I've lurked here for some time, but never posted because I didn't know if I would lose interest or forget about the site or what have you. Anyway, I find myself coming back to it near daily, so I figured what the hell. In high school, some 15 or so yrs ago, I had pretty long hair. A 9-12 in ponytail easy! I cut it after growing it for about 2 yrs and sported the "uncle jessie" look haha. For the past 10 yrs I've been wearing extremely short, shaved with a #2 and faded around the back & sides. I've wanted to grow it long again for about 2 yrs now with an attempt or 2, but dreaded the daunting task of actually doing it! Being patient is easier said than done for me. I'm a spontaneous person who loves variety & change. Anyway, I made the decision to just do it and haven't had any kind of cut since very early July. I look like an idiot (but I love it) haha. Ppl just see & comment on the monstrosity they see now, but I see the end result! My goal is mid-back! July 10 '09 was my last cut and I have 3 1/2 inches (ill post a pic soon). It grows kinda fast, but its "spurty" for lack of a better term. It'll seem like its doing nothing, then shoot out an inch & a half haha! I'm a little frustrated cuz I don't particularly enjoy looking like a douche, but I absolutely refuse to cut it! The "get your hair cut, you would look hot again" comments don't bother me in the least. What frustrates me, is my hairs not there yet!! Lol Well, just wanted to say hey, and ill post again! (Won't be as long though haha)
Yep, might as well post something, you're here everyday anyway! :-) Welcome to the hyperboard, JayKuz.
Sounds like it might be a bumpy ride but if you stick it out they'll be thinking you're "hot again" in no time.
Just keep refusing to cut it and that spurty look will soon calm down, gravity will help you out there.

Thanks Paul, much appreciated! My hair is actually pretty similar to Dimitri's who posted earlier. As I get more length, it tends to get a little wavy. It just seems as though it grows in little spurts however haha! Its like it looks the same for a month or 2, then BAM, 2 inches will appear outta nowhere! Experienced pretty much the same thing the first time I grew it out. I'm excited though as I was washing my hair the other day and realized that I can finally see my own bangs! Milestone 1, check!

JayKuz, it is you and you only who have right to shape your hair in the manner you see fit. As long as your way of sporting your hair or behaving does not concretely harm others, then they are to shut up and leave you alone.
I understand you for the impatience issue though. My hair is a bit below shoulders and I want it mid-back. It will take an a$$load of time and energy! >:-(
Thanks for the encouragement Nikola. You know, the comments & what not really don't bother me. Back when I first grew it out many yrs ago they did, but the comments I get now and the ppl I get them from, I know its just all in good fun. To be honest, some of them are pretty funny haha. What DOES bother me however is this; my first attempt at re-growing was about 2 yrs ago. I made it 5 months and chopped it all off. If I had the mindset then as I do now and just stuck with it, I would have damn good length right now! Spilled milk though I suppose.

Hi JayKuz,
No worries, "looking like a douche" is part of earning the honor of eventually becoming a genuine longhair -- we've all been there, every one of us!!!
In fact, in my opinion, i STILL look quite a bit like a douche; just a better-looking one than when I had short hair! It's all a matter of our own self-perception. What you are going through right now is frequently referred to here as "the awkward stage"... when it's too long to look like it's former "normal" anymore; but too short still to be able to tie back into a tail.
Just hang in there, keep coming back here for support, and whatever you do, DON'T CUT!!!!
Oh! And before I forget to also say it: Welcome to MLHH!!!

Thanks for the support and encouragement Ken! You know, I don't really remember what the "awkward stage" was like the first time I grew it out. It was so long ago. I do remember this though...now like I said, I was able to tie it back and have 9-12 inches of a tail, BUT, no matter how long it was, to me, it wasn't long! Haha. I was in high school, so ppl I haven't seen since I was a child (well, a younger one haha) would say, "wow, your hair is so long", but it never felt long to me! I thought this was just me, but I found a lot of my friends with long hair felt the same way about their hair! Funniest thing. I wonder if this is something all longhairs experience
Just stick with it. Before you know it, you'll be past the awkward stage and will have to start worrying about things like tangles, what type of hair products to use, and what to do about split ends.
There is no worry-free stage. :)
Welcome to the community.
We'll see you around then.
