Hi all,
I'm relatively new to the site.. stopped cutting my hair in Aug. '09. So right now I'm a longhair wannabe... maybe 3 to 3 1/2".
Here the problem: I'm an avid swimmer, so as you can imagine the chlorine in the pool is murder on the hair, making it very dry. I have very thick and wavy hair. I have been using almond oil to help combat this, which I seem to really like. The chlorine has even lightened my dark brown hair to the point that I now look like I have highlights (fine by me). I have been using an anti-chlorine shampoo with matching conditioner by Sally's Beauty Supply called "Ion anti-chlorine swimmer's shampoo". I chose this because it is sulfate free. When I'm done washing and prior to conditioning, my hair is all matted on my scalp and impossible to finger comb at this point. The conditioner helps greatly.
I'm wondering if it is the shampoo or the chlorine?? I don't recall this happening prior to using this shampoo, however my hair was a little shorter then.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Kenny
Ion anit-chloring swimmer's shampoo
I wouldn't buy in to any claims that this is a special shampoo for swimmers. This formula just may be to harsh for your hair. I would just use what worked for you before.
Bruce
You're probably correct, I just thought being sulfate free it would be gentle and help remove some of the chlorine.
Thanks Bruce...
This should be easy:
1. Wear a bathing cap.
2. Use regular Shampoo and conditioner. (Aussie may work great for you.)
Thank you Justin for the advice. I guess a regular shampoo is the route to go, and maybe not worry so much about the chlorine.

Hi Kenny,
After reading the suggestions so far I would try using the swimmers cap like Justin suggested.I mean they must be made for a reason and possibly protecting the swimmers hair from chemicals is that reason. Also that product you provided the link to is fairly cheap so I might question any claims it has for being specifically for swimmers.I could be wrong but if you tried it and didn't like the results you have your answer.Anyway good luck with your hair journey and I'll be looking forward to your upcoming update pics:)

Hi Mark,
Thanks so much for the response. Yes, I agree with you and Justin regarding the swimming caps. I have tried them in the past and they are somewhat difficult to use... have trouble keeping them on my head and they seem rough on the hair when putting on and removing. I'm going to have to get use to using them to help protect the hair.
Peace Mark,
Kenny
