Hi Happily Hairy People,
I realize that talking about hair care products can be a real yawner for many of us old-timers here; but, in this case... drink a stiff cup of coffee and LISTEN UP (lol)!!
I've recently discovered some new hair care gunk that I'm beginning to like a whole lot. My long-time favorite shampoo & conditioner company happens to be "EO" (which apparently stands for "Essential Oil"), which used to be only available in Health Food stores and grocery stores like Whole Foods; but nowadays is also found in other places more and more, too (I think even at Trader Joe's). Avalon Organics is also another favorite of mine, similar in results for me to EO.
Anyway, I digress from my main title of "Hair Milk!"
Hair Milk is made by a company I've never heard of before until just recently, called "Carol's Daughter"... On the outside of the little plastic bottle, it says the following:
"HAIR MILK. A light solution for adding shine and frizz-free definition to natural curls."
They only list 3 ingredients, which are as follows:
Sweet Almond Oil
Apricot Kernel Oil and
Essential Oil of Lemongrass
It also says the following info as well:
"Paraben-free. No petroleum, mineral oil, or artificial color."
I also get a kick out of reading their directions, because they sound a bit "girlie" to me, especially the following: "Twist and twirl your curls as you apply to enhance their shape..."
OK, now for the important part (so, DRINK ANOTHER CUP OF COFFEE TO STAY AWAKE - lol!!):
I'm finding this Hair Milk product more and more to my liking as both a leave-in conditioner, and also replacing my need for applying any other beneficial oil onto my dry hair ends. I only apply this stuff onto the lower portion of my mane (I don't need it on or near my scalp, as my hair naturally gets greasy enough on its own); but it is working wonders on keeping my hair ends soft and moist-feeling -- and best of all, this stuff smells HEAVENLY!!!!! (It kind of reminds me of the exotic but subtle flavor of drinking a sweet Indian Yogurt Lassi Smoothie!)
Alright now, time for me to go back to bed (insert big YAWN here)... My apologies for forcing you all to drink so much coffee; but that's the only way I ever get through reading any of these long-winded hair care product posts myself (LOL)....
There's a few other new hair care products ("new" to me, at least) that I'm interested in writing about and sharing here; but I need to try them out more, first. My partner, for example, likes the "Ojon Hair" company products, which he recently bought from that TV stations that sells stuff in their all-day advertisements. I like their stuff, too; but it's hard for me to give up for even a brief moment my favorite EO shampoo & conditioners!
Happy Hair Milking!

Hey Ken,
I must say I so enjoy reading your hair oil/hair care product updates. They are informative and entertaining to boot. I'm currently at 5 months, so about 3 to 3 1/2 inches of hair. I have been using sweet almond oil & lots of conditioner when washing... thanks to previous advice from yourself. My hair even at this length seems to tangle badly after washing, maybe because it's thick and a little wavy, not sure.
I really need help in the "frizz-free" department, after washing sometimes my hair has a lot of static-electricity.
I think these are rather nice ingredients, can't wait to try it and enjoy the hopefully nice results and smell. Thanks so much for your informative and entertaining post!
Peace,
Kenny in Cleveland
You are most welcome, Kenny!
At your current length of only 3 1/2 inches, my advise would be to not apply too much of this Hair Milk stuff to your mane, and to apply it only well AFTER you are already out of the shower from your shampooing and conditioning ritual. Just a small amount is all I use (approximately the size of a dime or nickel, although yesterday I felt like being a bit more extravagent, the blob in my hand being about the size of a quarter); then I rub the Hair Milk between the palms of my hands, applying it then to my hair. The directions say that you can apply it either to dry or to damp hair; but I prefer to apply it to my mane when it is still damp.
I have a new digital camera that I bought in August but haven't used since then. Once I read all the directions to familiarize myself w/ its features, and also charge the batteries, I should take a pic of myself to show off the nice results after applying this Hair Milk stuff... I'm a bit of a procrastinator, though -- so, don't hold your breath, as it may take me until NEXT August to finally get around to it!
Take care, Kenny, and it's nice to know where you're from -- I was originally a Midwest boy myself, before I moved out to CA in '77. I grew up in Lake Bluff, IL -- a small town (actually the furthest North suburb of Chicago), with the better-known village of Lake Forest to the South, and the city of Waukegan to the North. The house I grew up in was about 5 blocks from Lake Michigan, where there is a 70-foot bluff above the beach... and in Illinois, a 70-foot bluff is considered to be a "HUGE" Wonder of Nature -- as probably you also well know, since much of Ohio is just as flat as that part of Illinois (LOL)!!
Happy Midwest Hair-farming!
Long Lox 4 ever,
Ken
