I had mid-back length hair and I loved it. I then when through many life changes and felt the need to cut my hair. I am now in my mid-twenties and attempting to re-grow my hair (six months in). The only problem is that I am losing my hair early on. It is not very noticeable right now, but I am developing a widow's peak and I am thinning a bit on top. I was at a barber a year ago, and apparently the difference in thickness of my hair top vs side is, when up close and personal, very apparent.
So, my question is, does any one else have any experience with this? I'm debating if I should just give up or if I should keep going.

Why do you think Walter (Whitetail) always wears a hat in pictures? There's nothing wrong with being bald AND having long hair at the same time, IMHO.
The question is, whether to treat your hair loss, e.g. with minoxodil. The best time to start is as early as possible, I'm told. OTOH, all men lose hair around the temples, but I'm afaraid if you're under 30 and already have a widow's peak then keeping a full head of hair will need a little help.
So now you have two decisions to make, not just whether to acarry on growing out your hair, but also whether to get treated for hair loss.
I'm bald and what's left reaches my mid-back. I always wear it in a tail when I'm out of the house. I notice more and more guys in my town with the same. I've talked with a couple of them, and we think the same. We like our long hair and if the top crapped-out, well it's no reason not to enjoy what's left.
Oh, and wear hats. Especially if it's cold or sunny. Sunburned scalp is just about the worst you can imagine. I'm a cyclist, and I have to wear a cycling skullcap under my helmet to prevent leopard spots.
Both my brother's went bald and so was my dad. Everyday I knock on wood but you know what? If it did start to fall out I would continue growing it and I think it's damn good that you do.
It's also great to hear that you discuss "hair" with other longhairs. So many are way too cautious. It's like some big "taboo" or something.
Keep it growing.

Yeah, well it's a lot easier when I can start by saying, "Damn. I'm glad I'm not the only bald guy with a ponytail around here."
I almost never grew my hair out (something I always wanted to do ever since I was a kid, because my dad would not allow it in his household, as well as my first jobs I had as a young adult would not allow long hair, either), simply because of being self-conscious about having a receding hairline once I could first grow my hair out. Then one day I met a bald man who was so profoundly and completely bald that both in front and on top of his head had no hair growing on it whatsoever -- but, what hair he did have went all the way down almost to his KNEES... and he looked AWESOME!!!!!!!!
I have never seriously worried about my receding hairline ever again since.
I hope my narrating that story helps you with making your decision!
