Digging around on the net this afternoon listening to music and i have to say ive came across some of the most interesting long haired musicians. Band called apocalyptica. Wondering if anyone else has heard of them. They play cellos instead of guitars but it sounds bad ass. They all over youtube.
I have heard of them, but I had nearly forgotten (I tend to discover, forget, and rediscover bands every few months.) Thanks for reminding me! Apocalyptica is awesome! I wonder if there is a similar band with violas... They're my favorite bowed instrument.

Hehe yeah i constantly diggin for new tunes. =p Thought they were pretty original.
Yes indeed I know of them and seem then live and yet another great example of good metal music coming out of Finland. It's certainly has a twist with Cello's and good to listen to.
Cheers,

I like them. It's rare to find songs where classical string instruments are given a dose of modern technology. They have a good style. The one they did with Three Days Grace is cool because they actuate the bow in a way to mimic a guitar strum. I would love to see them in concert someday.
Yes Apocalyptica are awesome!!!! and they have great hair =)
First time i heard from them was in -97. i was 12 and my older brother got the CD "apocalyptica - plays metallica by four cellos"
Back then they did´t have a drummer so it was a bit hard to listen to.
Since 2003 they have their own drummer. It makes the songs allot heavier and more easy-listenable.
I´ve seen them live at Sweden Rock Festival 2008 (i am from Sweden)
It was an awesome moment. Espacially after the slower songs like half the audience was in tears. Cellos are an emotional instrument.
Glad to hear you have found them!
All the best!

Yeah glad i came across em myself. There pretty awesome.
Apocalyptica are wicked!
Making Cellos into electric guitars is pretty awesome!
The path, is one of my favorite songs actually. I like it when they do it with or without the vocalist. Sandra Nasic played for a band called the Guano Apes from poland and she rules. The chose her to sing the song.
Overall, a fine bunch of long haired people...who are creative, artistic, and really and truly do an amazing thing.
I suggest anyone who does not know them, listen ot give a go, because if you like classical or metal there is something in it for you.
Thanks for posting this.
Excellent find Tomc1980!

I saw then with John B and they are very good live. They
do the most interesting stuff with Cellos. I remember they did
a rendition of the little drummer boy. As a kid and even now I found that Christmas tune most annoying but they did a good job
and I listened all the way through.

I've never heard of Apocalyptica, but I have noticed an agonizingly slow trend of classical and rock music mergers, the most widely known being the Transsiberian Orchestra.
The most recent one I've discovered is an all-female string quartet called Bond. They're out of this world, and not to bad to look at either. ;)
I just saw TSO about a couple of weeks ago. Very good in concert. Many of the guys in the band still sport the back-combed hair made famous in the 80s. We're definitely going back to see them again. Word is that they're going to do a spring tour with some new non-Christmas music. We're hoping that they are faithful to their normal stops, including Albany.
