your hair has so much curls. I just can't get enough of those curls. There is one guy at my game testing job who has the same magnitude of curliness, although his hair is much shorter. By the way, after you told the stories about trimming, it comes down to one simple fact: trimming is not such a good idea when trying to grow out one's hair, since it actually makes one's hair messier. I know it is more difficult growing out curly hair, and it takes longer, but just stick with it and it will come out great. Nonetheless, the longer your hair becomes, the more curls it will have.

Looks just great, Shawn!
Time and patience with very curly hair pays off in the long run. You're a fine example of this!

You know what? You look proud it that pic, and you should be.

Shawn,
Glorious curls, beautiful color, nice length.
As Paul stated, a mane to be proud of!
Keep it growin' and flowin'!
peace, jonalbear
Hello Shawn,
That's wonderful progress with growing out the curly hair and I think the awkward stage is well and trully behind you now. Do keep it growing longer and when it reaches to the waist will look very awesome indeed :)
Have a great 2010.

Hi Shawn,
It is great to see you posting again, and thank you for sharing your update with us. Your curls are truly outstanding, and I cannot get over how thick your hair is. Although growing long, curly hair can be frustrating, the rewards are well worth it!
Keep it growing,
David
Looks great, and the curls are just awesome!
Hi Shawn,
Long time no see glad you stopped by and even happier to see your mane is really come a long way. You have the right idea about just forget about the hair and 6 months later you notice "oh yeah it's gotten a lot longer"

Hey shawn...
I'm new to the site, just starting to grow my hair a little over 4 months ago. Your hair is wonderful, I love the curls and texture of your hair. My hair right now is only a couple of inches, however it is wavy and thick... I love for it to look like yours!
Keep up the great growth,
Kenny
Very cool photo, I really like the look of the curly mane. Enjoy and have a good holiday.
