On MLK day, I went to see Avatar with my friend Megan. This 3 hour movie was my all time favorite, and I watched it in 3D at a regular movie theater (not IMAX).
Since I liked this movie so much, I actually wish to be a Na'vi person for part time if it is possible (and not just a Halloween costume). Looking at the Na'vi beings, they do indeed have waist-length hair, but inside the hair, they have nerves that connect to other beings or to animals that live on Pandora. No, I did not get the "Avatar blues". The 3D effects of this movie made it so real that some people rather live there instead of our world, and can't seem to get out of that world. Have any of you experienced that feeling?
Matthew
Just came back from the cinema.
Nice film, i want to go in their world, i'm going to make a long bread tomorow lol.
I saw Avatar back in December in 3d, I can't say I go to see movies much (only once every 2 or 3 months or so) but it was definitely the best movie I have ever seen. Maybe when my hair gets down to waist length (hopefully it will haha) I will make a nice thick braid and deck myself out in Na'vi like paint for halloween or something, sounds like it would be entertaining.
I saw it and yes it was a very good film very well written. I
don't normally go for the excessive computer generated flicks but this was very well done.
I do recommend it and I very rarely recommend films.
Kevin
I haven't seen it but I've heard enough about it that I want to.
I get that feeling w/o a movie though. Simpler world, less dependant on so much damn technology. That feeling is a huge influence on my hair and dreads too. I wanna as little bogged down with modern needs as I can be.
I thought Avatar was a brilliant movie. I liked the Na'vi people. We all should adapt their way of thinking, would sove a few problems this planet has.
(Sorry hit the wrong key on the first post)
Well I can honestly say rarely, and I mean rarely, do I go to the movies as nothing made today seems as creative as movies from long ago.Maybe I'd like to see this one but would need some arm twisting to go.Don't even know anyone who has seen it or wants to so I'd have to go it alone.I'll take your word, Matt, that its worth seeing.
Mark
Mark,
I'm twisting your arm :)

Oouuuuuuuuch, that hurts a bit!lol.Guess maybe I should go see this then.

it must be just that good:)

Hi Mark,
Perhaps I should be another one to twist your arm to go see this movie! Tammy and I saw it, in 3D, at the Imax, while I was visiting her in December, and we were totally blown away. We actually felt that we were there!
Take care,
David
Twisting....twisting......twisting.......
Go see it!
Kevin
Well with the three of you trying to twist my arm off it looks like I'll be seeing it tomorrow with one of my cousins and her family. They wanted to see it too but haven't gotten around to it yet so the timing was good.I'll have to let you all know what I thought of it.I'm sure I'll like it based on whats been said here:)
Mark
Loved the film ... and like Kevin C., I too do not usually like heavily computer generated movies, but this one was much different. Saw it in 3-D and was a bit annoyed going in that the theatre was charging an additional $3.50 for the 3-D presentation, but the movie was so good that I am thinking of seeing it again. The 3-D was the best I had seen also, no ghosts or distortions.

A man with a buzz automatically converts to a Native with waist long hair :P. Thats one less grotesque movie theyll think about adding to their dreaded movie section...
Either ways the movie was really great not that original its like cowboys/Spaniards and amerindians taken to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL.
I really enjoyed it too. The effects are great. The plot's not hugely complicated, but that allows you just relax and enjoy the film without having to figure out twists and subplots. I'd recommend it to anyone. There's a great feel-good factor to it as well.
I heard a few comments about my braid on the way out too. Just as well I'm blond or people might have thought it was an attempt to look like a Na'vi!
I thought it was a great movie as well. Though the film was long, I never grew bored. There were some great themes in the movie that I appreciated, such as environmentalism, conservation, respect for diverse cultures, and the pitfalls of colonialism. What amazed me was how realistic the CGI looked and how James Cameron was able to totally pull the viewer into the story line. By the end, it was the Na'vi who I wished to triumph over the puny and greedy humans. However, when Jake showed up having tamed the bird that only five Na'vi before had ever ridden, it illustrated how human nature can rise to the occasion and do the right thing even if it means going against his one's own kind. I even ordered the book that goes along with the film the other day: Avatar: A Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of Pandora. It goes into further detail on the planet itself. Overall, the movie makes a viewer think about ecological issues, and today, that cannot be a bad thing.

I have ordered the same book, as well as a scrapbook of Avatar. I also downloaded the soundtrack of the movie.

I went tonight to see Avatar in 3D on a recommendation from a friend. Now the cinemas are a bit quieter. Wow what a film and 3 hours just flew by and I saw it.
The word "awesome" don't even touch it...rofl!
Cheers,
