Enjoy my informative picture =)
Noticed a problem with my hair and dont know what to do??
I have this "head-hair" in front of ears under my glasses (see pic) right before my sideburns-hair starts. My glasses cant hold this bit back... and It seems to grow slower than the rest of my hair.
Should i try to grow the "head-hair" out or trim it down to sideburn length???
My hair is shoulder lenght in the back and lots of layers right now. Think young Shaun Cassidy...
Thanks for help

I used to trim that area, but in the end I decided to just let it grow, and it was the right decision. It may grow slowly but it grows, and in the end you'll forget about that. It only takes time, but as long hair growers we are used to cope with time and patience!
Cheers

That hair growth pattern is normal. Scalp hair and beard hair changes at the middle of the ear, not at the top or bottom. If you look at how women's hair grows, since they don't have beard hair, you can see where their scalp hair stops. It is in the middle of the ear.
Since your beard hair consists only of small sideburns, just be glad on you both kinds of hair look similar. If your beard hair were bright white and very kinky, for example, it would really stand out! You'd have two puffballs next to your ears.
You probably don't want it to stand out, so I'd think you'd want to trim the two kinds of your hair next to your ears to be similar. This may not mean they will be trimmed to the same length, especially if one is thicker, curlier, or grows straight out more than the other. When I had a shorter beard, I'd always trim the scalp hair by my ears to be a bit longer than my beard hairs, because my scalp hair there laid down more and the strands of it were thinner. This made the two LOOK LIKE they were the same length. (Now that I have a terminal length beard and mane, of course I don't trim any hair on my head at all - well except a few that grow out of my ears and in my nose. [wink])

Trim then heavily - sideburns should be kept tody - they look awful if wild and unkempt. Length down the ear is optional.
I have the same issue minus the glasses. I would let it grow, but the hair is a completely different texture from my head hair. It would have to get to be about eight inches long before it stopped sticking straight out to the sides.
Man, I haven't postedin _way_ too long . . . Anyways, I too much enjoy the awesomeness that is long sideburns and I do trim a bit. What I find the easiest is to grab my electric razer and flip-out that precision portion. Then I try to grab the hairs that tickle me/hang too low for sideburns and pull them away from my head. Then using this razor config I zip 'em off. Quick and easy for a University student who has no time for anything, sadly even MLHH at times!

I just wanted to say that I love Dinosaurs, and that I appreciate your enjoyment of little comical things, "Speaking of 'burns, excellent".. Very nice, my friend. I had to let you know that it didn't go unnocticed.. :D

It's your choice, but the first inch or so of your sideburns grow in texture more like head hair, but not so long - mine grow to about 5 or 6 inches maximum over several years, and are then long enough to go behind your ears if you want. The rest of the sideburns are more like beard hair, coarser and grow to about the same length but look different. I find my sideburns get very uncomfortable at times, and although I have in the past had them long enough to tie with a small ponytail band, I tend to trim them occasionally just for comfort.
So, you can grow them, but the awkward stage is longer than for head hair.
Trim.
I wizz mine down to a number 2, and no doubt they would be crying in the aisles on beard board!

I trimmed them today and I´m pleased with the result =)
