Hi all
Well, guess by now you all know the story. Here it is shared in my usual crazy impromptu style on You Tube for anyone interested. Normally I do not announce any videos here, but in this case thought some of you may like to see the "elderly Justin" in action. One take only on my vids. What you see is how it happened off-the-cuff.
Hope you all had a great weekend. :-)

I have to admit I was really, really shocked at the news of this, Justin. But I especially like the way you look at the situation, and handle it. You look at the glass half full, so to speak. It will take time to get back to where you were, but hey, you will get there again. Anyway, best of luck on growing you hair back, Justin.
Staying away from the cons at the salons,
Hegg
Hey Hegg
Great seeing you back here and hope all has been going well in your life. I appreciate very much the words above and you are and always have been such a decent gentleman with the greatest long hair. As to how I look at a glass is anyones guess. Perhaps it should be a "looking glass?" LOL :-)
My best to you Hegg

Salons! Salons!! Salons!!!
I've never had an experience as bad as yours, but salons and barber shops make me nervous too. Even with short hair, I have a long history of not being happy with the results many times. Maybe when I get to the "occasional trims to maintain goal length" part of my journey, I'll find a very trustworthy friend with a steady hand. Especially after hearing/seeing your experience, I'm very apprehensive about going back to the salon. Especially since I know the stylist I've used for the last few years isn't wild about long hair on men.
--D
With little exception, at least on this board, those that had a salon experience were not all that cheerful about the out-come. But some have done very well.
Hi Justin
I was partially surprised about this, partially, since you had part of your hair ripped off at the salon when you went for a wash but even then with medium-long hair, you still looked fairly good but maybe you had to do something about it. If I am sick or tired, I would not even go out, let alone go to a place to have someone take care of my hair. The word "demolish", I usually refer to houses or buildings being torn down so in this care, your hair had been "torn down". Here's something you can do, completely shave off the woman that "washed" your hair, and see how she likes it. Long, long before your experience, I had very little faith in salons anyway since they may make a mistake if I get a trim and get a good amount of my hair cut off.
Matthew
Hey Matthew
Wish I had had the luck of not having to have been out but this I did not. Darn! Hey.........want to come down here and shave the womans head? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. That would be my BEST video yet and everyone would cheer! :-)
bye for now Matthew
Justin~
Ive actually seen several of your videos before never realized you were here to. They did do a number on yer hair.
Well, they did the most, but the surgery wasn't exactly helpful after the salon episode. Also take into consideration the yearly Summer shedding period and that is a very large amount of hair loss.
Hi Justin,
That's a very well produced presentation you provided regarding the dangers of the salon experience. We need to drill this into the heads of anyone here that talks about going in for some trimmin' or whatnot. The way that conversation went at the salon I would have left immediately as the girl sounded like a complete ditz!I know you weren't feeling well so your guard was down in the situation. Anyway I know you'll get your hair back in no time my friend. Thanks for taking the time to tell your story.
Mark
Hi Mark
I rather think this will help drill this into the heads of many. Judging by comments I have seen, others that visit the channel are warning others so the word is getting out. Best of all, they could see me unlike ever before and the visual impact may help a whole lot of up and coming long hairs. Your comments as always are appreciated so much my friend.
Take care-
Justin~
Wow Justin,
What a "bad hair" year 2009 has been for you!
May 2010 and every year after be a much better experience - both hair and health wise.
- Oren
Hey Oren! :-)
Thanks so much and my best to you for a great new year and continued great hair and beard growth and all the wonderful looks they afford.
Justin~
Sorry to hear about your experience. Not cool.
But...on a positive note, you still look great...and the hair, from what I have seen looks rocker...meaning that when you gorw it back, you will have cool locks.
I know that wont replace the long hair...but silver linings are good
PS...watched all your vids. They inpsired me to grow mine
I am arkanix on youtube
Thanks arkanix :-)
I will be showing all what I can currently do with my hair in a vid later this month. All is NOT a 100% loss.
Justin~
Lessons learned by your experience can help many if they choose.
Thanks for the info you've been posting on this.
Kevin
Exactly Kevin. Your statement says it all and was my sole purpose of letting this experience be known. My way to try and help others know of the risks. Thank you ever so much.
Justin~
I've only been to a salon once, and that was when I was in the military with very short hair, per military standards. My usual barber was out of town and I needed a hair cut for a ceremony. I was forced to go to a salon, which was the only place open. The woman who cut my hair that day screwed it up so bad I swore I would never go to a salon again. If they can't get short hair right, how could they possibly treat long hair properly?
Alas, we here of these things all too often. I KNOW there are good stylists out there.........but it is almost as if they are out-numbered by the bad.
Hi Justin,
I'm enjoying catching up w/ seeing your many wonderful videos, now that I can finally watch things on YouTube; but I don't tend to think of this particular vid as one of the "happier" ones...
Justin, I'm going to be very blunt here: why in the heck did you stay and continue to risk letting that woman at the salon even TOUCH your hair, when she made it quite clear from the very get-go that she felt long hair was "not in style", and even "needed cutting" (or something like that)??? That would be like me taking one of my cats to a veterinarian who only loves dogs, risking the health and well-being of any of my furry felines after hearing a comment like, "all cats need to be put to sleep!!"
I realize that you weren't feeling well that day, and had already walked a long distance before arriving at "Le Salon du Hair Idiots"; but I think that woman gave you a VERY clear warning of what she was about to do if you stayed inside her shop... yet, you stayed and risked your mane, anyway?
I'd rather have left my hair dirty, greasy, and grossly in need of washing for another month or maybe even 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 than to let someone who said words like that lay their hands on me.
I'd willingly cut my hair if I had to face the fact that I could no longer take care of it myself, if due to long-term illness or incapacitation of some kind. But, if there's any chance/hope whatsoever of the illness or debilitating condition being at least somewhat "temporary" -- and/or if I knew I could get a supportive care-taker to maybe help me in keeping up w/ long hair maintenance -- then I'd look immediately for another salon to go to for "washing"...
This story really outrages me!!!!!!!
- Ken
Hi Ken-
Here is everything that was going on with me when I entered that Salon that I was hardly going to tell and meow about to any audience not have even brought-up here. But since you wonder, here it is:
1. Exhausted like you wouldn't believe.
2. Diabetic Condition (Blood Sugar) was off and I was without insulin help. I Felt ready to pass-out and from a machine they had I got a candy bar and quickly ate 1/2 of it to counter the blood sugar level. When this happens the feeling is terrible and causes one to shake alot until the sugar level is in the "safe" level again. At that point I was quite weak and was in hopes that I would not faint which can happen with this condition, or worse........complications like Stroke, Heart Attack or Coma are able to sneek in. Everyone I think knows that living with Diabetes is like living on a time-bomb.
3. When in this condition, the thinking process is not as acute as it would have been otherwise.
4. After I got her to realize that no cuting was to be done I merely let her wash it. In the shape I was in at the time, there was no way to know that she would have been stupid enough to get a simple washing incorrect.
So, there it all is........

