Knotty Boy How to Make Dreadlocks - Part 1
Hope this can be useful to you.
Good luck!
Bruce
As a dreadhead of some years (I started posting at KnottyLocks instead of here in 2004), I would kindly request that you not post "info" that you are not personally familiar with.
Knotty Boy is a company, who's first goal like every company, is to make money. The number one product they sell is dread-wax. Wax in the dreadlocks NEVER comes out completely (think if you melted wax into a sponge), and can attract/trap dirt and moisture, and makes for a more mold-conducive environment.
Dreadlocks are formed by innumerable knots. Knots are caused by movement, whereas wax "cements" the hair together, preventing actual locking.
The technique most commonly taught for making dreadlocks is back-combing (Knotty Boy's instructions are for backcombing), but dreadlocks can be formed in other less damaging ways.
Not to come off as know-it-all, but we deal with lots of folks on the dreadlock forums who ask about how to deal with having wax in their hair, and how to repair their locks/remove wax.

What about dreadheadhq? They sell dread wax along with other products. Would you recommend staying away from them too? I read and watched everything they have but hearing from somebody who isn't trying to sell me something obviously means alot more.
As you can see by the avatar I don't have dreads but have decided that I want them.
Peace,
~Jarvis~
Good to hear from the expert! I would hate to be the messenger of misinformation. They do have a very slick "informational video" that draws you in like "moths to the flame". Of course you don't need wax to form dreads! I should have known that! My hair starts to dread on it's own, and I'm not even trying!
