i've been growing my hair about 16 months or so (its about 8 or 9 inches long) and after dying it black at least 5 times (yes i made the mistake of perminant the first time) its extremely wirey. whenever i tie it up im left with a ball of frizz i have to mousse and spray into shape. the end result is bearable, but i still want to reach a point where i no longer have to beat it down with hair products every morning. does anyone have any ideas? or am i forever stuck in mousse and spray world?

I'd try some deep conditioners . . . just get some good conditioner (Aussie has some good stuff), apply some to your hair after a shampoo, then wrap your hair up in a plastic bag or saran wrap or foil, and heat under hot towels or hair dryer for 20 minutes or so. We did this in beauty school and sometimes it worked wonders, sometimes it just helped . . .
Oh, and if you have a Sally's beauty supply nearby, pick up some liquid protein (usually in the color or perm section) and mix it with the conditoner, 1 part protein to 10 parts conditioner. It's somewhat pricy, but depending on what's going on with your hair, it might help a lot. Cost about $7 for a 3 ounce bottle.
Then put some silicone oil on it . . . look for the cheapest bottle of a clear "Shine" type product, check the list of ingredients to see that it's got cyclomethicone, dimethicone, and maybe some phenyl trimethicone, and that's the right stuff. Some brands are sold for three times as much as the cheap stuff, and it's chemically identical. Clear, flows like 30 weight Pennzoil, a little dab will do you just fine. Actually, you might find it at the Dollar store really cheap--I found a 6 oz bottle for $3.50. Prety good.
Good luck,

just leave your hair alone for a month then go with black demi permanent hair dye, it's pretty good on your hair and it lasts longer than both permanent and semi permanent. As for stying your hair, if it's still 9 inches (by now it must be longer though unless you cut it) you should get hair slicking stuff and leave in conditioner for dried/damaged hair and frizz treatement (maybe serum) THAT CONTAINST NO ALCHOL lol like Fantasia frizz serum. Hair spray and moose are not a good idea esp. if you are going for the zanier do's. But if you are going for the Robert Smith look you should use texterizer(i have a feeling you wouldnt need that though lol) and if you use hairspray dont use the ozone damaging shit that comes in 35 oz bottles lol. Use the less drying/flaking stuff again, for dried and damaged hairand ewhen you wash your hair do conditioning therapy for dried/damaged hair.