Justin~
Hi Justin,
WOW, I'd say that this is even more reason for you to pursue some sort of action against that salon then... (Please read my "PS" that I just included in my original reply)... The fact that you were that sick, she either should have called for medical help for you, or done ONLY what you had asked her to do, -- all the more proof that this woman is an IDIOT, and should no longer be allowed to operate a business with her having a pair of scissors in her hand!
- Ken
Hi Justin,
A couple more comments re. your salon experience for you to consider...
I narrated your story to Even, my partner, who at one time many years ago was taking courses in Cosmetology when he still lived down in the LA area. According to him, it sounds like that woman could easily have her license taken away, possibly even the Salon's license to even continue operating, -- although possibly the state of California is much stricter w/ its rules and regulations on this issue than your state of Oregon.
I have friends who are hair stylists that are members of the dance community that I belong to; so, at some point I'll probably share your story with them soon. My guess is that they will be as shocked and outraged as I am, regardless of the fact that they just so happen to be short-haired themselves. I encourage you to pursue the matter further, legally, -- or at least to do whatever you can to cause them to close their doors and put them out of business. At the very minimum, that lady who cut off your hair when you had only asked for a washing should have her license be completely and permanently taken away.
- Ken
Hi Ken
I would really have liked to hanged the bitch. Alas however, it happened months ago and to persue would have just taken too much out of me and most likely never have gone anywhere. I hardly have the funds to get a lawsuit going over something like this. Besides, she NEVER DID ACTUALLY cut my hair. It would probably have ended-up a mess in front of some judge who for all I know would have a chip on his shoulder when it came to men with long hair and couldn't have cared less especially with much more important things on his slate. There were no sissors ever used! The "comb" is what demolished and ripped the hair to shreds. And, since then, now the surgery. What is a judge suppose to rule if it did get that far? Hardly feel like doing it today with an Echo-Cardiogram now schedualed for this Wed. at 8:15AM. I have no regrets however in making the vid and am happy I did for it may save many many other guys in the future.
Justin~
ps: I never mentioned the Diabetic condition nor not feeling well.........and had I, knowing the mentality of some of these salon artists(?) it would never have penetrated such a thick skull.
Wow! Sorry about your salon experience Justin! That's definitely a bummer. But you still have awesome hair that will grow back in no time.
This officially confirms my suspicions that all salons are part of a huge conspiracy to rid the world of long haired men. All salons must die! LOL!!
Anyways, good luck growing your hair back.
Luke.
P.S. Your youtube videos are great and have been very helpful for me in growing my hair.
Thank you Luke for the kind words. If anything, my experience will act as a good learning lesson to all growing out theirm hair.
Take care-
Justin~
Thanks for the reminder about not going to a salon.
I was thinking about getting my split ends trimmed but I rather walk around with split ends than with shorter hair.
Hey Vincent
Until that day, for YEARS I did my own trimming. Oh well, I was hardly in a position to know of the stupidity that was to befall myself.

Justin~
Hi Justin,
Thanks for doing a most informative video.
I think the morale of the story is to keep away from Salons that you don't know and not even know and do it when you have better health. As always only use a stylist you know and trust.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks John and truer words have never been spoken. Guys, Johns advice hits the nail on the head! Take heed of this.
All the best-
Justin~
Hi Justin!
Your video came out really good =)
You have a great personality that makes me smile! I´ve been a fan of your videos a while now. They are informative and a bit crazy too! Keep em comin!
I hope your health is doing well after surgery.
Wishing you all the best
Jim // jimho85
Hi Jim
Yeah........I was quite happy with the vid and actually when I watch it and see my imitation of the conversation between myself and the salon moron kinda tickles me and just makes me laugh. All is NOT lost. I have handled it fine, and most impostant AM enjoying a new look. It brings me back to happier years in the late 60's-early 70's and my hair can be made to look similar to the rock band looks of that day which I myself like alot. So, not all was lost luckily.
Justin~
ps: You will see a bunch of things I can come up with in the next vid. But, this might give the audience some ideas for themselves as they grow-out their hair. Sometimes a nightmare can act as a blessing in disguise.
hey Justin well said in the video. I do not trust most salons myself and only go to one I trust to cut my split ends every so often. You'll be back to long hair in no time and have my full support! :)
Thank you MarkS
Yes, at my age time goes fast, so really.......I am not all that worried.

Hi Justin!
I'm genuinely sorry to hear about your story but you seem to have a far more positive attitude than I could ever manage. Maybe some people think it's crazy but I know how meaningful one's hair can be (being a longhair myself, of course) and quite frankly it's inspiring to see someone like yourself take this in stride. So good on you, and I look forward to your re-growth updates, my friend.
Keep smiling!
Peter
So correct Peter. Might as well take a positive attitude. To do otherwise would eat one all up.
Thank you for writing.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
That's quite a sad story and I sympathize with your plight. All I can say is that you are blessed with youthful looks and hair and you will return to your former glorious longhair self quickly.
"Hair is like a fine silk blouse and should be treated as such"
Dr. Oz speaking on hair care. How true! It's amazing how many people, men and women think you need to just rip and tear though any and all snags! I'm the only one I trust with combing my hair. Even my wife will power brush her own hair (it's much shorter than mine!}
Maybe that why they all think that they need to trim all the time to get rid of the damage. It's because they have caused the damage!
Well I look forward to your new journey. Hopefully your health problem are in the past and that this will be a happy and healthy new year!
Bruce
Hi Bruce and thanks so much. So much here is just so true. But I am managing actually fine and with what I have to work with now am having alot of fun. So, all is not a total loss. It WAS good tio get the message out however to guys that may not be aware of Salons.
Hope you are having a nice evening.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
My apologies for the late reply (on the road right now), but you know how horrified I am at the terrible experience you went through. Thank you for sharing this video, which explains things so well. I am sure with your high quality hair that your new journey will go very well.
I have always had a fear of hairdressers, and what they might do to my own hair. Only people I know and trust would trim or comb mine, (Tammy recently trimmmed about 1 inch of mine)
Take care,
David
Hi David
Yes, the journey back is really not so much of a bother and what I have now equals what the rockers of the late60's-earlier 70's had. Besides, it IS kinda fun. Of course, had I known....I NEVER should have even had a salon wash my hair. But, water under the bridge.
Nice that Tammy could do the trim. No worries with her! :-)
Take care-
Justin~
